I think I have permanent iPad fatigue, lol. There's no place for it in my life because it's just too limited in what it can do. I do admit it's a cool device to have when watching videos and that sort of thing. But, that's just a small fraction of my total computing time. And I'm actually finding that my iPhone suits that purpose just fine.

Not really, I use my iPad quite a lot on a daily basis. I prefer to use a desktop for typing though. Only thing I get fatigue from is holding the iPad sometimes for extensive periods of time.

I love both devices, but the iPad experience is much more fatiguing to me. I use ios7 and have turned off parallax and lowered the brightness b ut it only helps a little.

I actually like the parallax better on the iPad than the iPhone, but I do disabled it. It's nice until the novelty wears off, then it becomes distracting.

However, I'm surprised by how well iOS 7 runs on a 3rd gen iPad.

When I first got my iPad 3 I used it nearly exclusively for a few weeks, however since then I now use it hardly at all.

It's turned into a Netflix before bed type of device now and having an iPhone 5 the iPad 3 (especially with iOS 7) just seems so slow and sluggish to do anything.

Then the new 2013 MacBook Air with ridiculous battery life has spoiled my again being much smaller and lightweight than my old 15" pro making that the device I use 98% of the time.

Wow! Those are really some interesting arguments, I think one of my main problems with the iPad was traveling since I always took both devices with me (which makes your luggage heavier) and yeah on a plane I'll rather use the iPad mainly because of it's battery life but it's extra weight to carry. I travel across the ocean twice a year and I tend to stay more than a month each time, so I can't just leave my laptop.

I could totally see myself in an iMac + iPad environment, and I might do that in a far future since I recently built a high end Desktop PC. I was one of the first ones to have an iPad in my social circle, I got the first generation one a few months after it came out and I rapidly lost interest in it after the iOS4 update made it slower than my iPhone, making it even more redundant. It became old really quickly for me. I might want an iPad 5 if it seems promissing though. As I said, I really miss having a lightweight media device.

Same boat as you. I have an ipad and a high end gaming desktop. Pretty fun combo especially the ipad can be used as a second screen in battlefield 4.

I bet the iPad Air fixed much of the weight issues many of you had.

Office for iPad has helped to boost my iPad's usage, but I still go back to my MacBook after some time.

However, I never take my Mac to school anymore. The iPad is more than capable for on-the-go use and beats my 15" Macbook.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if I'm weird or not...

I have a 3rd generation iPad and love it, but after extensive use or after an hour or two of web browsing I kind of get fatigued with the experience and go back to my old reliable MacBook Pro.

Does this happen to you? I can't explain it, but I just fatigued...

But I want to note that I am grateful that I have it, I never want to come off as ungrateful for what I have.

Yep. It sure can't compare to my 17" anti glare screen.

It is somewhat redundant to own a MacBook (especially an Air) AND an iPad.
True, but depends on your usage. I don't own an Air, but I need the touch screen for a lot of things, mainly note-taking.

I would remain glued to my iPad, but I hate using Safari without Adblock and I hate using any other browser.

Nah I haven't been using my MacBook at all lately apart from work. I have my iPad mini in my hands for hours and I never get tired of it. It's going to sound weird but in some ways I prefer typing on my iPad in portrait mode with my thumbs even though I'm fast on a normal keyboard. Granted I'm way faster now than I was when I first got it. It was the main thing that kept me from loving the iPad and I'm glad I managed to overcome it.

Nope, but then I use my MBP for many tasks that it does well, and I use the iPad for tasks that it does well, like reading and some surfing.

Never. I literally spend hours browsing the web, checking email, reading articles, tweeting and watching stuff.

Now that I have embraced Office and OneNote I feel far less of that fatigue.

iOS both helped and hurt this though. I like the new design (mostly), but my iPad 3 is far less smooth than it used to be, which gets annoying. I would love to get the iPad Air 2, but I feel bad upgrading a device that still technically works.

Just the opposite for me as I have not used my laptop for cruising the Internet after getting my first iPad.

I do admit that I seldom use my iPads more than 2-3 hours at the most each time. You really need to get away for a while after 2 or so hours but then I work for a liviing!

I also get fatigued when using the full sized iPad. I prefer using the iPad to read books and PDFs and I mainly use my 15 in. MBP for watching videos and browsing the web. I never really played any games since it was pretty awkward to hold. I recently got the iPad Mini with Retina Display and it makes the perfect companion to my MBP. I find that I actually use the iPad more and usually prefer it to my MBP when I go out. I think it's redundant to own both the 15 in. MBP and the full sized iPad.

Too many ads have started showing up in ipad safari browser

Lately im thinking about going back to using my laptop simply because too many ads appear in the ipad safari browser now compared to "before".

I do not think it is Safari's fault, I get more and more ads.

WORST is when you hit the "X" to ge rid of them, most of the time now it activates the ads! I also hate ads that start playing when you open a page on the Internet. Some of these you can not stop and all you can do is turn down the volume.

The news suppliers are all trying to make us but a subscription of which I do not want to do. Looking at their ads should be good enough!

Lol can you blame them? How do expect them to make money by you just "looking at their ads"? Think about it if you were trying to run a business. Do you think you would be successful with people just "looking" at your product or buying it?

I do not blame them a bit, I am also in business.

I do find it deceiving when a box pops up and there is plainly an "X" to make it go away but when you click it, it actually opens up the ad!

Understandable. The X's are getting very small to a point that it's almost guaranteed that the ad will pop up no matter how careful you are. This is why I don't mind paying for certain things. My CNBC app on my iPad gives me a headache with this. Rather than charging for the App they would prefer to annoy me with ads popping up each time I check my stock portfolio or watch any videos. I would've easily paid at least $5-$10 for the app just to be rid of the ads, but no, they don't give that option as an in-app purchase which sucks.

Brightness too high! We've done extensive testing with this. Drop your brightness to just bright enough. Your eyes will adapt, then lower it a bit more. Indoors my iPad is never over 50% and most often at 30%ish.

Sorry to revive to an older post, but I wanted to add some info.

I recently got a Retina MacBook Pro as a replacement for my 2011 version. While I was Mac-less I used my iPad exclusively and now that I have a retina based Mac I have made the following observations.

One of the main reasons I used my iPad was for the Retina display. Now that the Mac has an even better looking display that reason is no longer valid. (I tend to hold my iPad closer to my eyes than the Retina display allows, thus I do see some pixels. On my Mac however, I work sufficiently far back to appreciate a true retina display.

Second: the iPad is a far more intimate experience. I would never give up my Mac, and my time without it only reinforced that, but there is a lot to be said about an all-in-one slate design. I feel like it is more durable, plus it is far easier to use on the couch, in the car, in an office, etc.. And now that I have Office for iPad I find that I prefer to bring a good keyboard and my iPad to school. Granted, this creates a notebook type experience, but the ability to pull the tablet away and certain iOS apps make it different.

The iPad definitely is a luxury and I guess I still feel the need to justify it, but it really is a nice addition to my workflow. I am using my Mac more now (because of that amazing display), but I still love my iPad. What really made the iPad significant was NOT being a full computer. It is still easier to pick up and start using an iPad than it is to wake up and used a full computer, but this advantage is also its biggest weakness. But I really enjoyed reading the feedback in this thread.
