I've learned to deal with the headaches.:(

I've found myself holding the computer close to my face while reading to help eliminate the glare so i can read what's on the screen.

Here's my take.

Glossy is the bling of today. It's exciting. Images seem vibrant. It's fun.

However, for some (or maybe many) after the newness wears off, the reality of glossy becomes apparent and there is buyer's remorse.

It can still be annoying

I have a new glassy iMac 24" (not a MBP, but same issue) that becomes very difficult to use in the morning because of the light coming in through the window on the other side of the room. Other times of the day it's fine for the most part. But in the morning, I have to sit at my desk and angle my iMac and sit all cock-eyed at my desk. I guess they expect us to completely re-arrange the furniture in our house in order to use our glassy screens.

I have a matte MBP and especially prefer matte on a laptop that is used in varying lighting conditions...it drives me crazy that :apple: is forcing this on us still. Hopefully soon we'll be able to build Hackintosh laptops just to have another choice, although I really do like every other part of the uMBP. This isn't like the ExpressCard slot where according to Apple it's in the single digit percentage of people that used it; I believe I saw that something like 40% of Apple users prefer matte screens in a survey somewhere.

I honestly love the glossy screen much more than matte screen on my previous MBP.

It all depends on the person.

I agree with this. I love the glossy screen, and always have. Makes the colours look nice and rich compared to matte. Just my opinion.

It's amazing to me that this is such an issue for so many.

I just received my refurb 2.53GHz MBP and didn't even for a moment think about or notice the "glassiness" of the glassy screen...it's absolutely NO PROBLEM whatsoever.

My old one has a matte screen so I thought I would hate the glossy screen on the MBP but surprisingly I don't - I love it in fact. It's so much brighter and the colors look amazing

I've half gotten used to the glossy - I love the colours and depth, but I'd take a matte screen any day.

The reflections are just too annoying.

this is my first macbook or laptop. my desktop is a samsung monitor which is matte.

i still havent gotten used to it but the colors do seem more vibrant

I was skeptical about glossy at first, then I got an alu iMac and realized my concerns were largely unwarranted. A few days ago I bought a unibody MBP 17" w/ glossy and I still say the glare isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned. Under most circumstances the reflections aren't visible, and when they are, it isn't a problem. Having said that... while I appreciate the vibrance of the colors on this insanely bright screen, the glossy results in a subtle smear effect that bugs me a bit. It's bright and colorful, but not perfectly sharp, it lacks that ink-on-paper effect of a high quality matte screen.

Before buying my 15" uMBP a few months ago, I had used a nice matte LCD screen on my old Windows PC. After using the glossy uMBP for awhile, I'd hate to go back to the matte.

I specifically chose the glossy screen on my earlier MacBook Pro and welcomed the "glass" glossy screen on my new 15". It's superior for the prosumer (e.g. video watching, gaming, etc) market.

The only people who really love matte are those in graphics/advertising/publishing, and they had the same (misguided) love for CRTs for many years.

Jump on the bandwagon. You'll like what you see. :)

I just sold my black mac and got the new glass 13 incher and honestly, I have no preference. It does look better than the matte, however.

I always find these threads useless. Everyone has different opinions... so the original question never gets answered. In fact, there was no original question. The OP should just go look at both screens and decide.

The question was in the thread title. It's the part followed by a question mark.

Yes, it's subjective, but I've found everyone's responses quite helpful. If you don't like the thread, feel free to move on to others.

You get used to ............ everything.

That 50" plasma doesn't look that big anymore. The macbook screen is not as bad as I once thought.

It's only when you start COMPARING things do you actually notice a difference, and even then they're miniscule and inane differences in the overall scheme of things.

My advice, buy whatever you can afford, whatever that means and be happy with it.

I had a matte display G4 for 4.5 years and got my 15 MBP yesterday and I could not be happier with the glossy screen.

Yes, if there is some bright light in front of you and you are looking at a black screen or darker images, yes, you will see a reflection. But that is a small price to pay for how much clearer, sharper and more vivid everything looks.

Actually, I've had a glossy screen for the last 5 years and have no intention of going matte in the future.

Different preferences for different people. Quite simple, really.

it does get reflections inside in places such as librarys which do get annoying sometimes, but a quick tilt and brightness boost usually correct this. as for outside use, on a bright sunny day you're screwed no matter what you have. so far, my ipod touch is the only device who's screen can be seen when outside just because of the sheer brightness levels of the thing!

I live in Alaska: the land of the midnight sun. I love my new glassy MBP. The LED backlight is plenty bright enough for me.

I love my glossy screen. I have 3 17" MBP's now. My 1st one was glossy, then I let the message board opinions sway me into buying one that was matte......boring!

I am a photographer and am always working in great light, so it is perfect for what I use a Mac for.....photos......video......etc.

Iv'e had them both.....glossy was my choice to go back to!
