My phone is obviously jailbroken, but I like organizing my apps with a mix of folders and most used apps...

Well I finally got an iPhone (5s) a couple weeks ago and since iOS 7 is available, I'd like to see how people are organizing their apps (probably not different than before, but I still need some inspiration!).

I've tried a few different ways, but I'm never truly satisfied by the arrangement. For instance, I don't make too many calls, so I don't put my phone app on the dock. But then where is a logical place for me to place it on the screen? Seems kinda small, but maybe others have a better way.

Edit: Whoops. Forgot that this is in the iOS 6 thread. I wonder if I can get that changed...

I have several pages -- the home page has the most-used apps in alphabetical order, then the next page is Games, again in alphabetical order, then Books/Reading/Reference, one more in alphabetical order, then Photography, then Music/Entertainment.....the last page is folders in which I've collected apps I don't really use that much but want to be able to have available anyway. Again, everything is in alphabetical order.....

ETA: I didn't notice, either, that this was in a thread about iOS 6!!! Well, the same setup applies to iOS 7 anyway, and was that way in iOS 6, too. I'm nothing but consistent!

I've heard of a few people who do this. Personally, I would go crazy with alphabetical order :p

I like to have certain apps in their "default" locations, like having calendar at the top-left corner; I always look up there to see the current date. Don't you usually look at the app icons and not the app names, though?

Mine are sorted by types, form & function, colour coordination and recreation

Main - Web - Misc Applications - Games

Apps positioned in each screen: most used for one thumb reach and colouring blending when they sit side by side.

The dock is for most used communication apps only.

I should have also mentioned that I'm a librarian......so organization by hierarchy and alphabetization comes naturally to me! :)

I do indeed look at the icons rather than the names of the apps, but still want them categorized and in alphabetical order within that category. I also keep the dock arranged in a certain way, too, both on my Macs and on my iOS devices so that the Settings (or System Preferences) app is always to the far right, mail to the far left with Safari next to it.....other stuff in between.

I'm not big on folders. I treat each screen like a folder.
Page 1-Apps I use the most
Page 2-Reading (Kindle, iBooks, GoComics, etc)
Page 3-News and Social Media
Page 4-Entertainment and Shopping (Redbox, Fandango, Trailers, Ebay, Apple Store, CVS, etc)
Page 5-Games
Page 6-Utilities

Dock (Phone, Messages, email, Safari)

My kids LOVE putting all their apps in folders on the main page. It drives me crazy. Maybe I just haven't given it a chance...

I color organize all my apps and category (i.e. amazon and ebay would be on the same page but different rows with other similar colored apps. (totally no intended racism) lol.:p

Folders are stupid.

Click to enter a folder, click again to launch app, hit the home button to exit, hit home button again to exit folders and then power off.

I have about 6 or 7 home screens, each for different categories.

  • The first one is the default Apple stuff like Messages, FaceTime, Clock, Game Centre, App Store and Settings.
  • The second is work-related stuff. The iWork apps, Mail and Prompt (an awesome SSH app).
  • The third one is for reading and social stuff. iBooks, iTunes U, Kindle and Newsstand at the top. Social apps like Facebook, Twitter and Skype below.
  • Next it's a Music home screen. Music, Spotify, TuneIn Radio, Podcasts and so on (including GarageBand).
  • Next, it's video. Videos, Infuse, YouTube, Netflix, iPlayer, Crackle and iMovie.
  • Photography comes next. Camera, Photos, Photo Booth, iPhoto, Paper and a QR code reader.
  • The last screen is for games. Except on my 64GB iPod touch, where I've got about 4 screens of games.
