You can print with any printer shared by the Airport Extreme.

Please explain. I have 2 printers connected via my AEBS (using USB sharing). Neither of them work with my iPad.

Do I need to buy Printopia? I was under the impression that the AirPrint apps all needed a Mac/PC to be on and enabled for printer sharing to work. Unfortuneatly, my G3 iBook can't run OS X 10.5, so Printopia won't work if a computer is needed.

How? I have my Canon all in one connected that way and it doesn't show up on my iPad.

I have a canon 6120 i think and i don't have any software like printopia or any hacks and my ipad detects the printer but only when the mac is on... They are all on the same wifi network and my router is not a airport... If i shut down the mac it won't detect it... Canon have a app to print pictures but that's all... No docs or pdf etc...

Oh... So am I lucky or ..?

I got an HP Laser Printer with model number sth like P1505, which does not support any network connections. I plugged it to my AEBS, and have it shared via Bonjour using the Airport Utility on my Mac, and then boom, my iPhone / iPad (and of course my Mac) recognise it and I can print through it.

I am not sure if there is anything to do with my printer or the AEBS
(I have not tested on a PC yet.)

The problem i have is i can't print from my iphone 4... It won't detect my printer but on the ipad it works it detects it right away... Im on 4.3 on both devices they all are on the same network and i got the latest itunes latest leopard update... What am i doing wrong?

I'm still using the print enabling hack to share my printer from my iMac (which is always on) and it works great - it wasn't affected by the update to 10.6.7 either
Same here, except my mac is my macbook pro broadcasting my wifi network in my dorm room so I can use my ipod touch.

I'm a news junkie and recently bought Instapaper, it has changed everything in the few days I've had it.

I even share my brother printer with my ipod, I printed off several articles for my Iran class from the comfort of my bed.

Works well, but A.) it runs in the background on your Mac all the time, using some, if negligible resources. And B.) your Mac has to be on and awake.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

B is correct, but since SL wake on LAN makes it kind of a non-issue.

As for A, I'm pretty sure the hack just enables some setting in the OS that allows printer sharing. I just did a quick look of all my processes and there definitely isn't anything related to airprint running.

Edit: http://netputing.com/airprintactivator/

That says that it just makes a single line code change in the CUPS configuration. That means, if I'm correct in my thought process, that your understanding of A is mistaken.

Hope that clears things up, cheers.

All I know is it's pretty much useless with a closed MacBook, wake on LAN or not.

Yes i do. I have one of the HP photosmart plus printers (with a scanner on top) and can easily print documents, photos, whatever from my ipad. Very convenient :)

Have the hp photosmart b110 with air print - works really well selling really cheap on amazon only about £39. Had printopia working well on previous printer but iMac has to be on all the time for it to work. Convenience of AirPrint works for me.

I have the HP Officejet 8500 Premier E-AIO and it is awesome. The Ipad just finds the printer and works great.

I have a hp d110. I bought it back in November when they first came out best printer I ever had. It has the Eprint feature which is great it finds your iPad in a second. Very very easy. I think I paid 100 bucks. Just seen it at best buy 59 dollars. Very very very good deal

I have a mutlifunction inkjet with AirPrint, and use the hacktivation for my HP laser printer, but honestly I don't print very often from my iPad or iPhone. Of course, when I do, it's very convenient.

Just hacktivate and you'll be able to use whatever printer you have.

I have this one also. Easy to set up and prints great from my Ipad2. It was $69 at BB.

Picked up a HP printer from Best Buy a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly when I had my iPad and works great with my iPhone.

I picked up the HP Premium eAll-in-One in the post-Christmas sales. No complaints here, works like a treat with the iPhone, iPad and my iMac. Although the responsiveness of iPad/iPhone screen have spoilt me, as the touchscreen on the printer feels vastly sluggish by comparison.
Then I remember it's a printer with a touchscreen - which in itself is quite cool! My other half gets her daily sudoku fix off one of it's built in web apps.
Wish HP would ship decently filled cartridges though...

I have an HP M1536nf and never really thought about printing.

Just tried, and it just works. No configuration.

I just got this printer as well... My iPad isn't recognizing it at work. Does the iPad have to be on the same subnet as the printer? My iPad is on a 192.168.5.x and the printer is in a 192.168.8.x. The two subnets CAN talk to each other.

Thanks for any help :)

I enjoy our HP ePrint printer! The only way to go!

I decided I wanted a Air Print enabled printer last week. Best Buy had a HP Photosmart e-All in One on sale for $69. It works great with my Ipad and I love the email option since it enables me to print from anywhere, and from any device that can send an email. So now I can forward important emails from my phone or ipad and there printed out and waiting for me at home.

I have the HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer. It's AMAZING. I can print a substantial amount of papers easily because it's compatible with my iPhone/iPad. It also allows me to do two-sided printing on my iPhone/iPad, which it won't allow me to do from my MBP.

I consider it a major step up from my old Kodak printer. The ink dried up incredibly fast with it, & it was a money pit because of that. The ink is a little more expensive for the HP, but it easily lasts 3 or 4 times longer than the Kodak's.

5/5, for sure.
