All I know is it's pretty much useless with a closed MacBook, wake on LAN or not.

I have the Air Print hack enabled on my MacBook which is always closed (hooked to an external monitor) and often asleep and can print from either my iPhone or iPad with no problem.

Is your MB connected directly to the printer, or through an Airport Extreme?

Our MB is always on or asleep. If AirPrint Activator worked with a closed MB connected to a shared printer via Airport, I'd have a solution.

What hack are you using?

Eventually all new printers will be AirPrint compatible.
Until then, I'll continue to use the AirPrint hacks for both Mac and Windows.

One thing for sure, I would only buy a laser printer. Forget about inkjets!

My printer is connected to my Time Capsule via ethernet. As for the hack, I'm using this one:

AirPrint Activator

That's what I use. It enables the built-in AirPrint functionality for any printer shared through your Mac.

I enabled it manually before this nice little app was available and have even updated OS X 10.6 twice since then with no issues. Works great--nothing to add or change on your iOS device.

Wouldn't a AirPort Express solve this issue?
Just share the printer as a network printer?

Nope--read this. Just setting a printer up as a network printer isn't enough, unless you implement the previously mention AirPrint hack or use one of the various printing apps.

And even if that was an option, Airport Express costs $99, AirPrint hack is free.
