I'm in the SF BA, and I found that I get almost twice the battery life with 3G off...

I am a sales rep, and need the extra battery life, and don't notice a difference with any call quality or anything like that with the 3G turned off... I leave it off all the time.

I will flip it on to do some Safari surfing, but only briefly.

Has anyone else seen this double battery life with 3G off?

Does anyone else have their 3G "Searching..." for minutes on end??

I live 3 minutes from Cupertino, you would think I would have better 3G coverage eh?

I rarely turn of 3G, the only time I do is if the battery gets below about 30% and I'm not in need of faster internet. (Such as when I'm watching movies or listening to music)

I tend to leave 3G and WiFi on, as most have said, I will only turn them off if my battery drops down to about 20%.
3G coverage is fairly good where i am, so best make the most of it!

I leave it all on: 3G, Wi-Fi, and Location Services.

I rarely get below 50% battery with a normal day's worth of usage. That is, using the Internet during my breaks, lunch, in the evening, etc. plus a several phone calls totally maybe a hour a day.

I definitely found that since the 2.1 update and especially the 2.2 update, my iPhone's battery lasts a lot longer.

I leave it on all the time. Never really thought about turning it on and off.

To tell you the truth.. I don't really like the EDGE "E" icon in the status bar. I much prefer the "3G" up there.

I leave 3g on and rarely use wifi, I find wifi to only benefit me when I want to see a youtube video in better quality and if im at home i use my laptop.

If I'm home I have 3G off and WiFi on. If I'm out I have 3G on and WiFi off.

If you're at home and wifi is on, what's the point in turning 3G off? You're using the wifi and not the 3G so why should you turn it off if you're not using it?

All off especially now with SBSettings. If I need something I just turn it on quickly. My iPhone lasts 2 days+ (7 hours usage and the rest standby) before it needs to refill.

Why have 3G if your going to turn it off? Mines is on all the time. Thats why I bought it!

I laugh at some of these iPhone hacks people seem to love. So your phone is basically in airplane mode 24/7? Why go through all that trouble to make your battery last so long? I'm guessing you sleep once a day, why not charge your phone then? Who on earth needs a phone that lasts almost 3 days without a charge?

I've always got 3G on, and even have wi-fi on. Note that I don't have it continuously searching for wi-fi networks though, as that would REALLY drain the battery.

You laugh at a hack that lets you switch things on and off from within apps?

+1

3G and Wifi on all the time. Location services and bluetooth off.

Do you realize that Location Services does nothing to the battery unless you're using Maps or other location aware apps? Simply having it on is not bad.

I agree. Charge at night while you sleep. I get through a full day easily.

i only disable 3G when its not working (network issue, has only happened twice) or when my phone is about to die. I don't use wi-fi because 3G is plenty fast.

Ya I do! That's absurd! why would you need to be changing vital things that should be always on, on and off WITHIN different applications??? Seems pretty useless to me. Who cares if you can turn wifi off while still playing solitaire?! Big whoop. Why would you need to do something like that in the first place?

Back in the olden times... people were scared of charging. I just charge every night so I can wake up with a full battery and 100% battery in my iPhone.

No, airplane mode won't allow calls.

So suppose I am watching a movie or playing a game on my PC, why would I need 3G to be turned on (anyway in my house I have no 3G signal) or wifi to be on and "eating" my battery for no reason at all. As soon as I need to use the internet it will take me 2 seconds to enable wifi and use the internet.

Ergh to save battery??

The less charges the better for the battery... but it's not about battery life (not only for that) why should I have 3G/wifi on when I don't need it??
