Do you leave your Apple Watch on silent all the time?

i turned the sounds off immediately. hearing someone else’s watch make a sound is so annoying. something about the watch tone specifically drives me crazy. same with keyboard clicks.

Discussion of pros and cons of keeping your watch on silent aside, I believe OP can set the watch to automatically turn on silent mode at night and turn the sound back on in the morning, by creating automations in the Shortcut app.
If he uses sleep, it will already disables notifications on top of turning off the display and use a dimm watch-face. I do find it annoying though, the way it shows the unlock information, when you just want the time.

I actually had to check my watch and see that silent mode wasn't technically active, but I think I have so little enabled in the way of notifications on my watch that it practically never makes noise. (I almost always disable sounds for notifications on all devices, and I'll use Theater Mode to be safe if I'm in a quiet public place or something.)

I feel like clever ringtones have gone the way of the cute answering machine greeting messages. The novelty quickly wore off. There was always that person in the meeting or movie that forgot to silence their ringer.

I don’t have any sounds at all. The Watch vibration tells me when I have a call.

I leave it on silent and rely on vibrations. In the office I get notifications on my wrist with out my phone lighting up or any noise.

Before I owned an Apple Watch, I had a Pebble smartwatch for several years. One of my favorite things about the Pebble was the silent alarm that woke me up in the morning, and it didn't wake up my partner. (I wear the watch around the clock except to charge in the evening.)
So when I switched to an Apple watch, that was still one of the most important features. I just kept the sound off and never cared otherwise!

Because it is on my body, I find the use of haptics particularly useful as opposed to sound. I wear mine to bed for sleep tracking and the haptic alarm works well — I have Airplane Mode turned on overnight and then switch off during the day.

As per the title?

If you do leave your Apple Watch on silent, may I ask why?

I’m trying to get my Apple Watch alarm to only vibrate (no audible alarm) and from my research, it seems like the only way that will happen is if I put my watch in silent mode.

That got me thinking: I’m no doubt not going to remember to do that every night, so what about if I left it on silent permanently?

I can see benefits for this, but I can also see drawbacks. For instance, I know what each distinct alert sound, sounds like, so I don’t even have to look at my watch sometimes when it alerts me about something. If it was muted, I’d almost be forced to see what it’s trying to tell me.

So, do you leave your Apple Watch on silent? If so, please enlighten me why?

Many thanks.
There’s an automation for this now…so you wouldn’t have to remember to do it manually.

Yes because I have the vibration on instead. Noises from phones and watches irritate me.

Can you please advise?

Thank you.

Above article explains how to make automation to set the Watch to silent when you arrive/leave a place. Instead of using arrive/leave, use time.

It's London, by the way.

Wishing you a very merry Christmas.

Happy Christmas!

2 main reasons:
- not to disturb others
- so I can take the time to see who’s calling before deciding whether to answer immediately or call back later!

That’s interesting idea about Airplane Mode, do you find it saves the battery significantly. I might have to try that out myself.
