No never.

I was at a social church gathering two nights ago. This very, VERY, good looking girl came over smiling and said "OH wow is that the new one?". I frowned, and mumbled "uh.....yeah". She then looked at me curiously, and walked away.

Thank GOD she didn't ask to hold it.

Besides that one social encounter I don't know anyone else so i'm lucky.

I would gladly hand over the keys to my car and house to a very good looking girl. Haven't they taught you anything in high school ?

High school?

I'm 40

Anyway, i'm fine with my cat Harold :)

note: YES Harold is declawed. And he can touch my iPad when he wears his little booties :D (capacitive booties BTW)

Why would I let a stranger use my iPad? Family, Friends, and Co-Workers - That's it.

The creepy looking guy at the train station who needs to check his hotmail account - no chance.

Epic

Never ever! Well, unless it's well protected in cover-all case and with a screen protector.

Years ago I bought a new shiny Palm Tungsten T, let someone I knew try it out for a while, after that discovered a nice scratch on the front that wasn't there before. I then decided peer pressure wasn't worth having to live with damage that was not of my own doing!..

Yes, in fact I showed one of my friends from school my iPad and he played with it for only about 10 minutes and the next day he bought one for himself. He had never used one before, it was pretty exciting for him! He loves it.

Family (certain people only haha), and certain friends too, only when they're sitting. I don't think people realize they're holding a $500 piece of technology.

If there was an app (non-jailbroken) that password protected specific folders  I bet there would be a LOT more votes and a LOT less concern around letting strangers touch/feel/use our iPads.

Just sayin'....not that there's bad things on my iPad. :p

^ I doubt that. Why let a complete stranger hold an iPad in the first place? If they want to test one out for themselves, they can go to the nearest Apple store.

@OP I'm surprised a lot of stranggers ask you if they can see your iPad, even at Starbucks.

I've never had a stranger ask to touch my iPad, especially these days when there are millions of them around. Back less than a week after the launch of the iPad 1, I was using it on a plane and had literally about a dozen people stop in the aisle and check it out, including a stewardess - but I never let them hold it!

I'm not receiving the, omg what is that, can I see it? Lol it's more the 'can I check something on your Internet etc.' of course they could check their phone I suppose but it's much easier to check on iPad w large screen.

I'm always the person people bother to ask for directions etc

That's why I don't keep a smartphone, and carry my iPad in backpack at all times to only use it when I need it.

Geezus, people, it's just an electronic device! And a mass-produced one that you can just about buy in all of the major cities on our beautiful green planet.

To me, it's what's inside the device that matters the most. So, yes, strangers can touch my iPad to look at something I may want to show them. If they drop it accidentally, I'll just wipe the data and get a new iPad.

Can I show my friend your iPad over there, he wants to see what's in the difference new one? He is just around the corner.

Yep, sure. If you were actually sitting next to me, as was your friend, not a problem at all.

Just know that if you try to run off with it, I'll catch you and do something bad to you. :) But, again, that's more because of what's inside the iPad (which I could remotely wipe anyway) and not because of the iPad itself. The iPad is completely fungible.

it could be just me but i cringe in fear whenever my sister asks me if she can use my iPad. I literally want to shout out NO, but being the nice person I am, I say yes, and watch sadly as she plays with my iPad. I just don't like it, it feels weird.

I'm possessive, protective, and paranoid. Sad combination, lolz.

I'll let anyone I know use it or touch it if I'm showing them something or I'm not using it and they want to play with/use it. How petty of me would it be of me if I didn't?

Insurance on consumer electronics is a total waste of money. The insurance company expects to make money on you, by collecting (on average) more money in premiums than they pay out in claims.

If you are insuring a big-ticket item like a car or house, which would be financially devastating to most people if it were totaled, insurance is worth it. You know that, statistically, you will lose money on the insurance, but the cost is worth it to you because of the piece of mind it brings.

But if the loss of a $500 iPad will be financially devastating to you, you really shouldn't be buying one anyway. And if it's not going to be financially devastating, you shouldn't be wasting money on insurance that, statistically, you'll never get back.

If I was sat in Starbucks and the person next to me asked about my iPad because they have heard about the Retina display or whatever, I would pass it to them to check out (I did this last weekend and the guy just kind of prodded the screen a couple of times and handed it back because he said he didn't want to damage it).
Generally, people are very careful and it's not exactly the same as someone wanting to drive your Lamborghini.
At the end of the day it's just some glass and metal and sometimes accidents happen, C'est la vie!

I gotta tell you, all this touching stuff is beginning to get just a tad...um...strange!:rolleyes:

It is looking that way, sheesh, if a friend comes over and wants to use my iPad they are welcome....My friends know the basics of not smearing food or spilling beer on my stuff, just as they know I would behave properly in their homes...:)
