I thought I was strange until I read this thread!!

I agree with most of the points here, the only problem I find is that people aren't careful with other peoples things. I've seen family pick up laptops by their screens (i died a little inside lol) and it makes me skeptical of how they'll treat my stuff. Anytime I ask to see or use a family members stuff, I'm extremely careful with it as I know that's how I'd want them to be with my iPad.

I have had bad experiences in the past with letting friends use things and I think it's affected my views today. I let a friend borrow a monopoly pc game years and years ago and after a week I phoned to get it back. It was in his cousins closet without the cd case and scratched so bad it wasn't readable.

I also let a friend borrow a 2 way radio so we could try them out. 15 min later i go to get it, and there's a giant crack and tons of scratches on the bottom of it. Literally brand new handsets.

I let my mother use my iPad freely, she's not as careful as I am but I'm probably borderline OCD. She knows I like to take care of my things and respects that.

Bottom line: I dropped a significant (for me) amount of money on an iPad. If you can't be careful with it then quite frankly you're not going to use it. I know that sounds a bit rude but in the end, I have to live with a broken iPad if they drop it, they don't!

The only other person who's touched mine is my sister - on Easter Sunday. I wouldn't let her use it again. She held it carelessly & I was scared she'd drop it even though it was in a case.

that's what she said

And stupidest thread. ever.

Just when I think these threads can't get any less stupid...

really surprised at the amount of people that are selfish, I can understand complete strangers but family and friends? A simple reminder to be gentle with it would be enough for me.

Perfect example what is wrong with society, too many only think for themselves.

the 4 pages doesn't do anything for your argument.

Posting that it's stupid doesn't count as contributing to the discussion.

Wow, I can't believe some of the posts on these MAC forums.
Listen simple rule has worked for most of my life:
You break it you bought it.
So yes, I let other people use my stuff under that one simple rule and have NEVER had a problem.

I'll let family use it because I know they are likely to look after it, or pay for a replacement should they break it. I'm quite relaxed letting certain friends use it but it tends to stay within my sight. I would never let a friend borrow it for a long period of time. I'm sure most of us have had that experience when we lent a mint condition CD to a friend and it came back with a few scratches on it? - nothing serious but it just annoyed you because they haven't respected your possessions.

Wirelessly posted

What if you're walking along holding your iPad as carefully as possible and some iPad hater runs into you and knocks it out of your hand?
What if you accidentally trip or fall while textwalking and drop it in the fall?
What if you place it on a safe location and your 25 pound cat jumps up and knocks it down?
What if an earthquake topples a brick from an old crumbling storefront on it while you're sitting below it eating hummus and browsing your favorite hemp clothing online store catalog?
What if you forget you're wearing $500 earbuds cuz they're so comfortable and you pull it off your desk after listening to your entire collection of Kenny G????

Apple care isn't just for strangers handling your iPad!

Um, no...

Secretary at work wanted to borrow mine while she kept an eye on visitors, luckily I was out of the office so she borrowed someone's junk tablet instead. I have eBay, credit cards, logins to forums, my digital life stored on here. That is like letting someone into your wallet or purse. Now if I was keeping an eye on visitors, would you let me browse your purse so I will not get bored? Granted I am sure she just wanted to browse the net and do some reading, but I am not the :apple: store. If you want to try one out, go stand in line and play with one.

No. I don't let people handle my phone, my wallet, my laptop or my iPad. These are personal items with personal information on them. And expensive to boot.

So because you have never dropped or lost guarantees you are incapable of or it won't happen to you?:eek:

Yeah, that is dangerous thinking. I've had a bunch of iPads since the day the first one came out and never had any problem with dropping them...until yesterday when I dropped my 3rd gen and the screen shattered.

Take it from me. It can happen to you.

I don't like the options in this poll. Complete stranger off the street? No, I wouldn't hand it to them. But if they wanted to, I'd show it to them while I hold it. I'd let acquaintances handle my iPad but wouldn't step away from them. Anyone else that I consider a friend can use it with or without me. Only my friends know my unlock code anyway.

I do have insurance but it's more for peace of mind. Plus, it's just a device. There's no need to be so attached to something thats easily replaceable.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes, of course.

It's only a product.

A personal product which may contain all of the owner's e-mails, Internet search history and fap-material. Hence the usefulness of a guest account.

While I voted that I would in fact let a stranger touch my iPad. In real life I'd be a little more careful who uses, or touches it. People are too irresponsible these days with their own stuff let alone somebody else's! So in other words, get your dirty little paws off of my stuff! Show some respect for other peoples property!!! :D

It's just a flippin iPad...

Get a life people.

It is just a flippin' iPad, but why would you hand anything you paid more than $5 for to a stranger?

I have a lot of complete strangers on the train express interest in my iPad, because I'm always reading about it. Doesn't mean I'm just going to hand it to them and let them go to town. A $600 tablet does not belong in the hands of someone I don't know. My kids can mess with it (under close supervision) and my wife can use it. That's it.

Let's be realistic. No one in their right mind is going to hand over something like that to a stranger.

Friends? My friends have as much common sense & respect for me as I have for them. Most won't be that interested. Those who are interested would only ask to hold it, in order to see what it's weight and bulk is like.

Therefore I'd be happy to give them that opportunity. They'd do the same for me. It's just not a big deal.

Worse case... Someone accidentally drops it? That's why Apple sells them, it's replaceable, good friendships are not.

But then again, I don't worship Apple like some do :)

It's just stuff. The people in my life are far more important.

After comtemplating on whether buying apple care, I realized I'd only be buying it in case a friend or stranger drops my iPad. In the past I have never dropped or lost any of my electronics so in my mind if I do have to pay $299 replacement then I've still saved at least 2k of warranties over the years.

Then I thought, why Should I pay insurance for someone else's mistake? (I've had some crappy friends in the past who drop my things and don't pay for it)

I go to coffee shops a lot and I must be an approachable person bc every time I'm out, someone asks to see my iPad. I guess I should just say no?? I just feel the peer pressure of everyone watching me. One time I did say no and some stranger looked at me as if I was an assh*le. Lol

Do you let friends or strangers look at your iPad?

No one is allowed to mess with my iPadnand if someone asks I just ask if they have $600 I can hold onto while they see it just in case they break it. Not worth the risk :apple:

I wouldn't want some stranger breaking my iPad. Yes I can buy a new one but most strangers are probably not going to reimburse you the money if they break it.
