Yeah but I just don't like it. It's going to have to be on everything because it's on my birth certificate. I never go by it in anything else so why should it be on my license, passport etc.

You don't actually have to use it on ID such as your drivers licence, passport, etc, just because it's on your birth certificate.

I use my middle name on ALL my identification, but I skip it when I fill in a form or application of any sort by hand.

My middle name is a last name and my last name is a first name. This confuses the hell out of people, who occasionally take the liberty of assuming I've filled out forms wrong. I had a car title like that for a while.

And this would amuse me if I were you as i went through life :)

Im indian so my middle name is my dad's name and it is long. if i had a choice, i wouldn't have a middle name as everyone asks me what it is and i don't say. i don't mind it tho. OP, carmela isn't bad. I don't know why any one would think its funny. Besides mine is much worse than urs if it makes u feel any better.

My middle name is one of my dads middle names, and also the first name of my cousin. I rather like it. 4 letters, 1 silly bull, short n sweet.

My middle name is the korean version of my first name. My mom wasn't very creative when it came to mine and my brother's middle names.
Carmela is pretty. I knew a hispanic girl in high school named Carmela. Her name sounded very exotic to me, compared to the Susan's, Cynthia's, etc.

Yes, my middle name is in memory of my Mother's Step-Father, who was much more a father to her than her own dad. I just wish I could have met him. I hear he was great. :(

My middle name was my grandfathers name.

I feel, well, honored to have his name.

My middle name was my grandfather's middle name. Granther actually went by his middle name most of his life. My family has a tradition of passing down middle names. It's a nice way of maintaining continuity without the possibility of saddling a kid with a dorky first name.

To the OP: hey, it's your life, your name and all that, but what's so bad about having a middle name like that? Ninety-five percent of people you encounter are never going to know it. What's the big?

My father thought it'd be a good idea to name me Attila after the Emperor of the Huns. He did so to piss his mother in law off, since she's very religious and Attila used to do not so nice things (like impaling) to clerics when he invaded new territories. I've got another middle name: Morgan. Yes, like the privateer. For the same reason. This one was known to kill the priests found aboard every ship at the time.
:p

:p

That is awesome.
You're lucky to have such a cool middle name.
And a cooler dad.

I go by my middle name Lee. My first name is Ida. I hate my first name. So many people call me by my first name.

Knowing you're a girl, and seeing you middle name is "Lee" I almost thought you were my cheating ex girlfriend. haha

Anyways, what so wrong with the name Ida? I like it.

Really?

Awesome!
:)

Yes, really. Had it depended only on him, it'd have been my first name, but my mother thought it'd be too much, and found "Juan" exotic (she's french, and didn't speak spanish at the time) so here I am.

Of course I do. What is not to like about Danger? :D

Eh. It's alright. Hate being named after a retarded starfish that befriends a sponge, though.
Aw, Patrick isn't a bad name.

Neither is Carmela. (to the OP) You don't have to use it on everything, not so much that it should affect your daily life. Offending your family may affect your life and their feelings more than just keeping the name would. </a thought>

Sure do, it's William. It was my dad's middle name, his dad's first name, and his dad's first name too! Though, they went by Bill... Me and my dad even have the same initials.

Yes. My middle name is my father's, grandfather's and great grandfather's first names.

Ditto . . . ;^)

My middle name was my grandfathers name.

I feel, well, honored to have his name.

Same here . . .

And we gave both of our kids middle names that are the first names of their
paternal and maternal grandfathers (son) and paternal great-grandmother
(daughter). Since both sets of our grandparents were immigrants, it's a way
to keep track of the genealogy, even though it's hard to trace ancestry back
past that generation.

Mine is my father's name, and it has become a bit a of tradition to use it as a middle name. Mine is Ray, my sister's is Rae, one of my niece's is also Rae, another niece is Raye, and my daughter's middle name is Reigh. We gave our son the same middle name as my wife's father, so we were able to give them each somewhat of a namesake.

My middle name is also the middle name of one of my brothers, and of my dad, and of his dad, and was the maiden name of his father's mother-in-law's mother. I kinda wondered if my granddad's folks were hoping to inherit some antique silver dessert spoons or something. It must have taken them months to decide whom to honor with a namesake.

Well at least it wasn't Rapscallion, which, when I think about it, might have served us all just as well so far.

Well OP, I would think people would love a middle name like Carmela. It's a great name.

My middle name is rather plan, and is my ball busting uncle's name.

However I could not say I really would change it. Yeah, it's on my license, and passport, but oh well. I ususally only whip those out for persons of authority.

I imagine that regardless of what your first name is, if you hate it, it will seem like many people DO call you that name - even if it's really only a handful of people.

What drives me nuts is this: my first name is one that is often shortened to a "nickname" of sorts, and although I use the full name, and introduce myself as such, there are people who take it upon themselves to greet me by the shortened nickname. I hate that.
