-snip- although I use the full name, and introduce myself as such, there are people who take it upon themselves to greet me by the shortened nickname. I hate that.

Yeah, been there. Some people I've just given up on, but with one or two at work, I used to train them. They would say whatever nickname they settled on and I would ignore them until they physically touched my arm or said just "Hey!" or something like that. Then I'd look up and say sort of absentmindedly, "Oh, right.. sorry. I go by Elizabeth."

The first time I did that, they'd say "oh" or something, and promptly address me the next day by the nickname again. I would do exactly the same thing. Exactly. I would say EXACTLY the same thing, in EXACTLY the same, offhand way.

Rinse and repeat, as they say. By the THIRD TIME... they got it.

My first and middle name is Konstantinos Sotirios. I hated both names growing up because my first name was too long to fit in the school systems, so it would always be Konstantin. That was my name on my birth certificate, but my friends went by Gus, thankfully.

My middle name is nothing special, Daniel. However it was my father's side's tradition to name the eldest son *First Name* *Middle Name* Osbourne Gage, however my mother protested to this which I am quite annoyed about, I would have quite liked to have carried on the name tradition.

I hate my middle name i feel its the worst one of them all. Its "Domingo" :( sunday in spanish..

It's actually my family name in France!!!

In Spain, you get two surnames:

Name + Father's 1st Surname + Mother's 1st Surname

For instance, if I married, say, Jessica Alba, we'd call our child Steve Moro Alba. :D

In France:
Name + As many middle names as your parents want + Your father's Surname

Bad thing is, I was born in France (in the deep, deep French countryside) and the people at the townhall thought my Father's TWO surnames were only one, so when came the time to write down my surname, they just wrote both. So I have three names (two of them weird: see earlier in the thread) and a very long family name (three words)...

In Spain, I've got a different, shorter name.
It sucks, at times, like when your ID has a name, and your credit cards another... But having two passports is worth the hassle. That said, some day I'll try to change my French name.

Victoria.

No...sounds prissy.

I actually went by my middle name in school because I caught crap about my first name and how it didn't match my last name (Chinese first name, American last name). But going by Victoria brought its own problems:

"Do you have some secrets, Victoria?"
"Can I see your secrets, Victoria?"

etc etc.

Blah.

My parents never gave me a middle name :(

But i have a very unique first and last name (in the USA at least).

My first name is Danesh (Pronounced Dah-nesh); it's Persian (which my dad is, i'm half white/half persian)!

My last name (which i won't say) is a funny story actually. When my dad was emigrating out of Iran they accidentally added an "I" to the end of his last name. So now all my family on my dad's side has a different last name (it's sounds much different, even if it only was an "I" extra).

But i like my "false" last name, it goes much better with Danesh :)

I think it's a very pretty name. People (and usually guys) often find really stupid things to say about names when they can't think up anything more creative to say.
My first name is Blue, you cannot imagine how many times I've heard the same unoriginal dumbass "jokes" about my name. Each time the person appears to expect me to find their lame attempt at humour (that I've heard for the thousandth time) oh so hilarious. Whenever someone starts in with one I almost immediately turn-off and want nothing to do with them, not that they'd notice. So seldom is anyone original about it. Always the same 'colour' jokes or "are you blue, Blue?" *gag* Spare me.
I do love my name in spite of it all, however.

Bah... I get this too with my name. My name's Isabella, and a friend from my school says to me "Isabell-a-necessary-item-on-a-bike?" Was funny at first, but now it's annoying lol.

My middle name is Kathleen by the way, after my great grandmother. My full, formal name (minus my surname) is Isabella Kathleen. :)

I like mine, it's Dzidra. My folks picked it because there was a Latvian waitress at a restaurant they frequented during their student days who was called Dzidra, and they liked her and the name.

It was supposed to be my first name, but they chickened out at the last minute. Growing up I wished they hadn't, but now that I live in a different country I appreciate that it would've caused problems here because no one would've dared to try to pronounce it. :D Nice to have a plain first name for the sake of convenience.

My best friend named one of her cats Dzidra in honor of my middle name.
