Sharing pane in the System Preferences.

Oh and I name mine after White Stripes songs. So my Powerbook is Little Acorn, and my iMac is Blue Orchid.

tho gota figure a name for my macbook pro that is arriving soon i hope:D

maybe some unix/linux geeks remember slackware at the times, it named the pc by default darkstar...

My iBook is called Tony 2 (i had a G3 iBook for a few days before i got this which was called Tony).

My girlfriends iPod mini is called Tony jnr. :)

I'm hoping to get a MBP and call it Tony Pro.

On the other hand my athlon is called AMDX24400 :p

I never named my Mini though.

My wife and I name our computers and cars. Actually started becuase a friend at college gave names to some of our stuff. She thought it was bad luck to name and then rename something, the idea stuck to this day. =)

Titanium Powerbook - Garfield
Mac Mini - Nermal
P4 Desktop - Odie
Thinkpad T42 - Does not play well with others ("DNPWWO")

My car Honda Accord - Astro (from Jetsons)
Wifes car Honda Civic - Babs (from Chicken Run)

Naming computers

I have yet to name my old/new iMac. It's a loan from my company, so I don't think it would be right. However, my Gateway laptop has a huge list of names that it is called on a regular basis. Decorum prevents me from mentioning them here. Have yet to name my 30G video iPod. I'll keep you guys posted, I know you'll be on pins and needles.:D

Say Yes to Mac Names

I have always named Macs (not Wintel machines however).

Currently:
Green iMac DV = "Green Machine"
(was "Kermit" with OS 9)

iBook = "Snow White"

Mac Mini = "White Rose"

Obviously going with color association, as well as a somewhat creative name. Also, HD icons are consistent with the name (Green Machine has picture of the old Green Machine trike, Snow White is picture of Snow White, ... you get the idea).

Creative names are so much better than "John Doe's Computer", unless you are on a medium to large office network and need to know who's computer you are sharing/transferring data with.

Desktop iMac 20" = Iggy (short for Igor as he does my bidding)
60g iPod Photo = Ziggy (reference to the super computer in Quantum Leap)
1g iPod Shuffle = Chou Chou (French endearment, as well as reference to my favorite scene in one of my favorite musicals)

And the Honda Civic Hybrid is nicknamed James, after the first few letters in his VIN (and cause he drives me places), but his real name is Tansei

My 17" Intel iMac: Francisco (Elf reference, also it was introduced in SF)
iBook: Greg (from greg the bunny and greg house)

Named your Mac yet??

Yo.. i want to see if some people with macs like to name there macs...i have a Black Macbook and i named it Mary..you get it?

[Moderator note: threads merged]

Ive never ever named a computer... I just saw no reason to. All hard drives are always called "Macintosh HD" also...

I know a science teacher who names all of the Macs in his room (about 15) after famous scientists. I thought that was clever.

I didn't name my computer.

Yeah, but teacher types are always a bit strange like that. I remember that our computers in HS were named after...something that was important, but followed a logical pattern. I know the Laserwriters were named after the terminus points of the Red and Green Metro lines in DC...

iBook - Smithback
iBook HD - Bosch
External HD - Crookshanks
iPod Nano - Rhyme

future iMac Core (2?) Duo - Pendergast
future iMac HD - Cross

Is it lame that I've already named my future iMac? I feel like an expectant father.
