Hey now, even Martha Stewart recommends talking to plants.
She made her own marshmallows! What normal person in their right mind makes their own marshmallows!!!? She cannot be trusted! I bet they were good though.

The name for my iMac struck me quite quickly while pondering whether to order it or not (which I obviously did) so it's called Eple now.

The name for my MacBook was a bit tougher story but after pondering around what would suit the iMac-laid nomenclature, I ended up typing Leno in the Sharing pane.

I'd say there's a clear logic about them but it's not something absolutely everyone will know.

Read the last sentence he wrote, then walk over to the calendar and figure out which year it is.
*looks at clock*

ok, so it's 2.30am - that's pretty late, but since when was in two thousand and.... six...?

:p

my bad

what's worse is that I didn't pay attention...!!!

nah..but for hds..yes

I just call my macs : G4 and G5 respectively

I do, however, name all my internal and external HDs. They are mostly named after WWII planes such as Lancaster, Halifax, Corsair, Spitfire, Thunderbolt...

weird, but oh well :)

Both of my macs, and the other windows computers that were on my network, are named after Greek dieties (but Latin Names). My original ibook G4 is named Venus, because it was so damn beautiful when I got it. The iMac core duo is named Neptune.

The windows lappy is named Mars, because it wreaks havoc.

So far my systems have all been named after cool albums.
Currently, my Athlon is "Aero" and my ibook g3 (which I have to give back to my highschool:( ) has an OSX partition "Oxygene" and an OS9 partition, "Odyssey".
As it happens, there are all classic electronica albums....

I'm thinking when I get my MBP, I may switch to names out of literature and myth (I'm going to be studying humanities at university).
I'm thinking of naming the MBP "Beowulf", with a boot camp partition "Grendel"
:D

I'm glad I saw this thread...heregoes

12" PB = Tumnus
|-> Yes, C.S. Lewis made me do it.

Cheap homebrew Wintel box = Sensible
|-> Why spend $3000 on an ugly computer when you can spend $300

iPod doesn't have a name...
But...
External hard drive for photos = BrokenLight
|-> Damn, Beatles

Backup drive for photos = Dawn
|-> When the first drive crashes (and a good deal of my money with it), this will serve to brighten my spirits.

Media (Music, TV, etc.) drive = Snowball II
|->Amazingly enough, the first one WAS actually named Snowball

I don't talk to my plants, but I do snicker and make obscene gestures when they're looking the other way.

i dont have a mac yet but my old dell dimension 2100 has a name. "tomato." after edward's computer from cowboy bebop.

i plan on naming my macbook pro but im having trouble thinking of a good enough name.

I named the servers at the school where I work:
Newman - Xserve G5 (mail server)
George - G4 Tower ASIP server
Kramer - G4 Tower OS X server
Jerry - Workgroup Server ASIP
Elaine - CD server

My first Mac, a PowerBook G4, was named Lygaeid, a family of leaf insects that includes the milkweed bug, which are red and back with X-like pattern on their back (as in Mac OS X).

My second and new Mac, a MacBook, is Firefly, named after the short-lived TV show.

Alex

My G5 is named Atari.
the drives are named
Alyosha,Ivan, and Dimitri.

My powerbook is named Emelius Brown,
and the drive is named Woland.

The external hard drive I have, is partitioned and one is named The Master, and the other Margarita.

Cheers!

Isaac is a good name.

My new iBook is called Isaac.

(and my car is called Rufus)

My middle name is Isaac... the cool thing is my first name is Walter and my last name starts with a N, making my initials WIN.

At any rate when ever I try to come up with a name for something like my computer I always have trouble trying to think of a good one. And because of that I would take a long time and then forget to even name it. So now I need to name my computer something... but right now I have lots of homework, so don't let me forget.

I don't name my computers, but I might name my iMac when it gets in..

I named my iPods, though.

10GB 3G: Lisa
20GB 4G: Lisa II
30GB 5G: Lisa III
60GB 5G: Lisa IV

Yep.

It's after Apple's Lisa.
