After all, I need to have my minimum daily requirements of both vitamin D and sugar. :)

Please stop, I'm begging you guys.

Oh, and the container can be used over and over and over again, unlike waxed card-board or plastic jugs.

And who has an option of returnable bottles anymore??

I shake it. Regardless of "homogenization" I still find that shaking my skim milk clears up any possible issues, as I have found separation does occur.

TEG

What exactly is there to "separate" in skim milk? The fat has been removed; there's nothing to mix!

It hasn't been necessary since homogenized milk. But I picked up this habit as a kid.

And your screen name is Capt Underpants... you're no longer a kid.

Some of these answers could be better understood if we knew the gender of the person posting.

I don't shake my milk, but then I don't have any.

I do shake the milk before pouring it. I'm not sure why I do - it's an old habit that I probably picked up from my mom who did have the milk delivered in bottles by the milkman, etc. I'm not sure I'd be able to stop myself from doing it now - it's just automatic - open the fridge, pull out the milk, *shake*, then pour.

While at a firebase in 'Nam, I was sitting on a stack of sandbags
eating some chow and I had a small carton of Wilsons milk that had a caption written on the back "not a dairy product"! It tasted like milk to me! I still shake my milk.

Growing up, my mom only ever bought skim milk, which sucks, and as a result I never developed a taste for it. I don't buy milk, period.

Not only shake it, but I also give it the sniff test. I've quaffed a cup of milk that was - lets say on its way to becoming cottage cheese. Now I make sure it hasn't turned yet :)

Nope. Just smell and pour (or throw out).

Milk when near the end of its shelf life can have that smell but still be palatable. Maybe you know that. :)

For myself, when I first discovered soy, and then almond milk, which I now drink in place of milk, I do shake it prior to pouring it on my cereal.
