I tried to figure it out, but it doesn't make any sense. Maybe an explanation is forthcoming.
Never have smoked. My parents (both smokers) really stressed on not smoking. Once when I was 8, my dad (who smoked Camels non-filted) let me try a puff because I asked. One puff and I was gagging and coughing. That convinced me to never try again.
Luckily, when I was a teenager, none of my friends smoked so there was no peer pressure.
My dad gave me a sip of beer when I was around that age too. That and him telling me it was made from bits of snails put me right off it and made me a teetotaller, heh.
I do smoke. It calms me down. I am also aware of the repercussions and cautious that my habit does not bother anyone else.
But I am not going to stop smoking as of now. I do exercise and workout. I am gonna live enough, that I know.

Nah, I don't smoke and never have. Now, alcohol, on the other hand, is another matter entirely...

I took the comment as a reference to condoms/protection - as in protecting oneself from risky/potential harmful effects of chosen behavior.
Though I admit, this is only a guess - maybe it is just a bad joke

i have been on and off since freshman year of high school. but i have been on my longest streak of 2 years 8 months currently. wow it hasent been as long as i thought. that's a good thing i guess.

If you want to smoke, be my guest, just don't do it where I have to breath in your noxious fumes and there won't be a problem.
