iPhone XR glass protectors rank #4 in sales at Amazon for Cell Phone and Accessories.
Don't get me wrong. I think you are correct regarding Xr sales.
The only thing I don't trust anymore is Amazon sales ranking.

I have seen junk with fake reviews ranking very high with a minimal verified purchases.
So Amazon stats are no indicator for me.

The other reason has to do with getting Mac OS to look and act more like iOS, and the other way around. In the very near future, we will have some applications that are designed to work the same way on iOS and Mac OS, and indeed to even be the exact same application.
I do not believe that iOS and macOS will converge.

But I'm 99% sure that ARM MacBooks with all the recompiled frameworks are already running.
You can see this with Metal and Apples custom GPU's.

I'm not against ARM Macs at all, but I think Apple has lost the product lineup and strategy.

But the LCD Xr is a one-time event. So no buy for me.
I will prolong my phone upgrade cycle to three years.

I'm not leaving Apple because of iPhones, iPads and the Apple TV.
All the rest is dead to me.

if the max were cheaper there'd be no reason for the xr to exist

That’s not how Apple’s marketing/iPhone line up works. Apple should have the XS, it gives consumers options and it creates diversity, the XR is a ‘place keeper’ for an entry level phone offering Face ID and new form factor. The XS is for those who want the top of the line offering from Apple. If the XS was banished, why would Apple only offer one iPhone with Face ID? It’s about maximizing profits through expansion.

I find it hard with the idea that people buy the XR based on size, coming down from an X. The other way, yes. A 6.1" screen phone would be a joy to hehold after being used to the 5.5 of the pluses.

The XR is the best iPhone out this year. I knocked it when it was announced, and now I own one. The XSes are super expensive and Apple OLEDs aren’t too great right now in my opinion, the XR is a nice balance of a good screen, the best iOS battery life ever made - better than the XS Max - and good size. The XR is getting a bad rep because Apple decided to overprice it like everything else, and the colors are reminiscent of the 5C which was mediocre at best.

For me, it's a combination of a reliable backup phone, plus that lovely elegant white colour. The screen is great and 326ppi (if on a bigger phone) has been around for 8 years and few complained about the screen then. There's also the 128GB sweet spot of storage which suits me for only 50 bucks or pounds.

They will kill the XR and drop the Xs and Xs Max price tags. OR they should!
Low-res LCD in a 800-hundred euro 2019 smartphone? Only if they're dumb they'll do that.

My manager and I both have Black XRs. Both love them. Of course price is a big driver, but not for everyone. Some people prefer LCD, some prefer the 6.1” display size, and some have had XS or XS Max and decided after using the XR, that the XS models weren’t worth the significant premium. I think the XR will be around as long as the XS models remain super expensive.

The XR is great, I got the Product Red myself, though at the moment I have a black case on it so it’s more like black with red highlights which looks cool. I’d like to find a good quality matte case or just a red that matches it eventually, because I tried a Spigen clear case and I wanted to like it but I hated seeing all the dirt on the back of the phone.

It's a mid-range phone albeit it is quite costly (but that's Apple), it has many of the features of the XZ and XZ Max; side by side by side, I can't tell the difference between the screens of the XR and the XZ Max.

I'd rather own the XR than any of Android's phones.
[doublepost=1546103096][/doublepost]Sorry folks, I keep writing ZX Max When I mean XS Max.

I have cancer and this has impacted my short-term memory.

I literally took my buddy’s iPhone X, put it right next to my XR, went to several webpages in Safari, looked at several images, went to pages that displayed black background (like Apple’s homepage), and I struggled to see a major difference. This screen bashing is completely unfounded. The XR display is fantastic. It’s sharp enough to look crisp, colors are vibrant and accurate, it support wide gamut, has 120Hz touch refresh, True Tone, and tap to wake. I can’t wrap my mind around why the fact that it’s a Retina display, higher pixel density than the iPad Pro, with all of the refinements, it makes the phone overpriced because it’s not as hi res as the Plus or other X models.

Yes.

I’ve heard rumours of Samsung developing a LCD with the touch layer more integrated into the display layer ie so it’s thinner.

Thus Apple can then make the overall phone thinner too.

Perhaps then this is when we’ll see a Touch ID phone that’s a clear upgrade for those who prefer the 4.7 inch screen iPhone (and maybe the body will only be a little bigger than the SE thus providing an upgrade path for SE users).

For me that’s a massive gap in 2018’s lineup - no successor for iPhone 6, 6S, 7 & 8 users (ie the majority of iPhones out in the wild).

Finally, the XR 2018 I can see sticking around too, but at the lower price point they everyone wanted to see in 2018 - and only in black and white.

Perhaps I have a very accurate vision because side by side I can see the difference which at least for me is quite obvious when black backgrounds are displayed. On the XR it’s never pitch black, it’s like very dark gray. You can also tell that there’s backlighting and more so when you look sideways at a black background. It’s a decent display nevertheless but at this price point is should be OLED.

Yes, I'm sure you can tell a difference watching YouTube or videos between the XR and the XS Max in a darkened room. I doubt I'll be doing that anyway. I like watching YouTube clips on my phones but not movies

With all the bad press the iPhone xr has been getting: apple not disclosing the official sales of it's phones anymore , seeing at least here in Germany dtores discounting an iPhone for the first time , merely months after the release , also the media ( deservedly) criticizing its screen; do you think Apple will remove it from its 2019 lineup?

I think the production costs of the iPhone x design should be low enough after 2 years of using it ( it's pretty clear , that apple won't change the design next year ) , so that the iPhone xs becomes the standard iPhone at a "sane" price point .

What do you think? Do you see this happening or do you just see apple slapping a 1080p screen on the iPhone xr and an improved camera and calling it a day ? Or even worse just updating the internals and the camera and keep using the 720p screen ? Or maybe just keeping it as discounted option but not releasing a 2019 at all ?

I think you should reading and listening to people making up stuff with zero facts from Apple.. You seem to have the belief the screen is crap? Tell me, do you feel the same way with the new iPad Pro which is using EXACTLY the same screen technology? Or is that device different because it has ‘Pro’ in its name?

People are buying the xr over the xs because of the price , that's it , I have a hard time believing people would choose it over the xs if they would cost the same
I mean, duh? That’s the most obvious assessment you could have made, because price is the biggest factor into a buying decision. A lot of folks are missing out though, because dollar-for-dollar the XR is undeniably the better value.

I should add, I like my XR, it’s the best upgrade I could have made, I prefer its LCD screen and its size is big, but not Plus size big.
All Apple will do to it is improve and upgrade it like the other models. I get a bit sick and tired of the constant slating of it to be honest, it’s all opinion based with no fact, especially the constant bashing about its screen. Sony have launched a top spec LCD TV, perhaps people on here should write to them telling them it’s rubbish and pointless and out dated in 2018 to do that and to stick to OLED?
Yet they say that having never see either screen.

I’m glad I’m using screen tech that’s newer then the XS, because I think their maybe one other phone on the market with a bezelfree LCD screen.

I think it'll stay. It fills a price point that other iPhones don't. I can't see Apple selling the XS at a discount next year to fill that price point, and even with a $100 discount, it'll still be too expensive to fill the XR's price point.

Current reports are the lineup will look the same next year

This time last year reports said we’d get a phone that looked like an iPhone X, one that would be a “plus sized” iPhone X, and an LCD model that went in between the two sizes

Given how far ahead these phones are designed and budgeted for, we can learn a lot of information from the supply chain and I don’t see why that information would be inaccurate

What 2020 will have in store, is another question

Screen tech that is newer than the XS?
Hunh? OLED tech itself is newer than LCD tech

The LCD tech is impressive sure. It’s not better than OLED though. What do you mean it’s not based on fact? It certainly is based on fact. OLEDs can display deeper blacks, more vibrant colours, you can bend it, each pixel is individually lit, they can lead to a thinner device and on smartphones they are the tech that has higher resolutions and pixels per inch as well.

If it was a better screen objectively, Apple would be using it in the XS and XS Max, not in their more budget friendly device. There are reasons Apple identifies it as the best display for their smartphones, as they mentioned many of the positives in various apple events including the Apple Watch unveil and iPhone X unveil

If you like the XR lcd that’s fine, it’s a really nice screen. I have a XR as well. I agree it’s a great display.
If you like LCD as a technology, that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with LCD. My retina iMac 5k looks amazing with an lcd.
But it is what it is, and there’s no need to downplay Apple’s OLED displays

I reckon they'll keep it around then drop the price on the next cycle. It was a good call using some of the XS internals, it'll justify keeping it around. Especially if they decide to trim the product line down to push sales towards newer devices.

I'd love to know the actual sales figures of the iPhone 7 & 8 in comparison to the new lineup.

Yes, the XR is using brand new cutting edge screen tech, only this year we saw bezel free LCD screens due to the cutting edge back lighting techniques they’ve made. OLED has been out for a while even in bezel free form, and anyone could bend the screen like Apple, they don’t do it because it costs more.
The XR screen is more high tech then the XS and XS Max screens are.
And facts and opinions are LCD works with True Tone, have no burn in, and produce better shadows, they can adjust their levels much more then OLED can.
Just wait for Micro LED panels to be big, OLED will be ditched in no time.

And FYI you proved my point by giving your ‘opinion’ on OLED screens.
