On the next iPhone I heard they're going back to metal rear shell.
But what they're charging for repairs is crazy. They're making a killing and jacked up the AppleCare plus price way up there too.
So either way the whole thing is glass so wether front or rear glass cracks it's a win win for Apple :D
Unbelievable.
Nobody else notices that?
If the back cracks, you can put it in a case. If you drop your phone, it’s your fault for dropping something expensive.

Because you are sensationalizing a non issue. It costs more to repair a state of the art product than it does to repair a run of the mill product. That’s always been the case.
Once again, just because you disagree with me doesn’t make me a troll. A non-issue for you, maybe an issue for others. Get it through your head.

Just because you don’t see an issue doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

You make it seems like it’s a matter of opinion. It’s not like Apple is charging you for an unalienable right. It’s a luxury item that is expensive to buy and fix. Try owning a luxury German car. That’s life. Buy what you can afford.

Fragilegate? The phone is made largely of glass, glass breaks. That's a given. Yes, Apple is doing some skanky things price-wise, but to suggest a lawsuit because of the materials used is silly.

It's nice that Apple gives customers a choice between glass and metal backed phones. I'll stick with metal (and not just because it's my music of choice. :p)

I see iPhone X fragility as an issue. But I don’t see how your reply is relevant to my previous comment.

Rolex watches are fragile. Diamonds are fragile. Your argument is fragile. That’s life.

People don’t care about Rolex, or diamonds, or other companies as much as they care about Apple products. Apple is held to much higher standards. Rolex won’t get sued for a fragile watch, but Apple will get sued for a fragile phone. That’s life and the whole point of my thread.

I feel like this place is becoming a repository for people who can’t figure out how to become YouTube stars or writers for Buzzfeed. So they come here and try to create threads with ridiculous titles to try to get clicks, because stirring up a few dozen people in a web forum is as close as they can get to becoming famous.

What about Gatesgate?

I’m betting the phone as a whole is solid. But I’m thinking a drop might screw up the Face ID components, more easily than the home button.

Just a guess. Y’all be careful with your phones.

I doubt it honestly. I bet they factored that in

Where do you come up with these assertions? Millions? I think your thread is nonsensical in the sense there is a world outside a tech forum where millions of iPhone X owners who will experience no issues with owning their iPhones. The majority also use some form of a case to protect it.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen an iPhone without a case in the wild. I use mine without a case sometimes, the reponse from people is usually “you use your phone without a case!?”

What is that mean?
Because you came across iphones with cases in your local area the millions of iphones out there in the world are all with cases on?
Or are you suggesting that an iphone wont break with a case on?

I was agreeing with the op that most people use a case.

Very possible. Was partially going from a YouTube video and partially going from what I believe is common sense.

Face ID is new. It’s based on a few small sensors in the notch. And cameras are more fragile than a big ole home button.

But I could be totally wrong! No idea.

Oh I mean failure rate probably will be higher than Touch ID. But significantly so to the point where people are complaining about a dropped but not shattered iPhone having Face ID issues? In droves?

That’s what im doubting

I just mean a real drop. Not too high, but enough to cause a real jostling of the parts up top. Only time will tell. Hopefully no issue.

Yeah I’m optimistic

But that’s what I’m referring to too btw

A real rattle shack up, with no detriment to Face ID assuming the phone doesn’t shatter from direct impact sorta thing

I’m thinking it’ll be fine for the most part. I’ve owned the original iPhone, 4, 5 and 6. The trick is to just not drop them. Drop any phone and it can be trouble.

Yes but that wasn't my point.
Off course it's your fault for breaking it.
But $550 for a rear piece of glass?
That's very unreasonable I think.

I don’t know this but do they just repair the glass or replace the whole iPhone?

I assumed the latter for the price of 549

If not I would demand it?

I’ve dropped many a phone with many a case and been fine

All until official leather caused my 7+ to shatter

I’ve dropped my 7+ tens of tens of times with a heavy duty Rhinoshield bumper or a half decent spiegen and it’s been fine operationally
