Assuming that the Series 7 is working properly, undamaged and you are happy with the size, is it worth upgrading to the Series 10?

I have the seven and no, I’m not gonna upgrade to the 10. Mine works just fine. I don’t see much difference if at all with the upgraded 10. Next year, maybe

Totally get that. Honestly, my main reason for even thinking about getting the Series 10 is due to the fact that I got interested in the cellular version which I did not opt for in my Series 7. All other features are a bonus, though I am still not sure whether it is worth it for cellular alone.

I have the seven and I'm already waiting for the Series 10 to arrive.

For me, these are the reasons for having bought it:

- Series 8: Crash car detection.
- Series 9: x2 nits and 30% faster GPU (Siri on device, okk..)
- Series 10: 7% bigger screen, 10% thinner, AOD refreshing every second, 33% faster charge and 40% brighter display viewed from an angle (okk..)

And I take advantage of the change to buy the Cellular model.

No.

If you need your watch to have cellular but your old one doesn't have it, now that could be a reason to get a new one.

I have the series 7 and was looking to upgrade, but no SS option is a deal breaker for me.
I have an expensive SS link bracelet for mine, so would need to change that so would be looking at around £1k.

I might have to have a look around for a SS series 9 that someone is getting rid of instead.

need: no
want: sure

i have a 7 that i bought after the 8s came out since there wasn't that much difference between the two and i wanted SS so the 7 saved me money.

i'm getting the 10 because i want it.

I do the opposite. I run in a place where the network coverage is poor. Thanks to this, my battery has deteriorated, and in winter the watch can turn off after 15-20 minutes of training at 5-10C (with GSM and music on). I completely turned off GSM on the watch and did not feel the lack. I just do not know if the damage (81% battery) didn't go too far. For this reason, I am looking kindly at the Series 10 without GSM, especially since I really like the large screen. I thought about the Ultra, but I would do the same, turn off GSM, because it will not be better where I live.

Not a direct answer but I upgraded from S4 to S9 on a whim. Sure it’s nicer but I’d have been fine staying with the S4 which still works well. Lesson learned.

I have the same issue with every cellular watch I’ve had. Once the battery gets some age on it, even at >90% health, the watch will shut down when streaming music with LTE during an outdoor run under certain conditions, and it’s often early in the run. This happens at a high charge level, and is repeatable. Apple service hasn’t been helpful, instead pointing to the 80% policy. I suspect the Ultra, with its bigger battery, may be more resistant to developing this issue, but I’ve gone back to running with my phone.

Probably not, but that hasn't stopped me...

My main reasons for the upgrade are that my 7 was an emergency purchase after I smashed my old Watch, and I really wanted a cellular model. And I had a decent amount of Apple balance burning a hole in my virtual wallet.

I currently have a Series 7 SS gold that I am trading and also have the Series 9 SS Graphite. I was shocked last year the difference between the 7 and the 9. I could certainly tell the difference in weight and even the use and many functions so I can tell you that going from the 7 to the 10 will actually be a big change and if you are wanting cellular then even more reason. From previous watches and trading after the 3 years they really drop in value so now may be your best time to trade.

I'm thinking I probably will. My Series 7 goes through batter so fast now as my Battery Capacity is at 83%. My bigger decision is if I go with the Black Ultra 2 instead for the extra battery life.

i have the 7 and am looking for discounted deals on series 9 that still have the blood oxygen sensor. i refuse to give up a health sensor for a newer model. makes no sense. and apple had a year to figure this out.

It's a bit rudimentary, but it's enough to compare the differences between the Series 7-8-9 and the Series 10 with relative reliability.

I would say no especially if you're already happy with your existing Series 7. The longer you hold out on upgrading, the more financially sound it is (since the cost of your Series 7 would spread out over even a longer period) and the more features you will get the next time you do "have" to upgrade to a new Apple Watch.

I have found the cellular useful because there are times when I don't have a phone with me. Now, I don't often use the cellular feature but to me, spending an extra $100 for that is worth it because:
- I do go about without my phone sometimes and have had occasion to use either Walkie Talkie or the phone feature
- useful map navigation with cellular which can update maps as I move (something I do use when travelling)

But what's not worth upgrading though is going from a Watch that I'm happy using to upgrade just for cellular. Wait until you "have" to upgrade, then get the new Watch with the cellular option.

Hmm...this doesn't necessarily solve your problem but it might: have you considered downloading music to your Watch instead of streaming? Indeed, streaming with cell is very battery hungry, but playing local music isn't.

The Series 7 cost me 454 euros. Now I'm selling it to Apple for 125 euros after almost three years.

That's €329 in total or €110 per year or €9.1 per month.

Considering how much importance I attach to the watch… I am delighted with the cost.

If I had kept the watch for another year (assuming it doesn't break or anything) I think the cost would have come down to around €7.7 a month. For a euro and a bit it's not worth for me going without a treat...

I'm in the same boat. I've had my 45mm Series 7 since launch in 2021, and it's currently sitting at 81% battery health. It's been an absolutely fantastic watch, and the new jet black one is looking pretty tempting. My old worry is that the new jet black will scratch quite easily, as people have discussed online. Apple will also give me £100 trade in credit if I send in my old watch.
