I'm sure they'll tell us something that they haven't already shared, it may be the fingerprint thing, but, I too, also hope for a little something more.

The 4-inch screen was pretty much unknown until the announcement of the iPhone 5 last year.

Um, the rumors were all but 100% confirmed 4 months before the release... That was a hardware feature though, and a major one at that.

One thing I was thinking about, if the fingerprint reader turns out to be true - could Apple go for multiple user accounts, and have them be linked to the FP reader? You scan someone elses's FP into your iPhone and then that person can activate their personal account/setup just by pressing the homebutton. It would be quite elegant - but maybe Apple doesn't want to do multiple accounts.

Oh.. I must have lived in a cave last year.. so the 4-inch screen was pretty much unknown *to me*

Anyway I think multiple user accounts is more useful for iPads!

Hehe, well in that case I envy you because you must have had much more fun watching the keynote! :)

Agreed. So yeah, probably not part of this announcement, if it were happening at all.

Maybe some features that co-exist with the new hardware.. Things that we aren't able to test because were "just devs" .. But the other features they may have, like camera/fingerprint related apple can test themselves. I believe there may be a few more things

I doubt it. The release of iOS 7 and the new iPhones are likely less than 2 weeks away, so unveiling new features to the OS on Tuesday won't give developers enough time to properly test them with their apps.

They added Panorama photos to iOS 6 GM that was not in any of the betas.

Yep, as has been said, there are a lot of things they could add that developers don't need to test. Just don't expect anything that would come with an API, like Quick Reply.

Maybe something related to Fingerprint's integration with Passbook or NFC to make accessing those things quicker? Right now they're still cumbersome.

I don't know. It depends what those features are, for example Siri was revealed with the iPhone 4S, not the iOS5 preview, but that had/has very little open API at first. The obvious one would have been iTunes Radio this year, or the iWork iCloud stuff, but they've already revealed them.

I guess they're relying on the fingerprint sensor, probably some form of NFC and the new colours.

iOS 7 for ipad being delayed so far is being based on beta 6

Im sure a lot of changes have been made in terms of performance and stability in GM i would think...

Could be a feature that doesn't need 3rd party development time.

My "holding-out hope" surprise feature is Quick Reply. It effects an OS level app, so only Apple would need to know about it and would be done through notification center system-wide so no need for 3rd Party devs to deal with any new programming.

I just keep thinking, if they've implemented it in OS X Mavs, why wouldn't they in iOS 7? Especially because it seems more common sense in iOS 7 than in OS X.....

Anyways, that's all. And of course, the fingerprint stuff.

Right, they'll delay the release of iOS7 even though it is installed on all the iPhone 5S's and 5C's.

I'm only arguing against NFC because of this:

http://www.nearfieldcommunication.org/bluetooth.html

Especially if you read the last paragraph, Bluetooth LE is already present in ATV and newer iPhones, its protocol offers way more flexibility than NFC.

The only advantage is the passive NFC tags that might be used in stores to trigger some response for advertizing etc.

I'm not saying NFC is bad, I'm saying it will be obsolete before becoming successful. You'll see much more uses for Bluetooth LE in the future than the gimmicks that NFC can do today.

I think this is dead on. There are infinitely more uses for BLE via an implementation like iBeacons than NFC.

IF Apple ever gives us NFC, it will be in the iWatch IMO, not in the phone.

Are you kidding that developers wouldn't have to do anything? Unless you're saying they'll only implement quick reply for 1st party apps. How would the OS know how to send messages through each 3rd party app?

It wouldn't - it would be tied to the default Messages app and iMessage.

So yes, more specifically I'm saying Quick Reply for Messages (and would be awesome for mail).

You can't change defaults, so bringing Quick Reply to third party apps wouldn't really be on Apple's radar imo....

Sorry, my misunderstanding. There are of course many other messaging apps (Facebook etc) that give notifications so I thought you meant a quick reply for them too :)

In that case definitely could be a surprise feature. But I think it would have been much better as an API that other apps could plug into.

I kinda hoped Mr Ive would change the icons. Wasn't it said that the icons were not final several months ago?

It's possible they could eventually release dev tools to make it possible for third party apps. But even if that were the end goal, my guess is they would start with their own 1st party offerings.
