I don't expect any surprises, but it is unfortunate. We could REALLY use a "One more thing..." at the end of the keynote. Some big surprise that no one saw coming.

Yep, as has been said, there are a lot of things they could add that developers don't need to test. Just don't expect anything that would come with an API, like Quick Reply.

Why on earth would quick reply need a new API? They might announce quick reply but it could just be based off the same old notifications API.

----------

It's possible they could eventually release dev tools to make it possible for third party apps. But even if that were the end goal, my guess is they would start with their own 1st party offerings.

Or honestly they could release Quick Reply and just have it in tune with the current notification API's developers use.

The only surprise I can think of would not be this week, but with the iPads next month, perhaps iOS 7 will enable you to have two apps open at once, some kind of split screen ability, available only on the new iPads (not mini) with new processors?? ...unless they open up AirDrop to be able to use between iOS 7 & OS X on Mac, but, I hear they work differently ATM.

Whatever the iPhone 5C is will be a surprise. 5S is fairly predictable, fingerprint sensor. NFC would be a big surprise before iPhone 6.

I was told by some close to me that there won't be anything new, just bug fix. I put my life on this. Save this post and quote me tomorrow. There will be nothing new.

There's an API for the OS X implementation in 10.9. I presume there would be one in iOS as well so that apps like Textie and Whatsapp could use it.

Of course, Apple could release it without one and have it only work with messages, but I think they'd wait and release it properly than have it half-assed.

I understand Maverick has that API. But what I am saying is quick reply could be integrated into the current notifications API on iOS.

That doesn't matter, it still needs an API so developers can use it. It's integrated into notifications in 10.9.

1. It would make developing simpler. I bet since they haven't announced it yet they want it implemented fast and simple
2. It's apple they are all about minimalism.

I don't think you understand. QuickReply uses notification center on OS X (that's the whole point, so it's easy to reply) but that doesn't obviate the need for an API, because a third part app needs to be able to recognize the text inputted into the QuickReply field and do something with it. It uses an API on OS X, it'll use one on iOS as well.

Aside from fingerprint reader integration, do you think there are some new iOS7 surprises that we can expect on Tuesday? Logic tells me that everything is already out of the bag, but my inner geek hopes that they have hid a couple cool new pieces of functionality and will reveal them on Tues!

Zoom for video recording in the camera.

I miss Steve Jobs as the host of the keynote for that reason. He always had that "One more thing" up his sleeve.

Anyway I think multiple user accounts is more useful for iPads!

I would kill for this feature. In Apples eyes though, the iPad is not a multi user device.
