I have been wanting to get a mac for some time now and was sad when the mini just got a storage bump.

Do you think a 10th gen intel version will come out or are they just holding off until ARM?

There is no such thing as a Mac mini 2020. It's a Mac mini 2018 with more baseline storage. That's the only difference.

Since Apple recently updated the Mac mini with the baseline storage increase and passed it off as "new" [sic], there is zero chance of a new Mac mini at WWDC.

Remember, >85% of Macs sold are notebook computers and most of the desktops sold are iMacs. That probably means Mac mini comprises about 1-2% of Mac unit sales. Since Macs are about 10% of Apple's revenue, we are talking about less than 0.5% of Apple's total revenue from the Mac mini product line. It's not a relatively important product.

Apple took four years to update the 2014 model to the current 2018 version. In all likelihood, it will be another couple of years before we see a mini with upgraded performance.

If (and that's a BIG if) ARM comes to the Mac family, it would debut in a notebook computer, probably an entry level one to fill the space of the departed 12" MacBook 2017, for a target audience that does not rely on the ability to run x86-only software.

The Mac mini is powered by AC from your wall. The power-saving benefits of ARM are less valuable for a desktop computer.

Remember that ARM in Mac is a rumor not a guaranteed future given. Frankly, the way Apple is pushing iPad Pro toward a more computer-like experience makes me believe that ARM MacBooks are a fairytale.

One thing for sure, if an ARM Mac does debut, it will be with a smaller complement of compatible applications than what runs on an Intel Mac today.

If you want a Mac mini now just buy a refurbished unit.

I don't expect a new Mini anytime soon either. But I was also surprised when they introduced the 2018 model... so what do I know? ?

Anyway, I have been checking the refurb store regularly for the past two weeks and intend to buy a 2018 Mini when (if?) the model I want appears. Might take awhile, but I'm not in any hurry.

”New” under the Mac Mini icon in the Apple store is perpetuating the notion that there is a 2020 Mac Mini. Some Apple retailers are also advertising them as the 2020 Mac Mini. I guess if Apple ups the memory configurations the Mac Mini next year they will put “New” under it again and it will be referred to as the 2021 Mac Mini. Better yet, how about a new color for 2022. Kind of like those watch bands.

TBH for Apple to even bump the storage on the Mini is big for them. They haven't had a regular release cycle for this machine for 13 years, I'm truly surprised they still bother.

Indeed, but the reason is probably just that they ran out of 128Gb SSD modules and found it would be more expensive to find a new source rather than just pay an intern to add the "new" banner on the Mac Mini website. ;)

I heard that it will first show up on the MacBook Air, and the new iMacs (with bigger screens). Time will tell.

Doubt that the will be a new Mac Mini at the WWDC. However, given the more user/consumer friendly updates to other products in the line-up of late, I reckon there is one in the offing.
No.
Not happening.

Maybe October 2021.
But nothing before then.
I could be wrong.
Could well be wrong.... could well be that the increased storage is just a teaser, could be later this year, or early next, though maybe that is just wishful thinking......
I don't think so. Considering Apple took 4 years to update this thing I'd say we're almost about mid cycle. Expect one in 2022/2024.

Updates to the Mac Mini have happened at irregular intervals in the 15 years since it arrived on the scene in 2005. Nothing cyclical about the pattern of updates at all.

Apple averages about 3 to 4 years to update Mac mini, since they they just updated the internals, chances to see anything soon is probably null.

Well I guess if there isnt one at wwdc then i will buy one right after the event
I REALLY doubt Apple would update the SSD sizes three months before introducing a completely new model. I would just buy now if I were you, if you need it.

My personal guess is april, next year. Which I will likely then buy.

Didnt they just release a 16" mbp a few months after the 15"?

Given that there have been 10 generations (plus a few minor updates) of the Mac Mini over the 15 years since it arrived on the scene, Apple averages about one and a half years to update the Mini.

My guess is Apple is going to run this late 2018 model with the SSD bump until the end. But who knows they might surprise us.

I believe we are waiting on 11th gen with the new iGPU before wee'll get something worth upgrading too. The current mini won't get anything measurable out of the 10th gen CPU.

Doesnt 10th gen offer quite a big igpu bump? Also the update would allow it to have xdr support
