I leave my MBP nude also.
If i bought a mercedes, I wouldn't attach a protective tarp over the front bumper - completely undermines the beauty of the machine.

Thank you, finally someone who understands what I'm trying to say. I take my computer in and out of its sleeve countless times each day and *knock on wood* it has been fine. Same with my iphone 4, I don't use any type of case on that either. The ONLY situation where a case is useful is to cover up a laptop that has been greatly damaged, but is still working internally.

If you live with your sister who has a crazy boston terrier who scratches at anything, and has a grabby 3 year old... definately go with the speck case. My sister's dog got two scratches on the case because she was trying to get the :apple: logo. At least it's not on my macbook pro.

I would, infact I own a 2010 BMW 535i that I wish I could wrap some sort of protective covering around it so when people park their cars next to mine I don't have to be so upset about door dings or shopping cart scratches.

So are you saying that you feel 100% confident that your macbook will never become damaged due to transporting in/out of bags and places? Apparently not since you had to "knock on wood". Some people like the piece of mind of having an added protection on their investment. Myself included.

I don't need it to be protected. I use it more as a desktop computer. It's transported to and from work every day in my briefcase, and outside of that, it's not at risk of anything to the point where I'd need a case.

He answered the OP's 1st question: if he uses a case and why/why not.

The area where my palms rest while typing or using the track pad is wearing off pretty badly on my MBP haha. Battle wounds are nothing to be ashamed of just shows that your MBP gets alot of use and is still kicking. Its like a little kid with a beat up old teddy bear nothing wrong with it being beat up just means its been well loved :)

Naked. Never believed in cases for laptops, it just seems weird to me. Storage sleeves/bags yes...cases...why?

I installed wrapsol on my new 17" MBC the other day. It took a bit to get "right" when applying. I even started a thread about it, but it's on OK now. Not perfect, but it's on. I think it's a good guard against "light" scratches, but I'd rather have something with more protection. The Speck plastic that snaps in seems much better. Plus I believe it protects the sides, which the wrapsol doesn't do. I don't carry mine around on a daily basis, so adding weight isn't an issue. I could see weight being an issue for some though. I'd love to see a Speck in person. Clear only. I can't see getting a colored protective case. It's a hell of a great looking piece of aluminum on it's own. My opinion is why change that?

On a side note, I bought a $1000 HP 17" laptop from Costco. No sort of protection of any sorts. It died on day 88 so I was able to return it no questions asked. When they took it out of the box, it was WAY more worn and scratched than I ever thought while on my lap. Being an HP, I didn't really care. But after only 3 months, it definitely showed some wear and tear. I paid twice as much for my MBP and it looks a thousand times better than the HP. So heck yea I'm going to protect it. That opinion may fade over time, but as a new owner, I want to protect my machine as much as possible. Different strokes for different folks I guess!!

I wish I would have known about the Speck first. I would have tried that before the wrapsol for sure. Oh well.

It took me about 2 month to decide between hard case or adhesive. I finally caved in and installed Wrapsol on mine. Im a light user plus Im very careful with my Mac so I only need to protect him from minor scuffs and scratches. As of Wrapsol, this product is fantastic! I was able to stretch it so its invisible on the top and bottom. The only give away is the screw cutouts on the bottom. Otherwise the exterior is as good as original. My wrist pad didnt come out as flawless but it will work.

lol thanks I sent this nonsense post to incase and speck and they decided to stop manufacturing hardcases. Also, I appreciate you telling me (and others) why we bought our macbook pros, because (external) asthetics are really the only thing the mbp has going for it.

just kidding.

A hard case would have prevented this. You can deny it all you want, but don't forget. These computers are made out of aluminum, not plastic. Aluminum dents. Plastic either chips, cracks, or absorbs the impact.

oh and if you think sleeves will offer much well...

enjoy : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/785540/

How did you get the dent?
