People that don't like to use simple slim protection due to wanting a "better feel" are the types to end up with real-life surprise pregnancies :p

Really, with the amount of good looking super-slim cases out there, theres no reason not to have some protection.

I hate casing up a phone. Especially when they advertise color or thinness... It kills me. Just get insurance.

I guarantee you'll spend 100-200$ in crappy life proof cases and otter boxes in the next year anyways.

Um are we comparing phone cases to condoms? Laaamme.

I thought it was quite clever :)

Yes, always have and will. Unless you literally baby your phone and only set it on soft surfaces (which isnt likely) you are prone to get scuffs and scratches on the back rather easily on the 5 and 5s. Of course dropping it will do some damage too. Not only will cosmetic damage make you sad, it will drop the value of your phone when you go to sell it.

only case I consider is a mophie battery case,

and it's only on half the time, the rest of the time i go commando

Never. Cases are ridiculous. No one cares if your phone has a scuff mark or scratch. No one. Nor does it matter, ever.

"Oh, what about resale value." The money you theoretically gain from having a "flawless" iPhone just went out the window when you bought the case. Further, the extra $50 you get three years from now for having less marks -- unquestionably not worth lugging around some stupid case.

I can guarantee you that an iPhone with dents, dings and/or scratches all over the back will sell for much less than an iPhone in perfect condition. $100-$150 less at least.

I chose Other.

I have a BookBook case which I use because I like the wallet/case concept. It's my everyday "case". Less stuff in my pockets.

At the gym or if I'm doing something outdoors, I'll use a simple case like the Magpul Field Case. Really basic protection, not necessarily against drops, but against moisture. Moisture from sweat, condensation from water bottles, etc. Also provides better grip since I happen to run with it in one hand.

But when I'm home, the phone is naked.

If the iPhone can't stand up to everyday wear and tear without a condom, I don't want it.

All cell phone cases look stupid. All. So do those ridiculous plastic "screen protectors," I've never seen a bigger waste of time or money, they don't protect a damn thing. I've never used any of it, and my phone works perfectly fine.

As much as I agree about cases looking stupid, I just wouldn't buy a phone thats got scuffs and marks. But since you implied just a scuff or a mark (singular) I definitely wouldn't care.

I can't stand to see such beautiful built phones covered up by those otter cases or whatever. So damn bulky and fugly. Of course, this is just my opinion :)

Some people add cases for personalization. And some, like myself, have OCD when it comes down to their precious electronics. Another reason people use cases is for resell value like I do every year. I hardly spend any money when I upgrade iPhones every year because I keep my device in pristine condition all year long.Everyone has different opinions about cases and rocking it "naked" and thats cool ;)

P.S I use a very thin clear case. Don't hide the beauty of the design.

I work with cell phones, I sell and activate and see damaged ones all day long and I guarantee, those people that solely rely on cases are screwing themselves. I'd rather have my insurance and if I wana resell the phone and it ends up looking pretty awful, to break it and get a new one then resell it.

But an iPhones an iPhones an iphone and people will buy it if they want it. But if I can say anything to a person about cases is spend extra money for insurance and just use the case for cute factor. It'll save you a whole heap of worry.

I've seen "lifeproof" phones smashed, water damaged and just not working. There's no case that will be foolproof.

This only confirms it's totally not worth it. After you deduct the price of the case, a single Benjamin simply is not worth the time, effort or expense of babying a freaking phone for two years, if not longer.

Phone = fungible device, not a piece of art or heirloom.

Now this is smart. Stop wasting time babying your phones or wasting money on cases -- such a waste of time, and you'll never recoup in dollars all the time and money wasted babying it.

I love this insurance idea though. Brilliant.

I spent $6.31 total for a case (included tax & shipping) that is slim and very protective.

More than worth it to save not only $100 in resale value but also pride of ownership since I tend to take care of the things I own instead of treating them like toys I can just throw around.

I baby my phone. Always. That includes only setting it on soft surfaces (eg. I have a small cloth on my bedside nightstand where it sits for the night, etc). I dedicate my front left pocket for my phone; nothing else goes in there. Nothing. There are only three things my iPhones rest on: a soft surface, the inside of my otherwise empty pocket, and my hand. Oh, and of course I don't let it fall to the ground.

No scratches. No dings. No cracked screens. No fifty dollar case around my eight hundred dollar device. I get to enjoy the cosmetics of the phone and its world-class esthetic directly, every day, and it's the only way I carry. It's an iPhone, for crying out loud, not a rickety plastic android.

Yes, I use minimalistic cases for my phones ( protecting from scratches ), sometimes I go caseless :D.

I buy a bunch of cases every year; use them for a few days maybe a week or so. Then I take it off and realize I prefer going nude.

This time I bought the red and the black leather case for the 5s. Used it for about 3 days, now I'm going naked again. Just dinged the top of my phone this morning, and I don't even care.

My case only cost $22. Ive personally seen an iphone 5 crack falling about 2 feet from the arm of a couch to a hardwood floor. A $20 case sure beats having to pay for a new phone and the hassle of setting it up all over again or worse yet, losing money when you go to resell a messed up phone. Even on Craigslist, first question most people ask about your phone, even after seeing pics is what condition its in. iPhone are a dime a dozen on CL and Ebay, people can afford to be picky and they arent looking for dented, scuffed or cracked iPhones.

I do use a case but not a screen protector. The only reason I use a case is because when the phone is naked I find it quite slippery and easy to drop.
