I might try the apple case this time, just because it's leather, but I think most people go about the case thing backwards. I have always enjoyed my phone caseless until it is beat to hell, and then I put it in a case to cover all that up. What is the point of covering up a brand new phone?

No, I don't see the point in covering up the 5c as I bought the green one for its color :).

Never used a case. I want to experience the feel of the phone as it was designed. Just feels so much better without a case. Just upgraded from 4S to 5S and they gave me $210 for my 4S. It was in near perfect condition after 2 years use without a case.

Definitely use a case. I upgrade every year so resale value is important. Yes, scratches will lower the resale value. I used to be a phone dealer and saw tons of cracked screens and other issues. When I briefly went without a case, I found myself too stressed and worried about dropping it or even putting on a table. Now with the case, which by the way is a thin $10 Diztronic case I can use my phone without having to worry about anything. It's a very thin case and does an amazing job at protecting the phone from drops. No matter how careful you are, you are bound to drop the phone. I'd rather not think about it so a case to me is a must.

Ever cracked a screen?

I've never used a case and I cracked a screen once (original iphone).

This is the way I see it. Excluding my 5S (since it's so recent), I have owned 5 iPhones. I cracked one and it still worked. At the end of the day, I was out maybe $100 when I sold it to buy the 3G.

Now, I could have spent $20-$30 for a case for each of my phones to prevent a cracked screen, but over the life of my 5 previous phones I would have spent as much or more on cases than I would have "saved".

In my opinion the iphone is the most beautiful smart phone in the world, so the case has an added cost to me. So it's never been worth it. If I crack it I'll replace the screen for $100 or roll with it and sell it to upgrade in less than a year.

Further, the extra $50 you get three years from now for having less marks -- unquestionably not worth lugging around some stupid case.

Anyone who spends that much on a case is nuts. Also cases don't have to be thick and bulky to be protective. I prefer TPU cases and usually buy a 6 pack in assorted colors for $5-$15 total. Something like this or this.

I know I'm a klutz and I've had at least half a dozen times that I've dropped an iPhone that would have definitely shattered them or dented them pretty badly if I didn't have it in a case.

I never had a case for my 3G or 4 (tried the free bumper they sent for 4 and took it off after a week, but for my 5S I decided to try out Apple's leather case. I like it so far except that the adaptor doesn't work with it. Will have to grind down the adaptor a little I guess.

I start out with a case when the phone is new. After 5-6 months I get brave and start to go naked. These phones are so beautiful it is a shame to cover them up but they are somewhat fragile.

With the 3G, had a couple of cases and love the Switcheasy Rebel. With the 4, I used a Crumpler pouch for a fair bit of the time or nothing at all – FWIW, I dropped it on at least three pavements (one of which was cobbled with no damage).

With the 5, I had a Spigen Crumena pouch, which looked lovely but started becoming very tatty after a couple of months and then started to fall apart – very disappointing… Currently, I have a Snugg pouch that I’ve liked but again, it’s started to fray.

I prefer pouches, but I’m not sure about another – the Crumpler one lasted the best and I like the brand so might give them another go. Although I’m not madly keen on cases, I do like the look of the Ibattz Mojo Refuel one (especially the way that the battery is removable) so might go with that….

Mophie Helium Blue. LTE destroys my battery, now I can make it through the day.

The choices are a bit vague. Yes I have and always will doesn't really apply to me, since several iPhones I never used case, but this one, I got an Apple 5S case and the black on black looks amazing.

EDIT: oops just saw option 3 haha. I need coffee.

I don't know where i fit in this equation.. I use a leather book-book wallet to carry it around, it also holds bank cards and ID, but I pull it out of the case every time I actually use it.

No. Skins only.

There's never been a case that has left me completely satisfied. I like using skins front and back and spectra wraps on the band.

I felt like this too, until I put on the Apple Case they just released. It's quite good!

I do the same. I got mine from Pad & Quill though, I always get compliments and asked where I got it from.

Well. the other problem with cases is not being compatible with certain accessories. Without a case, the options aren't as limited.

For instance - my pioneer stereo's 30 pin connector would not work with many of the cases made for the 4s. I have heard that the lightning connectors on a lot of accessories aren't long enough to reach through a case and plug in. Don't know if that's true or not.

Another issue for me is that the apple cases cover the entire phone except the screen, so you don't get to appreciate the phone...

Surprised this poll doesn't exist yet.
Many polls and threads on the topic, in the accessories forum, where this one belongs.

Word to the wise; it's best to say that you were unable to find a question/poll, rather than proclaiming it doesn't exist. If it's something you're surprised hasn't been asked, chances are it has.

Edit: I guess you are a mod? My bad

I'm not cool enough to forego a case in favor of looks.

Even with insurance or AppleCare or whatnot, I don't want the hassle of replacing a cracked phone.

Have a Speck PixelSkin HD on my iPhone 4. Apple sent it free after the antenna issue at launch.

Ordered a Spigen Tough Armor for new iPhone 5S, even though I hate the stupid cut-out in the back that reveals the Apple logo. What is the point of this?

Do not use a screen cover. Tried a Zagg once and threw it away after a week. It was far more smudged than the plain glass would be.

Good to know. Someone on here was recommending zagg last night and I was ready to pull the trigger but forget it now.

Case for me!! Until they make an armor or lifeproof for the 5s, I'll just use my 5 armor case on it.

I also don't believe in the cases that slide because they scratch the phones as well. When I go without the armor case, it has to be a case that covers all the buttons. I'm OCD about my electronics. I'd go nude if I had the Best Buy insurance, because there's no claim limit :p

Never. Cases are ridiculous. No one cares if your phone has a scuff mark or scratch. No one. Nor does it matter, ever.

"Oh, what about resale value." The money you theoretically gain from having a "flawless" iPhone just went out the window when you bought the case. Further, the extra $50 you get three years from now for having less marks -- unquestionably not worth lugging around some stupid case.

If the iPhone can't stand up to everyday wear and tear without a condom, I don't want it.

All cell phone cases look stupid. All. So do those ridiculous plastic "screen protectors," I've never seen a bigger waste of time or money, they don't protect a damn thing. I've never used any of it, and my phone works perfectly fine.

YMMV but a hiring manager for my previous employer gave preference to the candidate who didn't have a damaged phone. It came down to two candidates and the candidate in question forgot to silence their phone during the final interview/ walk through, took the phone out to silence it, manager noticed it was damaged and told me, afterwards, they were going to offer the job to the person without the damaged phone first.

Their reasoning was if that person didn't care enough about their personal tech, how could they be expected to care about the company's tech that would be issued to them?

While this seems stupid... I would totally think the same thing haha. It's like someone showing up to a job interview with their shirt untucked.

While nobody is perfect, it does seem like it's the same people who's screens are always shattered. They seem to miss the little details... For example remembering to silence your phone at an interview.
