I buy Nook and strip the DRM... once it's set up in Calibre it's drag-and-drop seamless, and you can set up a server so you can access your Calibre library in Stanza from the interwebs. You can do this with Kindle books, too.

You can't strip DRM in iBooks, as far as I know, and so I won't be using it. I'm not interested in a format that's not portable. What I am interested in is a format that I can pay for and then use on any device I like... which Nook and Kindle is, right now, albeit with some effort and legal risk, I guess.

Come on, publishers, learn from the record companies!

Stanza all the way..

I like iBooks even though it is a bit Winnie the pooh, however I do not need bells whistles and page turning to enjoy a book.

I will also point out that I have never bought nor borrowed an ebook....

PDF, .Lit, .Txt - Calibre = ePub - Dropbox - Goodreader - Open in Stanza.

Safari - Google (Book Name) Images - Save Image - Add image Via Stanza.

All in all I enjoy doing it this way.

Kindle App is great too

The Kindle app on the iPad is excellent - note taking is available and looking up things is easy

However - I don't know if buying books, on the iPad, using the Kindle app, is that easy? That I haven't tried

If you are into ebooks, sorry iPad, but Kindle is still the best way, especially for reading outside

I guess a lot of people prefer that Kindle has more books and works cross platform. Why doesn't apple allow iBooks on other tablets anyway?

I use both. I find with non apple epubs in iBooks, the iPad won't sync the location of my book with my iphone, but the iphone doesn't have any problems picking up the last location I was at on my iPad.

Odd.

I would love to use iBooks but without an iBookstore in Ireland still, I use Kindle on iPad.

I also own a Nook Color and a Nook 2011 which get predominant ebook attention.

As a device, no contest: the Kindle is a far nicer reading device. Lighter, more comfortable to hold and e-ink is fantastic.

However, there are times when I have my iPad with my but not my Kindle.

As an app on the iPad, I prefer iBook. I remove the DRM from my books and use Calibre to convert them so I have them in both .mobi and .epub formats and can read them on either device.

I export my school books to PDF then view in iBooks. Only gripe is that it goes by total page #'s and not actual PDF standard numbers i ii iii iv v vi 1 should not count as page #'s they should be just i of 360 or ii of 360 not 1 of 367 etc. Kind of messes up going to a "page number"

Yeh those dang Romans and Arabs really had it in for Apple from the get-go, it's obvious to me as well. Politicians of all eras have seemed unable to sit down and find consensus before all these little details like numbering systems and borders turn into some big hassle... ;)

Me, I use both iBooks and Kindle. When shopping, I look first for iBooks, then Kindle as I slightly prefer the iBooks reading experience. I love stashing PDFs of some magazine issues or pieces (from subscription archives) in iBooks and reading them on iPad, it's heaven.

I love iBooks because of the easy of use and the awesome interface.
However, iBooks store haven't got enough books at the moment compare with Kindle.

Not much of a book reader to begin with but I use iBook. It has a decent selection, it's apple made and it works. But I could see why you would use Kindle app over iBooks. If anything I use Dark Horse Comics app the most thanks to Mass Effect and Rage Comics. :)

Stanza and Tomes are much more configurable than ibooks or kindle. The only feature that makes Kindle useful is its ability to sync across platforms.

I was kinda surprised but glad that kindle has more votes. Shows that the cult of mac is not at all that culty.

But then again i would expect windows fans to choose the ipod over the zune

It's really a tough call. I guess it all comes down to whether or not you are going to give in to the Apple Eco system.

I wantd to like Kindle more, but Kindle for iPad has problems managing large libraries over 300 books. The sync slows and hangs in iTunes and the home screen on the Kindle app is bogged down. And there's no collections or search tool to find a book quickly.

If there is a solution to handle large libraries in Kindle for iPad, I'd use it more.

I find that if I read on iPad for more than four hours straight, I get slightly sore eyes and if I persist a light headache.
So for long sessions reading straight text ( e.g. novels ) I use Kindle.
For illustrated books, those with maps or diagrams etc. I find the iPad necessary.
