The username I'm using for this forum is recent. I've only used it on a few other forums. When I sign up for a site, I just go through a few usernames that I usually use, and pick the one that hasn't been taken already.

No, I think that makes it too easy for people to stalk you and find out your entire online identity (and possibly real identify) imo.
Excellent point, but I'm not that bothered about my privacy now I use the Internet more
I wouldn't say I have a monopoly, but I have a controlling share of at least 90 percent of the handle.

I use Rodimus Prime only here and I think it is what i will use around Apple related sites if I go anywhere else in the future.
I use another name almost everywhere else or a shorten version of my online handle. Now people who know me pretty well from other forums know how to spot me online or what I go by.
My normal online handle was created by taking yet another transformer I like and combining it with another word and since then it has taken on an entire new meaning.
So heh even my normal online handle relates back to this one. Just most people would never spot it.

Im slowly changing all of my usernames from a childish one I used to use to my new one. I only use rkmac on tech blogs and macrumors for my username though.
I use either bobr52 or bobr1952 most of the time--but sometimes I use spiritfox as well from WoW. So I guess I don't use the same one everywhere.
I don't use the same name accross the internet... If I sign up in a new board like this I take the first thing which comes into my mind as my new usename. Don't ask why I've chosen TigerTongue...
I usually use the same user name or some variation of this user name. It gets annoying when some places like Starcraft 2 has a character limit or doesn't allow the use of numbers. :/
I do have the good sense to keep a relatively separate legit business name for professional purposes from this one though it's about 2 or 3 degrees removed but fairly easily traceable back to this handle. As for the issue of cyberstalking I am getting better at that
