The people have spoken. Gotta give them what they want. I'm tired of seeing these sorry ass "When will the 3g ship" topics.

It makes no sense NOT to have one.

Sure it does. After ~2 seconds of thought, here are a few reasons why having both an iPad App and an iPhone App forum is at best a lateral move in terms of any "advantage"-

  • As mentioned by Doctor Q, more forums lead to confusion. People are already wholly incapable of posting the proper thread in the proper forum (iPad Accessories in the iPad forum, iPad Apps in the iPad forum, Site issues in the iPad forum *cough cough*, etc).
  • This in turn leads to more work for the administration, which is already busy enough managing the influx of new users and posts brought in by the iPad in addition to the duties moderating all of the other forums (believe it or not the iPad isn't the only Apple product that exists).
  • Going along with the "confusion" argument but significant enough to warrant a separate item, a great many apps are being modified to be Universal in order to function on both the iPhone and the iPad. Where do such apps belong? It's redundant to have two threads about the same app on two different forums.
  • There are alternative solutions or policies that can be enacted to both reduce confusion while keeping all of the App threads in the same place. For example, research the app yourself. Ask the developer to modify their post title with [iPad], [iPhone], or [Universal] (or something like that)- or ask the mods to do it.

Most of you seem to be under the impression that a separate forum is a be-all, end-all solution. While it might help a little, the complaints people have brought up here (confusion, "it's not that big of a deal to create another forum", "I want another forum") are either nonsensical or won't be solved.

I think a possibly better debate would be:

"What would you rather see more-- a front-facing camera or a back camera?"

mis-posting is not the fault of the forum.

as of right now its 162 for / 9 against.

if it was 60%/40% (or possibly even 70/30) I may be inclined to agree but 95/5 is saying something

I'm too lazy to read through two pages of replies to see if anyone wrote a defensible reason for voting 'No' but....jeez guys. Why not for crying out loud? Have you recently perused the entire list of subforums on this site?

Someone even just started a thread specifically asking about iPad app reviews.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/900295/

if the owners/mods want people going somewhere else for reviews, thereby taking eyeballs away from the adverts on this site, then that's the owners/mods choice.

seems a no-brainer to add an iPad App sub-forum

...with a random, poorly-worded statement that- unless you'd like to clarify- has no relevance.

you whine (want some cheese?) about people posting in the wrong place. not the forum's fault.

your next points argue against a subforum. if 95% WANT it then it's obvious (to me anyway and likely everyone else) that people want the subforum

clear enough for you?

"The forum" consists of its members. Members post in the wrong place, therefore in a way it is "the forum's fault." By adding more potential places for members to post out of place, more work is created for those who run the site.

I'm not disputing that people want an iPad app subforum. Never did.

yes!

Should have been up before the 3rd. :)

+1 let's hope there might be a change of heart sometime in the future because it's clear from the users of this forum what they would appreciate. :)
