I'd rather have no MacBook at all than have a retina at the moment. I just couldnt go back to that horrible chunky heavy design again. Couldnt care less about the screen.

I've sent back 6 rMBPs so far since they were released.

My first 2 had perfect uniformity in both screens, both samsung. The first had dead pixels, the 2nd had a bend hinge.

The 3 after all had yellow or pink tinting to either the top or sides of the screen, and the 6th one, which is still in my posession, has extremely bad light bleed, and pink tinting to the right, in addition to image retention (LG screen).

In all honesty, I'd have trouble reccommending this to anyone at the moment, much like the iPad 3rd gen.

Next year will be the time to invest, as the first gen issues will hopefully be sorted, as well as the improved haswell chips which will remove what little lag is left in mountain lion.

You're saying the rMBP has a horrible clunky design? Sorry you've had so many issues trying to find a perfect machine. It seems 30% of poll responders have had issues, half of them with regrets toward the purchase. Although this forum is no random sampling that's enough to convince many to forgo buying a rMBP for another generation.

Mine has been hassle-free. I'm glad I got the retina MBP.

I had a beautiful 15" hi res anti glare. I added a data doubler with an SSD and 750Gb storage drive. Decided I could not resist the rMBP. So, I sold my classic and bought a base model rmbp. I had nothing but trouble with it. Mostly the IR but also other items like wall paper never staying changed after reboot and the screen flickering. They sent it out and it was gone two weeks. Came back showing $1500 of repairs had been done. Unfortunately the machine was exactly as it had been before. No better. The Apple Store gave me a new machine but this time I selected the 512GB SSD. This one has a Samsung Screen so no IR however I wish I could change my darn wall paper. I think in retrospect I should have kept what I had but that is done and gone. I also have a base 11" MacBook Air which I spend a majority of my time one so go figure.

I think what he meant was that people who don't have $3000 to waste on a machine hate Apple for not making it more affordable, so they make **** up.

I thought it was quite obvious I was referring to flat out liars. Assuming everyone who answers a poll is being truthful, or even own the product in question is not good.

These polls mean nothing at all because there is no way to control it. Anyone can answer anything... you cannot take a web poll for good or for bad... its meaningless.

The future of computing?

We're still in the present, the technology inside one of these is what is available today. This product represents backwards thinking in terms of user upgradeability for a 'Pro' machine. It is a great design in terms of an engineering stand point but the guts for that price are no match to those available out there in other machines for much less. They may not look as eye catching but when the power truly reflects the price. This is a really fashionable conversation piece hands down!

I would have still liked to see all the sex appeal and power for an updated 17" MacBook Pro if there was an option to minus the retina display, I'm near sighted so all screens are equal to me. The best for retina are the smaller devices like the eyefad, eyefones and airs. Fifteen inch will never make sense to me because 7", 11", 13" and 17" make sense for portability and 27"+ makes sense for desktop.

Just me.

I just don't understand the use of 15" when there is 13" and 17" (2 inches larger than and 2 inches smaller than) a screen size is fail. Eleven inches is delicious, thirteen is optimal portability for every day tasks/enjoyment, while seventeen is superb for specialized productivity where the size is just right, any bigger and it would be pointless. If wanted to impress me and have all my money with the PRO line, they should have released the retina in 11, 13 and 17 inches. I've only ever seen maybe 4 people use a 15" laptop, everywhere I see people with eyefads and 11" airs. I want true power, performance and portability, so to me, that means 17".

Seventeen inches is a great amount of usable space inside for all that horsepower, because 15" just seems like half a$$ed from an engineering stand point.

if 17" is such a great size... wonder why it was only like 1% of all Macbook Pro sales before it simply stopped being made... Decked out 15"ers were sold waaaaay more than the 17s, and nearly the same machines with different screen sizes at a very close price.

Lets face reality discontinued it because they can't get over how the other guys came up with such thin/light/powerful 'ultrabooks', so they had to 'one up' all of them with this rmacbook. They can feed you figures all they like but at the end of the day it is just to distract you and to justify their idiotic move. Who 'really' knows how well sells, they could give you bogus figures and you'd still take their word for it.

So there are only 1.7% - um, that is still a LOT of professionals doing a lot of work with those machines, they are specialized workhorses and that is what the number reflects.

Get over that Intel copied the MacBook Air, called it Ultrabook, then basically paid companies to make some machines based on that design, and they all did it poorly? No, I think Apple was just laughing. It's more likely the cost that goes into designing and making the 17 just isn't worth the profit from the small number of sales, combined with the fact the want to go with a new retina design, but can't get high enough resolution panels mad to be "retina" at 17". It's possible a 17 will appear again in the future

given the number of complaints i've seen (and purchasers i've known) i am curious to know how many of you retina mbp owners wish you had just gone with a good 'ol hi-res 15" mbp and saved yourself the hassle of returns, replacements, repairs, and retina-scaling issues.

I'm honestly not seeing how you have came to such an absurd conclusion. It really is baffling. If you have any spare money in the bank, I'd recommend attending a few English classes.

the rmbp is nice but i couldn't justify the price for eye candy and not being able to upgrade certain aspects of the laptop. so i bought the 15" non retina macbook pro. i've already replaced the hard drive with a 750 gig version, so already i know that the rmbp wouldn't have been right for me. but if you don't care about ever upgrading your laptop, and you enjoy a high resolution display, then you should get the rmbp.
