Apple met the Standard from beginning because this new standard is to limit the variety of chargers to make them reusable no matter what phone you currently use. If you build a Charger with USB output - you could easily plug in every USB to whateverphone cable you like. I think Apple just did that.

The only con is that you still have to carry around the cable... but in the end, you have to lug around the charger as well, so the cable wont be the problem.

... I do not know Micro USB User ... as well ;)

Just because the phone has to be compatible with Micro USB doesn't mean the iPhone will have one, Apple are far more likely to just include an adaptor.

Also, Micro USB is ugly.

What? Then how is dock connector beautiful?

At this point I think the bigger issue is Apple only supplying white earbuds with black phones :p

I'll go out on a limb and say that Apple will continue to use the dock connector until Apple is ready for a line-up wide switch to Light Peak. Might integrate an inductive charging option before then, but that wouldn't impact the ports.

Hahaha weird that you mention that. Earlier today when I was looking for more cables on eBay, I was thinking to myself that Apple should make black USB cables and black headphone for the black iPhone. :D

I also thought it was funny yesterday when I got my new iP4 that the box is white, unlike previous iPhones, but there's still no white iP4 available.

My advice to Apple would be to design a microUSB port in the side and still keep the iPhone connector for now as a transitional phase on the next generation iPhone to be released. That way for charging needs, users can use a standard microUSB charger and for serious multimedia and sync needs the proprietary connector could still be used.

It's about time, the Apple dock connector is so stupid compared to micro-USB. The Apple dock connector is such a waste of space, it is ginormous and is proprietary for the sake of being proprietary. Virtually every other phone on the market uses either mini or micro USB, which are the logical choices. But I bet you Apple will renegade from it's promise.....

They won't change the 30 pin dock connector.

They will simply add an accessorie in the box. ( micro usb adapter)

OP why are you so butthurt and ignoring the multiple advantages of the 30-pin connector over micro-usb? THERES 30 PINS FOR A REASON.

Most of us have plenty of cables and accessories laying around.

I don't understand this -- if people are so offended by the 30 pin dock connector, why just not use apple products? It's so simple.

Because this all started with the EU wanting a standard charging interface. If the EU ends up mandating it (ie a requirement with penalties if you dont) then Apple would have to stop selling the iphone in Europe.

Its so simple!:)

Well, here is my bias. I don't want them to change the connector cause I already have enough accessories for the iphone that I wouldn't want to rebuy again. Mainly the mod I did to my car radio that allows me to connect the iphone to my car radio and control it through the car radio and charge it too.

I think the only people who would really want it to change are those who don't already have the iphone and accessories.

Oh, and I have way more cords with the proprietary connector than USB cords... I think I may have one USB cord (I only need it for my camera I don't use anymore cause my iphone is more convenient cause it is on me when I get a picture opportunity).

To stop selling the iPhone in the European market could be an economic blunder for Apple since Europe is economically powerful and the EU has number 1 GDP. Why would Apple throw the European market away for an adaption of a charging standard, I mean I know there are other markets such as China where Apple could succeed but I personally see innovation in a microUSB standard and saving resources.

Oh good, one of the Apple fanboi's have arrived.

Apple screws me over by requiring me to re-buy charging cords (ie: for car, extra for for work, etc....) when I have usb ones that work with everything else.

And you don't even have the right idea of what I'm saying based on your "To comply with the proposed EU standard, all Apple has to do is change the cable, or provide a USB to Mini or Micro USB adaptor."

I'm saying "GET RID OF THE APPLE DOCK CONNECTOR FOR GOOD".

Woo, I'm a fanboi. How exactly is Apple requiring you to buy new cords for charging in the car, work etc when the freaking cord included with the iPhone ends in a USB-A connector? Because you have a ton of USB-A to mini-USB cords that came with your other devices? You know you paid for those. The are not "Free." When you bought a device that included them, you paid for them.

You want the iPhone to have a mini USB port in the side of it, I get that, but that is not what the EU law proposes, it proposes a mini USB at one end, so that power bricks will have a mini USB outlet. How is that any different than what Apple supplies now with a USB to dock cable with a power brick that has a USB port in it? Hell, the Windows Mobile phone I got before the iPhone was released only came with a brick to mini USB connector to charge it. At least when I got my iPhone 3GS, I could use the dock cable with a computer, the included brick or my car 12v outlet adaptor that has a USB port on it.

Dude, I actually see your point, I would love to be able to charge my iPhone directly with a mini USB cable, as I do have a ton of those laying around, but really, the USB-A cable to dock connector is not going away. I bit the bullet and bought like 5 of them so that I have one in my knife bag, my laptop bag, my car, my house, my restaurant, with my Sanyo battery reserve...

Now that I gave the 3GS to my girlfriend, and I have the iPhone 4, it makes keeping both of them charged when we are out and about, camping, hunting, working etc much easier. It is still USB-A at the other end, and that is really more universal than mini USB.

I like the dock connector and hope it sicks around. I love being able to dock my iPhone into my Speakers and alarm clock and have it play my tunes in the morning.

If people hate the dock to each their own but i don't go around calling people Fanboys just because people like what they like. :)

I'm Thinking May - June we will know 100% when either someone leaves one in a bar or Stevie tells us! I honestly Doubt they get rid of it 100% kills to many accessory's. personally I love to see the add a HDMI port at least a Micro one.
