I hide mine, and it's on the left side of the screen. 15" MBP...

being wide screen, I need all the vertical realestate I can get, so yeah, it sits on the left.. hidden.

MB: not hidden but to the right side and very small

24" iMac: not hidden, to the left side on the smaller 19" screen i have as an extended desktop. Lots o' room.

I like to see what apps are on at any given time.

I turned it off last night, but I can't stand it...I guess I really need the dock, especially for mail and chat indicators. I never really felt like it was taking up too much space before, but I did shrink it down a little more.

I like mine hidden.. I half to admit I also use windows because I'm a 3d artist and crossover doesn't support 3d max yet.. Or any other program with native speed since I can't waste any umph.. Anyways.. I used to use the quick launch side bar but since in Windows vista I don't anymore. I couldn't figure out a way to do it. Anyways.. In the vista the quick launch works much better next to the start menu.. You can do "Windows + 1 (First icon)" or + 2 (second icon) and that comes in very handy..

Mine's visible most of the time for web browsing, adium, itunes (the usual stuff) because it just doesn't feel right when it's not there. I don't see the tiny amount of space it takes up as an issue even on my 14 inch screen. I also find it visually appealing.

The only time I turn hiding on is for final cut when the extra screen real estate can actually be put to good use.

I have the dock pinned to the bottom on the right side of my 12" screen. I don't need all the horizontal space for windows and I use expose to switch, so I don't think I'm sacrificing space I would otherwise use.

I only keep things in the dock that give me info I want to see, such as Mail, RSS, iCal, Activity Monitor (CPU), and I like to be able to see it without moving the mouse over there.

Spicyapple/Generations

Me too! I loves me nekkid and minimalist at one point.

But it was a bit too frosty for me, so I turned Dock hiding off and turned on Menubars, again. Now I am a happy summer camper. :)

Sorry to ask this question here, but I can not find any other way of contact spicyapple to ask her how she made that video. Specifically, how she made those old photos seem to move. Was that After Effects? IS that just two or three layers?

Again sorry to post this here. I know this is not the place. But, I am trying to scan and build a DVD of old fmaily photos from early 1900's. Plain slideshows are just so boring and thought that would be a amazing way of getting my family excited to see that kind of life added to the old pictures.

Thanks and apologies.

17" PB, and I keep mine off for screen room. Plus it just looks awesome the way it pops up and magnifies at the same time.

Hidden with slight magnification. It takes up too much screen space, and with QuickSilver installed, I hardly use it.

I prefer to have it visible (at the bottom) that way you dont have the daft thing popping up if you accidentally move your mouse to the bottom of the screen.
At least while you can see it ........ er, you know exactly where it is

Originally I used auto-hide, but I found I preferred to see what apps were running, so I made the dock always visible. My current dock preferences are right side of the screen (because that has the fewest conflicts with how I work, and makes sense with a widescreen display), magnification off (because there are some visual glitches with magnification), and only a handful of apps on the dock (I use Spotlight to launch things I use infrequently).

I for the time being, have mine full of apps and links at the moment visible. I'll switch to it being hidden from time to time, but I still go back to having it there.

Hidden and magnified. First thing I set whenever I get a new Mac. I just think it's slicker and more functional that way for the way I use a computer.

showing at the bottom but small with magnification.

i have no icons on it though (apart from finder and trash), unless something is running. this makes it easy to see what is running.

On a big sceen, I keep it up. On a smaller screen I have it down.

Although on intel Mac's I have it down because the dock seems to hide/unhide much quicker and smoother, for some strange reason.

always showing, anchored to the bottom-left corner, very small with a lot of magnification. It's also transparent.

I kkep it hidden on my MacBook just to preserve screen space, but fully visible (bottom/middle - medium magnification) on my 20" iMac.

I have a 20" iMac G5, and I keep my dock visible, with magnification turned off. My reasoning is that, since I switch apps by clicking the dock icon (probably a bad habit picked up from my sporadic Windows usage), I want to see what I'm clicking on.
