You americans are such wusses. 12 inches, and you cancel flights are abandon vehicules over that ? Wow, cry me a river. Weather services here announced 2 inches back in the beginning of December. It turned into 16 inches by the time it had fallen. Everyone got home at most 30 minutes late, no buses/trains/flights were cancelled, no one abandonned their cars or anything and the next morning roads were already cleared of snow.

You guys really need to man up a bit, it's just frozen water. It's easy to push out of your way.

I grew up in Georgia. I can drive in the snow better than most of the yahoos here. It's easy.

You're probably a snow bird in Hallandale, wearing a white belt and on your way to early bird dinner. :D

Living at quite high altitude for southern new England we got about 15" of fine, light powdery snow. It was single digits before the windchill which felt like double digits below zero. The big wind and light snow was a real problem today—major drifting, whiteout all day. Driving to work I had to ford through a foot of crud in the wrong lane with 5 foot drifts in the other lane and zero visibility. My car is a champ in the snow, though. I took it for some some sliding and donut fun in a huge empty parking lot after work—gotta love it!

You measure everything in cm... 16 cm is no big deal.

Yeah, I converted to inches, we got 40 cm in early december. And we always close down schools, even if there's just a bit of rain, it's called an excuse to go out and enjoy the day.

And no, I don't go to florida in winter, I'm into the Ski season big time.

Abandoned cars... sheesh.

December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse

December 2010 Blizzard Timelapse. Canon DLSR on tripod with remote timer taking a photo once every five minutes.
Approximately 20 hours in 40 seconds.

Thought this looked kinda cool, time-lapses are always fun.

Kinda makes all the snow we had in the UK look pretty crap... All that fuss over nothing, you guys got it bad.

Another great Vimeo video :) I love the stuff on there. It might be a bit too 'artsy' for some people but I like it.

Yeah, the UK really ground to a halt, didn't it ;)

I found out, in emailing a neighbor, that they already dug us out. The warm weather certainly shrunk the level of snow a bit, but it was awfully nice of them. I picked up a case of Sam Adams for them :)

All the snow will be gone by tomorrow evening anyhow, we're expecting high 40s and rain starting this evening.

Too much snow around here. Snow banks are over 3 feet.

The temps were in the 40s yesterday, will be the same today and tomorrow. Still there will be plenty of snow

It depends upon where you live and how much snow removal equipment you have. I've lived the last 20 years in Minnesota and 12" is nothing. Don't try to lead me into believing that flights in and out of Canada never get canceled due to weather. I know better. :p

Never for days on end.

Exactly. In Colorado we measure snow in feet, not inches. :D ;) It also depends on if the roads are ice. Unless you have tire chains you can forget about driving on that.

Also, it doesn't matter where you are in the world with respect to flying. If the weather is bad you can't fly (or shouldn't).

Knight speaks the truth.... Vancouver airport went for months and months and months without any snow delays at all .... last summer.

People forget that there is a part of Canada where we handle the snow like the Brits. Where people start going home from work early at first sign of flakes. I grew up in Ontario, and learned to drive there. It's almost embarrassing to live in place were 5 cm (2 inches) of snow brings everything to standstill..... On the other hand we grew palm trees here (outside).

And on the 3rd hand, when it does snow here.... it can snow and snow and snow. Both Vancouver and Victoria have, on occasion, received snowfalls in the 1m+ (3 ft) range .... and despite having virtually no snow removal equipment we didn't call in the Army (Looking at you, Toronto :) ).

Happy New Year....

Wild. We're down to 6" after yesterday and today and tomorrow should take care that.

I get out to MSP a few times a year. For whatever reason January is a popular month. Nothing like -25ºC when you're dressed like it's 15ºC! Yikes!

Perhaps I should talk to my company about implementing some sort of 'balls cold override'. :p

To be fair to Mn, most of the Winter is in the 20's F° range (-2 to -6°C) very comfortable as long as the wind is not howling. But I always hear people getting off the plane in Jan wondering how anyone could live here (Mn). :)

You just stayed tucked in your cabin? Vancouver is so mild I assume it all melted post haste. ;)
