Many tend to have deteriorating eyesight due to age around late twenties or thirties.

How about getting the non pro model phone and being a “pro” human being in spite of the lower Apple status?Only if I decide to upgrade from my 11, and don't decide to go back to Pro. My options are either the 6.1" Pro, or the 5.4" non pro.

I am not interested in spending $1k on a phone anymore. If some want to see me as a peasant, even though I can easily afford any Apple Product fully specked I want, so be it.Non pro will be a peasant phone.

Ageing eyes. I hear it a lot. I wonder if these people realise there are these new-fangled things called glasses or contact lenses that can help? I am over 60 and mostly wear contact lenses. I have a monovision prescription where I wear a reading lens in my dominant eye and a distance vision lens in the other. My brain sorts it all out and I can read clearly and see in the distance clearly. On the occasions I need to wear glasses I have varifocals which again allow me to focus from near to far. Small screens really shouldn't be a problem. I've never understood why they are? If people can't see clearly a large fuzzy display must look awful.
I too wear progressive lenses all the time and use my iPad Pro as my main device. I try and use my SE (2020) for real basic phone use when possible, and a little light surfing when I don’t have my iPad with me. Without my glasses, the phone would be too small to read.l have aging or “aged” eyes and wear progressive lenses which give me excellent vision. I do however, find it more comfortable to read on a larger screen with a slightly larger font. The larger screen also gives me the option of checking a quick text or e-mail without putting my glasses on. The 11 Pro is perfect for me and my iPad Pro is more comfortable to use than the mini for the same reason.
Can’t answer for you but people buy smaller screens for better portability/easier handling. Why would I buy a smaller screen.
Only you would know the answer to that question in your case. I prefer a bigger screen too but I know an awful lot of people who have been desperate for a smaller iPhone to become available. I’ve had friends, family and colleagues moaning for years about how big phones have gotten and it’s clear there is a significant demand for the smaller option as well as the larger versions. Why would I buy a smaller screen. So no.
The 5.4" model is the only one that interests me.
My current phone is slightly smaller than the 11 Pro, and after 3 years I still find it awkward to use one-handed (the idea that I should change my usage to fit the device reminds me of the shoe company executive in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide saying that his henchman's problem was that his feet were the wrong size for his shoes). If I want a large screen I've other devices that do that better, so for me there's nothing about a large phone that outweighs the inconvenience it brings.
And I'm not some kid with 20:20 vision either: I'm wearing varifocal spectacles as I type this.
Yes, will be getting the iPhone 5.4" this year for sure.
Since the increases in size came in small, iterative updates (iPhone 5 > iPhone 6/7 > iPhone XS), I was okay with them but recently I noticed that the size of my iPhone XS just doesn't feel exactly how I want it to be. It's borderline pocketable (good without a case, not so great with an Apple Silicone Case) and I can use it well enough one-handed but comparing it to an iPhone 5S or iPhone 7 (which I happened to setup and use for different purposes lately) it just doesn't feel right.
Additionally, I have noticed that my iPhone screen time has really gotten out of hand. With the big display, I'm using it for surfing the web regularly, watching YouTube content and other applications that I used to do on my iPad or MacBook before. I don't really want that anymore. I want to use my iPhone as a phone, to stay in touch via iMessage or FaceTime, listen to Apple Music, to shoot photos and videos, or for small applications while on the run - I don't want it to be my main point of focus for a significant time of the day.
Getting the smaller, presumably 5.4" sized iPhone feels like a great opportunity to solve both of these problems and get back to what the iPhone used to be in my workflow. I would rather get the best tech in the smallest package but if they do not offer the iPhone Pro in this size anymore, I think I will be better off missing out on the Pro features than going for another size increase that I do not really want or make use of![]()
It’s pocketable but not comfortably pocketable if that makes sense.
Yep I agree being borderline pocketable somewhat with the likes of the XS. It’s pocketable but not comfortably pocketable if that makes sense. It’s only borderline pocketable without a case. Even with a Pitaka case which is very minimalistic it becomes not so pocketable.
Only time I use the laptop is for more serious games or if I need to edit office stuff or fill out long forms. Most read only I am fine with the 11PM.I’m kind of surprised people can get by with only a phone (or even an iPad mini). Never need to do any serious typing? Or never need desktop websites?
Yes this is exactly why I will probably do 6.1 Pro if I do upgrade. 11PM just fits in my pocket, so if they can't do something with the bezels and notch to keep the 6.7 Pro close to the 11PM, I am not going with it.Yep I agree being borderline pocketable somewhat with the likes of the XS.
