I gave up on keeping the cover of my MacBook looking nice. It is kind of dirty and has scratches all over it. I view it as my workhorse and take it everywhere with me.

I wouldn't be too bothered either, except I know I'll be selling it off in two years to buy myself a new notebook if I go to university so I'd like to keep it in good, sellable condition.

I bought my wife the last gen Blackbook to be sold last October and she prefers it over the unibody. I guess my only real complaint is the CCFL display. I am used to using my MBP everyday so when I switch to the Blackbook, I can never seem to get enough brightness or clarity out of it. If only Apple had introduced the led displays to the macbooks sooner.

I still use my Core Duo Black MacBook. I haven't upgraded to the unibody style because a) it still works wonderfully and b) I like the color.

Yea, I have a later model BlackBook and since I have maxed-out the upgrades for it, it's pretty darn capable. Quite difficult to justify the price for a new one right now.

I bought my blackbook (last generation) refurb. It was a bargain. I could have bought the newly released UMBs at the time, but I just don't like glass screens and won't compromise on Firewire. Plus I had wanted a black MB since 2006, it was my last chance to get one. Still love it.

I use my Black Mac book to test everything on. I have an OCZ Vertex 60gb hard drive running Snow Leopard. Once I am comfortable that the setup is running nicely there, I will reconfigure my 2.66Ghz uMBP. I also use the Black Book as one of my download machines for torrents.

I wish my Whitebook was black. This gets dirty WAY too easily.
Yep. I need to hose mine off every couple of weeks. I did buy a cheap $15 speck case for the outside though. After 6 months I finally took it off expecting to do some major scrubbing but low and behold... the exterior of my whitebook is still in mint condition.

To the OP's point... I looked for even a decent used blackbook before buying this one new. Not much luck. But you know as much as I hate cleaning this damned thing... the white is kinda growing on me.

My two babies....

Ha that is exactly what my friend and I look like when we sit next to each other with our macbooks. I have white and she has black. I always wanted the black one but I'm a college student and was short on money. Still want one!

I am using my black MacBook as my main computer most likely until Mac OS X 10.7 comes out. Then I'll get a 13 inch MacBook Pro in college.

What is a year-old used BlackBook going for right now, anyway? I love mine, and I gladly paid the extra for the look of it, but if I could get enough cash to get me close to a new white one, I probably would. The downgrade to 2.1ghz is worth the upgrade in video, since I use a lot of CS4 software, and I'd like to get away from the Mac Pro more often.

It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got..

I have a Late 2007 BlackBook (2.2GHz, Santa Rosa, GMA X3100) that I bought as a refurb at a pretty steep discount on the day the Early 2008 MacBooks came out.

I was extremely happy with this from a price/performance/size perspective when I got it and that hasn't changed one bit. The only changes since then were to upgrade the memory from 2GB to 4GB and a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive (about $120 total from NewEgg).

The main thing is that it still does everything today that it did on the day I bought it. :D It's easy to get caught up in chasing the new features, cases, etc. but the use I get out of this on a regular basis (used as both a laptop on-the-go and a desktop in clamshell-mode at home) has been fantastic. I could sell this today for around $300 less than I bought it for almost a year-and-a-half ago, in part because there is still demand for the black MacBooks (and it doesn't hurt that it's in really great shape). To me, that is real value.

If I do anything else, it'd be to add a mini as a second "desktop" at home so I can use my BlackBook on the sofa while my son plays games, listens to music, surfs the web, etc.

I think Apple should try to bring back the design.

The Black MacBook is so sexy. ;)

i love my blackbook :)

I just found a Blackbook 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD with Office '08 and CS3 online for $800... is this a good deal or should I just keep saving my pennies for one of the unibodies? (I'm not a Mac user... yet... I have a quad-core Dell)

That doesn't sound TOO bad.... I'd personally save a bit more though. It is older, and second hand, remember. However if Office and CS3 have been gotten legally, it sounds like a pretty good deal.

I actually have the $ for either... but something about dropping $1-2k at once frightens me! I want it for CS3 and eventually Logic (not happy about the expresscard removal since it makes my Firebox useless) ... but I'm aware the older one is not going to play anything like Sims 3 :(

There was a black MacBook appreciation thread earlier this year. I bought mine (refurbished) about 15 months ago and it is going great for me, really do like it a lot.

I am however tempted by a 15" MacBook Pro now the prices have come down. I will probably not buy one until after Snow Leopard is released. Will use it for intensive photo editing work and keep my MacBook for e-mailing and internet surfing.

I have a late 2007 BlackBook and I am still very happy with it. I am a use-it-til-it-dies type of guy, but my wife just got a Unibody and I am very impressed with it. It was the first time I've ever been tempted to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. But mine works perfectly fine and I'm hoping it will continue to do so for at least a few more years.
