I would take my iPad almost everywhere I went if I didn't feel like such a jerk for doing that. Every time I whip it out in public I feel like I'm making people believe that I'm just showing it off to brag that "I have an iPad." What's worse is that I'm in college so the student to iPad ratio is probably around 2000/1. Not good. I would love to be in the library reading a book off of it, but I just feel like an ass. Does this happen to anyone else?

No. And I mean NO.

The only thing I would sweat about is getting mugged.

As a matter of fact, the opposite is more real. People will think you are affluent and well educated.
But perhaps your college is strange, no? :D

I did in 2010 when they came out, but not these days, everyone had one tucked away somewhere at home.

iPads are cool don't get me wrong, but when I see people in class with them it does look kind of douchey. But just around campus or at the library I wouldn't worry about it. But that's just my .02

Lol nah - I carried mine around all the time. Will carry a mini around even more.

I do think people who use their iPads as cameras are funny though :p

Hmm, the word "douchey" perhaps is telling :D

Yes, people who use this term often should not own iPads. It's official :D

Yeah, I don't feel at all douche-tastic. Took it with us to bar and grill on Tuesday with an outside area, used it to keep up with email, gen up some development docs, it was all good.

Only those who would label you a jerk for doing this are jerks.

You paid good money for that thing. Use it to the max!

Just don't go taking photographs with it in public, mmkay?

Only if you use it as your shopping list in the supermarket. ;)

This x 1,000,000! I've been to two weddings and a Baptism in the past 3 months and while everyone else at the church and at the reception were snapping photos with iPhones, DSLRs, point-and-shoots, i saw a few people bust out an iPad to take photos and video. It was pretty weird and just drew attention.

Other than that, iPads out and about seem normal to me.

You are fine.

Over half of my graduate class have an iPad or some form of tablet.

That's unusual for the student/ipad ratio to be that low in your college...I would think it would be at 4/1. By the time I graduated from college in 2009, almost everyone at my university had the latest electronic device...our student union book store was an authorized apple retailer.

Sometimes I feel like this, especially in a lectures. People around me will have a laptop sometimes, sometimes they have a Nexus 7 or similar smaller android tablet.

Most of the time I feel weird because I know, if they wanted to, they'd be able to see what I was reading/playing because the iPads screen has really good viewing angles lol.

I don't like people watching me!

Baseball games are great - sat next to a couple and the chick was taking pics and videos with her iPad the whole time...was odd! lol

Dude, Maybe you should see your Doctor? Your in college, isn't it time that your juevos dropped? I use my ipad on the metro, on the bus, in the library, in my classes, and I do not feel like a jerk. I feel like I am using the right tool for the job. Get a grip on reality. What do you care what anyone thinks? Is the ipad a great device? yes! Then use it proudly.
