Funny you should mention that. IMO there is nothing more douchy than someone using one in public. People do come off as so showy when using them in meetings, coffee shops etc...

Sounds like someone is jealous.

Humans are so strange, if they don't have something that someone else has they always have to find a reason why it is stupid and have to justify it as the reason they don't have it.

Going to use my iPad in a lecture tomorrow for the first time. I'll update this post with my findings :D

I generally don't use it in public, mainly out of fear of having it snatched out of my hands.

Well, that's for work. Work is different.

It's a tool. Why would I care what anyone else thought about the tools I use. How could it possibly matter what someone thinks. I mean seriously, you have to be pretty shallow to even consider such things.

I would take my iPad almost everywhere I went if I didn't feel like such a jerk for doing that. Every time I whip it out in public I feel like I'm making people believe that I'm just showing it off to brag that "I have an iPad." What's worse is that I'm in college so the student to iPad ratio is probably around 2000/1. Not good. I would love to be in the library reading a book off of it, but I just feel like an ass. Does this happen to anyone else?

Why do you care what strangers think?

I wondering, are people equating douchey with geeky?
Or is this something more like pretentious?

It's not like it's 1980 pulling out the car phone while you're at a stop light so people can see you...

Rule of thumb, if its used anywhere a laptop is usually used then the setting i.e. work/school/lounge areas/waiting rooms etc is appropriate for such a device.

Places where your attention should be focused elsewhere i.e.
-Gym
-family resturant table
-super market etc
Looks silly, oh and pic taking and video recording looks reeeeaaallly jerkish like...

The only time I thought someone looked like a douche using one is when they are using both a MacBook and iPad and iPhone at the same time.

Congratulation you have an iPad... along with 100 million other people. It's an iPad not the hope diamond. No serious person is impressed someone owns an iPad. Me thinks you are a bit too self aware.

The problem is that the "whip it out and show it off" is part of new tech. So when the ipad came out everyone did that. Oooh, look, its an ipad, envy meeeeee....

But now that tablets are pretty common place, just about everywhere, dont feel like a douch. that is unless you act like a douche and are like "oh, we cant figure out the tip? I have an app for that ON MY IPAD" *looking around for everyone that heard it and is now jealous.

Yeah, dont be that guy.

I was on the train the other day and observed how everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was using Apple products!

I think a while back people may have thought you was showing off by whipping out your iPad, but now they are mainstream and therefore nothing special.

You see them everywhere ... I mean, look at how many TV shows use them for this or that.

Just use your iPad and don't worry about other people, mate.

Enjoy it ... that's what you bought it for ;)

When I first got it I did. But not anymore now that they are almost everywhere, I'm just cautious where I am to take it out of my bag.

Not brave enough to take a photo with it in public though lol :p

one thing that bugs me, and my dad does this, and its more of a general complaint about useless tech, but whatever....

he insists on flipping over the smart cover, unlocking the ipad, starting the remote app, to change songs on the appleTV when the remote is less than 2 feet away. Now this isnt doing a search, its literally to hit next track. So cool, you can do that, but really? is it necessery?

Btw: I wish I could take a photo with my iPad, just to see how it goes. But sadly, im rocking an iPad1 and Im afraid Ill get laughed at. lol

That's funny...Sounds like he really likes using it.
