What is the point of preserving them if they aren't going to be used? ;)

We'll quite. It reminds me of these:

Thanks for a great tip. The Home button on my iPhone 4 is starting to require a harder push or a second push. I have a Samsung Galaxie Note 3 because of the 5.7 inch screen, but the iPhone is my main phone.

If Apple brings out a 5 inch phone or larger, I will buy it.

With my iPad Air, i just use the 4 finger pinch to return to the Home screen.

I have a habit of playing with the silence button (switching it back in forth) never had an issue. I've done this on every phone since the 3g.

I only turn on assistive touch if a button stops working for me. I figure, why not use the button while it still works? Seems pointless to me to save it from use (which it was designed for) unless I want to preserve it for resale.

Does anyone else use AssistiveTouch to save wear and tear on their iPhone but...

I don't use assistive touch because I find the floating/transparent button annoying. I would only use the feature if my iPhone's physical button developed problems.

I can understand why iPhone 4/4S users would like this feature more, as the Home Buttons on the 4/4S seem to get mushy over time.

What's the point of not using buttons because they MIGHT wear out. I think this is kind of stupid.

Do You not start your car engine because it might break sometime? This is what it's made for...

Think about a workaround for a button when it's actually broken. Maybe it will never happen to you.

OK I'll Play

My i5 (out of warr. bought on launch day) power button only works on the far left side for some time now.

I have been tracking that thread re. the issue. It stays powered up until I use it carefully to power it down.

This is an area that the AT option could help me with but no joy using it for power in it down unless I am missing something.

I don't use it and I also never had problem with a dying home button, I don't know how people use their phones that complain of the button not working [I have seen some other people's iPhones with home buttons requiring replacement....however I have gone through every iPhone there is to date and never had one that had home button issue...let alone Volume or Power button issues....

I like using the home button and have no use for assistive touch.

Only time I "tried" to save my home button was when I was using the JB tweak Zypher, it was great being able to swipe out of apps or swipe into switcher but now I did not jailbreak my 5S and with iOS 7 having the control center on bottom, Zephyer would be harder to use or would require replacing the control center with another gesture that I would not be comfortable with.

It's kind of sad that any iPhone users even CONSIDER using that to make sure their buttons don't stop working within ~ one to two years… haha jeez. Sadly, I used to worry about my 5's buttons too.

I started using it and feels very convenient, though overall the assistive touch should be made customizable for frequently used tasks like lock screen and more gestures would be useful- wake up using double tap

I don't use it, but I've already had one home button replaced on my 5 because it got crunchy. It's starting to get that way again, but that's what AppleCare+ is for.

Just about every Chinese person I know does this.

They use AssistiveTouch and never use their home button.

I personally don't and have never had a home button fail on me. The power button however has failed a few times, but that's what warranty is for.

Why them in particular?

They can and do wear out. I've already repaired 3 iPhone 4S sleep buttons, one iPhone 4S Home button, and one iPhone 5 sleep button, and my sisters boyfriend has a 4 with a Sleep button that does not work. I don't run a business repairing phones; these phones I've repaired are just from close acquaintances/family and purely out of hobby. Sent from my iPhone 5.

I like to use it the way apple intends, and if they break, well, I've had a good experience for a while. None of the buttons on any of my iOS devices have ever broken.

Its a phone designed and built with buttons that are meant to be used daily end of.

That's like running barefoot so my sports shoes won't wear out. Sure, I could, but why would I?

Sports shoes are meant to serve as a layer of protection for your feet. They are meant to wear, and they serve their purpose. You can walk and run without shoes, but can you turn off/use home button without the Sleep and Home buttons? (other than with Assistive Touch - which cannot turn on the phone or turn it off, or put phone into DFU mode when needed)

Had to use it on my 4 after issues with home button. But because I got accustom to using it, I still use it on my 5.

Unfortunately it is the weak point on the Iphone. I had button failures on every iphone I owned except the present one which is only nine months old. I have used it with the two previous models after the failures.
