No matter what the situation is, going from something your body is use to do doing, to something significantly different, will always feel different. Once it becomes muscle memory it feels normal again, then if you use iPhone 4 after using the 5, that will feel heavy

It does feel super light almost like a cheap toy. Get a slim case and that will add some weight.

Heavier equals higher quality, huh? Wow. Congrats, you've just posted the most absolutely ridiculous thing I've EVER read on the MR forums, ever. And that's saying a lot.

This is like saying my pizza is too good or my sheets are too soft or my wife is too smokin' hot.

QC issues aside, there is nothing about the build quality of the iPhone 5 that, IMO, isn't superior to all previous models.

"It's too light..." I can't freakin' believe this is a thread. I would've sworn this was a trolling OP. if only we were so lucky....

Why are you getting your panties in a wad over the OP? He's not a troll. He just has an opinion on the weight of the new IP5. I happen to agree with him. Why are you so defensive?

Oh, and your analogies make no sense whatsoever. You are assuming that the #1 key to a good cell phone is the weight. That is simply not the case.

I thought it was too light at first also, but I got used to it and love it now. Even if the phone were lighter, it's still built more solid than any cheap plastic Android device.

Hyperbole much?

First of all this is in no way the most ridiculous thing posted here and you know it.

Secondly, heavier can give the perception of higher quality. My Seiko 5, which is not super luxurious, feels like a higher quality item than any plastic swatch watch I have ever owned. But this perception is subjective because the MacBook Air feels as high quality as the aluminum MacBook Pro. What furthers the subjective nature of this is which materials or combination of materials a person feels equate to higher quality. One person will feel that a glass and aluminum device is higher quality than an all aluminum product due to the rarer combination of glass and aluminum.

So to sum up, relax, its a perfectly acceptible opinion to something which is purely subjective.

After all the hype I expected it to feel lighter, it still has more than enough bulk for me. I'm happy with it as long as its not plastic. For me metal & glass= quality and yes its still a very obvious high quality feel.

It's really amazing how heavy and thick the iPhone 4 feels after using the iPhone 5 for 2 1/2 weeks. When the iPhone 4 came out, I can remember how amazingly thin and light it was.

This has to be the most ridiculous post I have EVER read. Simply mind-blowing.

So you'd prefer a brick in your pocket...?

I guess there's just no pleasing some people

A brick? The 5 is 28 grams lighter than the 4S. A gram is equivalent to the weight of a paperclip. So the 4S is 28 paperclips heavier than the 5. 28 paperclips doesn't weigh a lot.

If you think that because the 4S is 140 grams, that it's a brick...then you must have string beans for arms.

I love when people get the newest gadget and then rip on the predecessor because they NOW own the new one. Same crap every year.

BTW, the 4S could be compared to a brick, in that it's SOLID as a brick.

The 5 can bend, crack, warp, scratch, scuff. The 4S just has a back that can crack. And then you can replace the glass for about 10$, by removing two simple screws. Try doing that on a 5.

It's okay, I think months and months from now, when the iPhone 5's aren't looking to hot because of natural wear and tear, drops, falls, etc (especially on naked 5's) and my 4S is still in mint condition...people will retract certain statements made.

Not everyone wants a featherweight phone. Stop acting like just because the newest iPhone is light that it's superior to the rest of the pack.

Get off your high horses. I kept my 4S for a reason, just like you bought the 5 for a reason (mostly because you'll go crazy if you don't have the most current tech)

Anyways, I don't think the 5 is a bad phone. I think it was kind of rushed, and slopped together (hence the ridiculous QC issues). But that's also why I'm on the S cycle.

The 5 does feel cool in the hand. But I dont prefer it over the feel of the 4/4S.

So I guess you'd take a stainless steel watch over a platinum one any day cause it has a 'feeling of quality'

Hell yeah! I see you know very little about high end watches. A classic example is the Rolex Daytona, in Stainless steel. Extremely high demand, big waiting lists, while your can get a gold/white gold Daytona no issues, walk into most jewellers .

My favourite is the Rolex Deepsea, waterproof to 3900 metres. ;) 904L steel, 220 grams, yes a mans watch.

I would never buy an aluminium watch! nor would I but a platinum one, damn things are a magnet for scratches. All the ones I have are either Stainless steal or Ceramic. A watch that is ultra light..... you gotta be joking!, it feels cheap. I guess you have never owned a proper watch so would not understand how that weight equates to quality.

Anyway, what's your point, the Iphone 5 is made from Aluminium not platinum.

The lighter the better. Also, it won't fall nearly as hard when dropped.

This has to be the most ridiculous post I have EVER read. Simply mind-blowing.

Someone posted they think the cures for HIV/AIDS and cancer are being witheld by the government/big-pharmaceutical so they can control the population and make more money, but you think someone saying they feel the iphone 4/4s feel heavy now is the most ridiculous?

I thought the same for the 1st week after switching from 4s. Now it feels just right.

Agreed. At first it almost felt too light. After getting used to it when I pick up an iPhone 4/4S it feels like some 1980's brick phone lol

Dssd is honestly really heavy for an everyday watch. I'd prefer one of my jlc or a simple submariner would be better. Ive personally moved on to simpler watches Such as panerais just cause i maybe go diving Once a year. Platinum watches are okay but the nature of the metal makes it prone to dings and nicks.

iPhone 5 feels heavy to me still. Dropping it on my face the other night proved the weight to me #

1980s brick phone? Over exaggeration of the year!

1980s cell phones weighed 2+ lbs. A iPhone 4S weighs 140 grams. You my friend are a fool.

Go tell all your friends how cool you are now because your phone is so light!

And then show them how you can bend it with the strength of your own arms with it's soft aluminum.

You can't make a phone thinner and lighter without sacrificing strength and durability. I don't care how many of you guys think it feels "strong". Youll see over the course of 10 months, that it's new design has it's fallbacks.

I think the reason why everyone is creaming their pants over how light it is, because the 5 doesn't have that many positives/upgrades over the 4S so people are sticking to one thing they know for sure, "IT'S LIGHTER!" Congratulations.

I was actually expecting it to be lighter from the comments here before I got it but was surprised it's still weighty. Hold it at one end and wave in the air, it still has good weight to it and certainly not like holding a plastic utensil.

Most of you are exaggerating and you just need to get used to it.

My panties are always wadded before I drink coffee; I should know better than to get on here pre-caffeinated beverage. :)

However, I still defend the premise of my rant. IN MY OPINION, it is absolutely, positively, unequivocally ridiculous to complain that one's iPhone is too light. Two of the most vocal gripes pre-iPhone 5 were about its size & weight. And while I understand the postulation that "heavy = quality" I reject the implication that weight is the only factor. Anyone who has held & used the iPhone 5 for more than 10 minutes could feel that the precision and build quality are out-of-this-world; regardless of weight. I guess I'm just hypersensitive to the exorbitant amount of nit-picking & complaining these days.

As the purpose of this forum is to discuss & debate, I probably just need to get over it, but for the record, I still vehemently disagree that weight is in any shape or form an issue, problem, drawback, or that it cheapens the feel. :D

P.S. darngooddesign, it IS one of the most ridiculous posts I've read as of late, and I'm sorry, but I refuse to let someone else tell me otherwise.

I agree. The weight is perfect and it feels solid. I have an Air which is also thin/light but feels nice & solid. The iPhone 5 is just another example of good engineering.

Also.. the additional length of the iP5 spreads the weight out, makes it feel more balanced.. and gives an illusion of being lighter than it really is
