It Certainly Feels Cheap...

Feels as cheap & scratches up easier than any Android I've had.

Hello Apple?

It's time to quit coasting, spinning marketing mush, and apply yourselves.

Now is the time to innovate & execute ...

We _know_ you can do it.

Not wrong NATO and I Agree. Nothing wrong with the iPhone 4S slightly thicker and heavier feel to it. iPhone 5 with the same thickness/weight and having a slightly larger battery for longer talk/data time would be welcomed. ;)

What he said. At a certain point, I'd rather have the battery life than the weight/thickness savings. For me, that is probably right where the iPhone 5 is, but as I have spent little time with it (I am a "S" upgraded), I am not entirely sure.

+1. I compared at the store and was disappointed with the iPhone 5 feel. Felt flimsy and cheap, as though it could bend if it were carried in a tight pocket. Or could blow away in a stiff wind if not gripped tightly enough.

Does it bend easily? Haven't shopped it, yet. The plastic phones that many here claim are cheap-feeling can actually bend a bit, lending to the cheap claims.

Original iPhone - solid and weighty
3G/3GS - plasticky and cheap
4/4S - solid and weighty
5 - lighter but still more solid/exquisite than any plasticky Android

At least every other year is better than being plasticky all the time like your Androids.

I cannot believe anyone is complaining about the iPhone 5 feeling cheap. Are you people on some kind of medication?

This thing is completely solid, like a brick but much lighter.

Next thing we are going to have posts that the iPhone is too pretty, Apple needs to make it uglier to be a real phone.

I know how you feel. When I first got my iPhone 5, I felt the same way because I had my iPhone 4 for so long that I got used to the weight. I feel like I would accidentally fling my iPhone 5 when I pick it up. But now, I got used to how the iPhone 5 feels so when I pick up my friend's iPhone 4, it's like.. woah.... :D

Hell yeah! I see you know very little about high end watches. A classic example is the Rolex Daytona, in Stainless steel. Extremely high demand, big waiting lists, while your can get a gold/white gold Daytona no issues, walk into most jewellers .

My favourite is the Rolex Deepsea, waterproof to 3900 metres. ;) 904L steel, 220 grams, yes a mans watch.

I would never buy an aluminium watch! nor would I but a platinum one, damn things are a magnet for scratches. All the ones I have are either Stainless steal or Ceramic. A watch that is ultra light..... you gotta be joking!, it feels cheap. I guess you have never owned a proper watch so would not understand how that weight equates to quality.

Anyway, what's your point, the Iphone 5 is made from Aluminium not platinum.

I am actually the complete opposite for watches. I hate big bulky watches and would prefer to have something more slim that sits close to the wrist and doesn't bunch up my long sleeve shirts or jackets and doesn't feel like a 5 lb weight on my wrist.

something like this is what I prefer

Someone posted they think the cures for HIV/AIDS and cancer are being witheld by the government/big-pharmaceutical so they can control the population and make more money, but you think someone saying they feel the iphone 4/4s feel heavy now is the most ridiculous?

Yes, definitely.

Yes! I wish Apple would make a iPhone the size of a brick that weighed at least 5 lbs. or more. That would make me feel like I owned a good solid phone and that I got my moneys worth! :D

Man, who would want that? It doesn't have to be that heavy to feel like a quality phone does it?

Without plastics in your life you'd be in a world of hurt.

It's no longer 1960, perhaps you have no clue how advanced, strong, durable, and beneficial today's plastics are. That's the only reason for one to make a comment like yours.

Welcome to modern materials circa 2012 :)

I had the iPhone 3GS as of two years ago. Felt cheap to me and I don't think plastics have changed since then.

I see analogies are not lost on you at all

"Does anyone feel iPhone 5 too light?"

Not TOO light. When i first held mine, i was shocked how light it was. It was a pretty drastic change. It didnt bother me at all because it feels light and solid still. Quality. Not light and cheap.

I'm so used to it now, when i pick up my old 4S that i handed down to my fiance, i'm all Ewwwww.....Feels like a brick.

Its great, love it. Cant be without it.

The issue is my BSodomitor, its saying "Warning...Warning" ;)

Thats understandable. I have a few watches like that for more formal occasions, case a hefty watch does not play nice with formal dress shirts.

Though if you were used to having light watches and your favourite watch suddenly put on 100g it would feel awkward. This is the issue a number of us are going through when switching from the 4 to 5. The 5 is just so light :)

The irony, here, is that all these folks hating on plastics and polycarbonates, are the first ones to chime in to cover your fragile phone up with a case made of the very same materials.

I know being light is supposed to be a great feature of a smart phone. But heavier things makes you feel solid, iPhone 4 is just the right feel for me. Anyone else feeling this?

Lighter and thinner is better. I don't notice it as much when I'm walking around with it in my pants pocket compared to my 4. The only thing that took me a little while to get used to was typing with my thumbs (portrait mode)--the balance point is different than the 4, so I felt I could drop it if I wasn't careful. I'm over that now and I really like the 5.

Its not ironic. People are saying that having the entire casing made from plastic makes it feel cheap.

I'm reminded of the reviews a few months back on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Most places mentioned that the hardware felt cheap and plasticky. Noting that it had significant give and even creaked quite a bit.

I'm not denying that plastics-based materials can be strong and useful, just that it's difficult to make them feel sturdy and durable.

As taken from TechCrunch:
Build quality is typical Samsung — that is to say slim (8.89mm), light (1.31 lb.) and plasticky. When crafting the new Note tablet, Samsung was concerned about keeping its weight down so as not to make it too unwieldy when being held with one hand. They succeeded (as the usually do) on that front, but the decision isn’t without it’s drawbacks. There’s a bit of audible creaking to be heard if you apply a bit of pressure to the edges and there’s a considerable amount of give felt when pressing down on the (handsomely finished) back panel. Hardly the most confidence-inspiring construction you’ll ever come across in a tablet, but that’s just the price you’ll have to pay.
