I keep my old phones to use for more camera angles when I do youtube videos.

I love using the multicam editor in FCP to create really cool videos and the iPhone cameras always do a great job IMO.

Most sold which i bought but keeping iPhone SE and iPhone 6s plus for one more Year and adding iPhone 7 Jet black this year, love to keep all form factors which apple provides

I often keep them for development purposes, like to try and have at least one of each generation. But ultimately they just end up in a drawer and forgotten about as support for the devices is gradually dropped due to age.

Though I've started using the most recent victim of that, my old iPhone 4S as a streaming camera so I can keep an eye on my 3D printers. So I suppose if we try we can find use for them.

I'm selling my 6+ when my 7+ arrives though, I'll still have the wife's iPhone 6 so the cash I get for my 6+ will go in the kitty for buying next years phone.

Thanks for your help, everyone!!! I think I'm gonna go ahead and sell the 6.

I sell all of my old iPhones never keep them and sell them a few weeks out before the new phone comes out to maximize what I make.

I keep my 4s to serve as a:

1) backup phone
2) car music player
3) general ipod
4) spare camera
5) spare flashlight
6) car gps device

How do you use your 4s as a GPS? Assuming you don't have a data plan active? Unless your running it off a 'Hot 'Spot' on your current device?

Could be he uses an app. I have NAVIGON, not that it's used much. But it downloads the entire map files so it works without a connection or data plan at all.

I upgrade every other year, and my old device gets handed down to my girlfriend (who is generally happy with a newer phone for free). She's just got my 6, so I now have a spare 5. Really not sure what to do with it, as it's not in great condition after 4 years so probably worth very little. In the past, old phones have been given to other family members, but not sure there'll be much interest in a old 5. Most folk tend to have a smartphone now, when previously they might have still been using a basic mobile so a 3G or 4 was a reasonable upgrade.

Baby monitor/home security camera/add a speaker for a music streamer for when your showering/squirrel cam? :D

I initially decided to hang on to my iPhone 6...just in case I broke my new one or had a family member who needed a phone. Anyhow, I've recently taken up photography as a hobby and bought a pricey camera and I'm wondering if it's silly to hold on to this 6 instead of selling it and putting the $$ towards my new hobby. What do you all think?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Always keep my immediate past device in case I need it.

Haha - thanks! I've got a baby monitor and home security camera (withings) and various airplay speakers for listening to music around the house, but I don't have a squirrel cam, yet :D

keeping my trusty 4s as a backup\spare phone because its the most beautiful design! When time will come, i'll pass the other phones to a family member or friend in need.

I'd absolutely advise you to keep it. If you go somewhere where you need a reliable phone you might want to bring your 2nd phone along.

There's bound to be something, or donate it to charity. I use mine as a 3D printer cam, can't mind if I said, been awake for 38 hours bloody toothake like you wouldn't believe.

Thankfully I have lots of morphine and various other things because of my nerve damage so I'm keeping the pain just under control. Trouble is it makes you a *ahem bit high when you take too much so it's also making me blather on, you may have noticed :D

I use Arlo cams, nice setup those I really like them and I'm not biased because I was one of the beta testers :)

It would be nice to keep them all but I sell my year old iPhone to go towards the new one each year.
It's a system that works well for me and would cost me a lot more each year if I kept them each time.

In my family there is always someone that breaks their phone and didn't have AppleCare or can't afford to fix it. I keep an old iPhone around to lend to that person. In my case it's a haunted iPhone 5 that goes all wonky when it gets warm.

This has 2 main benefits:

1. The person using the loaner uses the phone less.
2. They are highly motivated to replace or repair their original device.

Works like a charm.

I have always sold my phone or gave it to a family member. The only phone I actually still have is the original iPhone and that is more for nostalgia.

I used to sell my old phones when I really needed the money, but now I just don't feel like going through the hassle most of the time, and I actually wind up using a lot of my old devices at home on Wi-Fi or with free service. Using Hangouts/Google Voice really helps with this as I still get all of my calls and text on any device I'm using as long as it has an internet connection.

I alternate between using my Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone SE when I go out, so those always stay plugged into the wall so they're fully charged whenever I'm ready to leave. When I go out to walk my dogs or just want to carry a phone with me around my apartment, I'll use my Moto X 2015 which has free service, and sometimes I'll go to sleep listening to music on my Nexus 4. Every few weeks or so I'll miss the form factor of the Moto X 2013 and use that for about a day or two.

I always sell using Craigslist. If my phone ever breaks and I need a backup, I'll just buy one off Craigslist. I don't see that happening though, so I might as well sell it while it's worth something. I can surely buy a phone later for cheaper than I'm selling it for now.

(Be careful selling your iPhone though. There were a lot of scammers on Craigslist this year. People from around the country were contacting me trying to give me more money than I was asking for via PayPal if I'll ship it to them. I specifically stated in my ad that it had to be local cash only offers. Also, why in the world would they want MY iPhone from the other side of the country when there thousands of them posted on Craigslist in their local area. Another clue was they would text me with the title of my ad copy and pasted "Hi. Do you still have your 'iPhone 6 64gb gold AT&T unlocked $300 GSM T-Mobile' for sale?")
