What!?!

What does self esteem have to do with this?

Men should work hard and WANT to date attractive celebs. Has nothing to do with self esteem.

Think about this-

Plain Jane vs Lauren Conrad

----------

Heck no I don't have "values".

You only live once. I'm not going to waste it not going all out.

The Hills is a great show bc it emobodifies the core values I cherish:

Wealth, good looks, big houses, fancy cars, expensive dinners

Who wouldn't want all that?

All this ANTI- Bourgeoisie talk is ridiculous. People should want to live like the Hills or even better TBH

Hey are you lying to us on this forum, in another thread you post that you give to charity, you think that helping the poor is noble.:confused::confused:

I hate to tell you this, man. Lauren Conrad is the girl next door with access to a professional hair stylist and makeup artist.

The thing that weirds me out about you is that you only go for the generic. What MTV (which was far better in the 90's) plasters all over the screen. It's like you don't don't have a mind of your own. Do you really need to wait for society to tell you what's hot or not.

Of course it is. And of course I do volunteer for tornado relief especially. But I'm talking about my PERSONAL life.

I can do whatever I want. I don't have to be "moral" with who I date etc.

Even the hills characters give to charity.

I agree with you. Lauren Conrad is a notch above average if you take away the glitz
And glam.

She's kind of on the short side too actually.

Idk I think the appeal of Hollywood and just her style got me in love lol

EDIT: What do you think of Heidi? I don't find her that attractive.

She might be one of those girls who looks good in person not so much on camera maybe?

I know spencer was obsessed with her but I never knew why.

He could've done better IMO

If the show was so boring as you claim why did it have 6 seasons how did the cast make millions from it???

As I mentioned earlier, I had never even heard of the show until this thread. Indeed, - reading our posts - I had come to the conclusion that any reference to the show was merely an attempt to allow you to discuss your utter and abiding absorption with the perceived 'hotness' of one of the show's female stars, (an actress, likewise, I had never heard of).

That fact that it was popular is not necessarily an argument in its favour, to my mind. Some of what is popular in other cultures (and indeed, even in my own) I view with the fastidious disdain of a former Ivory Tower dweller.

Ah, now. A charter - chiselled in tablets of stone - for What Men Should Want And Desire and Demand From Life…..

Firstly, why should men 'want to date attractive celebs'? What is the point?

Secondly, if you don't have 'values' - as you say you don't - why your contrived splenetic incoherent rage about HRC elsewhere in these very fora?

And thirdly, to the question - 'who wouldn't want all that?'

Not me. I don't. Not remotely. I have other interests, values and goals in life.

I have goals too. I'd like to be a billionaire, and to be frank, I would love to date a girl from the Hills

Any one of them is fine with me lol.

I'd also like to drive a car like Spencer, that M3 BMW. I have a nice car but that M3 blows mine out of the water.

You're from the ivory towers so you should know that not everyone cares to get a prestigious degree.

My grandma always says "What good is an education of you can't make money off it" in reference to me ALMOST becoming an English major (if anyone's an English major, no offense!!! :)

Lauren Conrad went to fashion school but she made a lot of money so that'd be better for her than lets say UPENN.

Very informative thread. However, back in the day I always thought OC>hills

OC!!!! I totally forgot about that show! YouTube time :D

Great image I for one miss Salvador Dali, my parents met him in Paris in 1956. I have a signed birthday from him.

Wow. What a fantastic story, and how lucky you are to have such memories Brilliant - I'm impressed.

Victoribus Spolia ;)

But: are those spoils worth the victory?

Wow
I am a fan of Dali. Always sad when a colorful human leaves us.

No, of course not - at least, not to my mind.

Re Dali, as a teenager I was a bit torn by the fact that I really hugely liked his work - especially his stunning composition - but was made uneasy by the fact that some critics regarded him as 'morally rotten', and went on to dismiss both man and work in such tones, seeing them as indistinguishable.

George Orwell - whom I really admire as writer and thinker - managed to bridge this divide for me when I came across one of his essays which argued that Dali was both an outstanding artist and a morally bankrupt human being, and that one could admire the art while deploring 'moral bankruptcy' of the outlook of the individual man.

Insecurity? The desire to prove himself to himself? Impress other males?

See any contribution to any political thread.

Side note: at this point, this _has_ to be a total put on.

It's the way that you talk/post constantly about money that makes me think that you really don't have any.

People IMO alway obsess about what they DON"T have.

not at all! I have a lot of friends who went to Ivy leagues and are in 400k debt after graduating from med school just to be able to SAY "I'm from an Ivy League"

Now that's insecure.

But the reason why spencer dates hot women and Heidi goes shopping is probably bc it's FUN.

I don't have to prove nothing to nobody. I do whatever I want. Whatever makes ME happy.

EDIT:

400k debt at 8% interest = totally you know what.

That's worse than going broke like Spencer and Heidi did!

I wouldn't even _think_ about calling someone a:

Well you posted a image of a kaketoe

You have finally sent this old bunny to the funny farm, with your cryptic posts.:p

I think it lost something in the translation.

Well, I am not an English major (although I love the English language and have worked as an editor); however, I am a history major…….

As to your grandma's question of 'what good is an education if you cannot make money from it?', I would respond that this is not the function of an education…….

Rather, it is part of the function of an education to enable you to craft the tools you will need to help you navigate the pathways of life and to try to give you an understanding what it is all about while you are embarked on that journey.

I think birds are code for HOT CHICKS, but the type that don't touch wallets.

Ah, I see. My grateful thanks…... Never spotted that (that literal, academic mindset….one has been known to have been afflicted with). Mea culpa.

Now, yes, I do see.

Very good. Ah, what can I say? Other than, rare and beautiful creatures should be preserved, and revered………(and not possessed and flaunted…)

Hahaha, sorry about that :D You should spend on a week on this end ... it's like the inmates have taken over the nuthouse.

The OP's comments in other threads are like he's PARROTING things said/written by other people, vs. forming his own opinions using critical thought.

The follow up ornithological image content was just me being silly. :D

So one is better off earning a B.A. in Art History at Cornell, then working at i.e. Hardees with $250,000 in debt at 8% interest

THAN

Dropping out of i.e. Harvard and starting Microsoft?

Because they are able to "understand life better"?

The Hills stars didn't do much academically, but they're richer than most educated people...(at least the ones like Lauren Conrad who is worth a cool 25 million) and I'm sure they understand THEIR life just fine.

http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/actors/lauren-conrad-net-worth/

Call me crazy, but I'll pass on Art Class and skip missing out on the chance of "being able to navigate the pathways of life and understanding what life is really all about" for a nice life

lol

Thanks - I hadn't picked up on the parrot pun either. (Must be slow, tonight…..).

Okay, I get it and thank you again….and agree with you.

I'm not calling you 'crazy' (your word, not mine). I am merely explaining that some of us have different goals, and worship at different shrines. Your goals mean little to me, as I neither share them nor do they have any resonance in my world, the world of the mind, or mental landscape, and mine, on the other hand, probably arouse a blistering contempt in you. So be it.

You cannot conceive of how anyone would want to be other than ostentatiously rich and positively dripping in status symbols, cars, houses, and women (as possessions). How….trite and vapid. But, your choice, if that floats your boat.

Personally, I cannot conceive of how someone can want to live a life devoid of an intellectual dimension and a well stocked and endlessly reappraised mental landscape. Someone who has no questions to ask of the world - or who has few interesting stories to tell of their time while here - is not someone I could envisage spending too much of my own time with, willingly. But, maybe that is just me.

However, on the topic of (Bill Gates) dropping out of Harvard to found Microsoft, and the late Mr Jobs taking a similar path when he decided to abandon formal education, I don't have a quarrel with that; they were pursuing a dream, a goal, a vision. They wanted to do something, add to the world's store of activity and knowledge, and preferably do well out of it. Few would argue that they transformed their world.

Your goals, from what I have read of your posts, are merely to be (to be rich, to be linked with a 'hot' person - I cannot say anything other than that, or the unwanted image of a scarlet parrot will float into my mind), rather than to do anything.

I suspect that you do not necessarily admire either Mr Gates or Mr Jobs for what they did, but for what their eventual wealth allowed them to buy, eventually.

At the end of the day, I value knowledge, and its acquisition. You value wealth, and its acquisition. So, our core values differ. Fundamentally. And, one final difference. I rather like the English language, and so will never end a post with that tedious, unimaginative, derivative, ghastly little online giggle, the one that is often in three lazy letters.
