I find also that generally lower IQ (thus the higher use of abusive language) is in direct proportion to the quicker one is to become social aggressive and excited over proportionately simpler items... :p

lol that's a great fn' line. honestly...good one. touche ;)

It offends me when people swear around small children. I find it extremely vulgar and a little sad when small kids swear, because it reflects a poor upbringing. But adults can swear all they want, I don't care.

Oh get over it.

They're just words, and I feel much much worse for children whose parents are that restrictive and overbearing. My dad didn't care what words we said when we were kids, because he knew they were just words. Rather than punish us for articulating our feelings, he'd just accept it as a fact and not get all hurt and upset by it.

And guess what... I, and my brothers, have managed to grow up normally. In fact, I'd say I'm much more mature than most people my age (20), as I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, but boy do I swear. I hold a steady job, pay my rent on my own, and take a full course load. Hardly a life reflective of a poor upbringing.

When I have children, I'm not going to teach them these words, but I'm also not going to censor myself around them, and I'm not going to punish them for swearing.

But I also realize that most parents don't raise their children this way. I never notice myself swearing around children, but my girlfriend reminds me, and I watch what I say when other peoples kids are nearby.

Swearing is just words, nothing more. I do it out of habit and I can't stand it when highly religious people (and when I say this I'm talking about a single friend of mine ) say things every time we talk because I don't always remember to censor myself around her. She likes to "charge me a dollar" for every swear word I say. Good lord...

I completely agree with everything you said! I wasn't raised in a household where swearing was a huge deal, therefore I didn't care. I swear a lot, but not because I think I'm cool or I'm trying to rebel or anything like that. I drank a lot of dish soap for "swearing" when I was little, because my mom was obligated to punish me due to her boyfriend's request, and I'd never consider doing that with my child.

-Using swearing at some one "**** you, you ****ing retard do you not ****ing get how to use the ****ing registry? Just go to the mother****ing start menu and click Run and type the ****ing word 'Regedit'! Deck!"
For some weird reasons, this is just plain funny to me. :D

I seldom swear, and if I do, I only use it to describe the situation, not to direct it at anyone. I also use it on my friends to express intimacy and humor. :D

I wouldn't say that it 'offends' - everybody swears, right? - but it certainly annoys and bores me.

I know people whose every other word is a swear word and it gets quite tiresome and embarrassing to listen to them: "I was f***ing walking down the f***ing street and this f***ing..." and so on. I makes me just want to slap them!

The same goes for films and books with excessive and unnecessary swearing. It's not big or clever or 'gritty'.

Depends if it was directed towards me or not lol... actually... It really doesn't offend me lol

Yeah it is very annoying when people swear in every sentence!

It depends. If you're genuinely angry or upset, then it's warranted; but if you're just swearing casually to fill in a sentence, then you're stupid as hell. :p

In my house, I swear whenever I please. I pay to live here, deal with it.

That doesn't mean I go out and swear in front of everyone. I keep it clean around the children. But I will swear any other time. It is called freedom and I will use it as I damn well please.

aww, freedom. But where does your freedom to swear meet my freedom to not be subjected to it? There are so many arenas where this question comes up. Music, "free" speech, smoking, to name a few.

Not everyone..as the above poster has said. I have been married to my wife for nineteen years and have dated her for twenty-one and i have never heard her swear.

I on the other hand, have let a few slip over the years, but I certainly try not to.

swearing doesn't bother me at all.
in fact its when people get upset at me swearing that upsets me more.

the problem in my book is that they're only 'swear' words if we let them be, so we let them keep this stigma and keep saying its 'bad' when there is no reason too.

/shrug.

The key part of your reply is that you've "never heard her swear". That, of course, doesn't mean that she doesn't let an expletive slip when she's by herself and stubs her toe on corner of the bed. It never fails to get me cursing! ;)

I agree with the people that do swear but that get annoyed by over use in a conversation. Much like how I use the word "like" but one that uses it every fourth word it gets really annoying.

Well unless you count, "Shoot!" as a expletive. :)
