After looking at the wife's Samsung S5 camera and images both on her screen and downloaded into PhotoShop, Apple needs to step up. I will replace my 5S with the 6 no matter but hope Apple improves the camera.

Oh and I do not what to hear about what the reviews say as I have both these phone and consider my personal use better than a review for me!

You may not want to hear about the reviews but there is a consistent body of opinion different than yours. There is nothing wrong however with apple upping the game.

Everyone who has actually taken photos with the S5 agrees that it takes class-winning snaps. Apart from those reviews you posted...

You can take that any which way. However, it's an interesting data point to note. Nobody is going to get richer or more famous or whatever, by citing whatever source may make one happy.

For what is supposedly a higher end device it would be nice to have a real xenon flash like my much older much cheaper phone.

Last time I researched it xenon couldn't be kept on for more then just a flash. The iPhone's flash needs to double as a flashlight. Plus with Apples true tone flash (or whatever they call it) it looks like it will be LED for a while.

I rarely take pictures with my iPhone, I have a 70D SLR for that. I need the bigger screen. The small text is messing with my 46 year old eyes.:(

Well then how about adding a real xenon flash next to the 50cent LED?

I'm "only" 34 but yes, a bigger screen would be restful to my eyes.
I do have a DSLR and I love taking photos, but obviously I don't have it all the time with me, so I really want a better camera system on my iPhone.
I think there's room for improvement in low light condition, while I'm satisfied with pics I take in sunlight

I'm trying real hard to never fully realize I pay $1000 for $209 worth of parts. I don't want to break the spell.

It should be easy for some people to buy the parts at radio shack for $209 and just build the phone they want. :)

Good to see that you are not so much of a fanboy to admit that.

Yes sir. A fanboy defends an opinion even with evidence to the contrary. :)

Does the camera need an upgrade for you to buy the next iPhone?

Yes, but I don't care about megapixels. Heck, they could drop to six megapixels and I wouldn't care, as long as the photo quality improved. In my non-expert opinion, the single most important things they could do is increase the aperture size to f/2.0 or f/1.8 (if this is even possible on a camera so small), and increase sensor size (or, keep the same sensor size and reduce megapixel count).

A larger aperture (smaller number) while better for low light also effects the depth of field. Getting too aggressive isn't always a good idea with an all-in-one camera.

Sensor size is in relation to lens size. There is also a large crop factor since the image quality is best in the center of an already small lens.

Here is a of my old D70 which isn't a full frame sensor. I'm holding it up to my Mac so it lights up through the view finder. There is just too many size constants plus like aperture you start running into give and take situations. The camera has to be good all around which automatically eliminates it from being amazing at anything.

I'm not worried about the 6's camera. I'd be surprised if it's anything less than ass kicking. (Ok the OIS-only-for-the-5.5 thing does worry me a bit.)

The camera gets better with every iPhone release so I see no reason to believe the 6 might be different. That being said, the 5S camera is no slouch as it is. It still ranks among the best smartphone cameras.
