I think I'll give my 'hissing' MBP back (I bought it on line here in Italy, and I have 5 more days to give it back without any fee).

Since Macbook Pro are not so "pro" I'll buy a white, cheaper macbook, waiting for a new generation of better MBPs.

:(

popping noise...

Brand new 17" MBP.

Every time a sound occurs like someone logging into AIM I get a pop just before the sound. Its like the speakers are just waking up...

I have this problem on my SR 2.2GHz bought last September. It sounds as bad as the old Dell machine I used to use.

I use the machne for music and use an external Firewire audio interface but I too mix on the road and this isn't acceptable.

I've also had three screens on this machine (yellow issues) and it also doesn't project properly to some projectors (another recognised issue).

My black macbook doesn't have any of this. Can't say I'm impressed with these MBPs.

Yes thats exactly what it seems to be. Like the speakers go asleep or go into standby and then they wake up and make a sound. Only for me its the opposite. The speakers make a sound when they "go to sleep" not when they "wakeup"

The thing is the logitech z-5500s of mine won't go into stand-by mode unless you push the button. They never did this with my last machine I had...

I am a musician, and despite the fact that I own 3 external audio interfaces, I often will want to mix on the road or at my girlfriend's house without having to bring an audio interface around all the time.

Needless to say, having just spent $$$ on the thing, I am pretty pissed about this. Otherwise a great machine - runs cool and very good battery life. Nice bright display.

I'm in the same boat. (New 17" MBP Penryn) I'm planning on doing label projects on location with the MBP and will be using external ad/da's but there is always a situation where I need the analog outputs on the MBP. This problem is inexcusable and we deserve to know about defects before we purchase or be compensated for them with discounts etc. I heard the cracking/hiss on the right channel of my headphones over the weekend and needless to say I got pretty upset and mad about it.

Same as mine when it starts up makes a Two " Pop " noise.

Also after gaming on Civ 4 for a while Audio messes up and continues crackly.

On a new 2.5ghz Penryn 17" Hires

The pink hue.

I heard there was a problem with mbp kind of having a pink hue to it. When i first got my mbp I thought it was silver, but when I read online about everyone else getting the pink hue on there cases, I sat there abd stared the f^*k out of it for 8 hours, and now I can see it , it's definitely pink.

I rang up the apple store and said WTF my mbp case has a pink tinge to it, they were like what?? so I brought it in the apple store and the guy takes it out back and the genius takes a look, then he comes back and says it looks silver to us, and I said perhaps the lighting in the apple store is a special frequency to hide the pink tinge, so he agreed to go to the cafe next door, a cute little coffee shop called Pinkoffee that has pink wall paper and carpet, but most importantly they don't have special frequency light bulbs.

So his looking at it from all different angles as we sip our Pinkuccino's and he says you know what, I really think it does look kind of pink. I said yep I told you so, I'd never have known had I not read on it on the internet. So they exchanged it for a blackbook and an a timecapsule.

Remember you read this post on the internet, its true!

So you're saying the majority of posters on this forum lie, and that we all look too hard for problems, none of which are apple's fault or even exist? Also you're mocking people some of whom may have legitimate problems with there machine.

I didn't even know they allowed the Internet in Australia

I agree this problem should really be addressed; it is a constant issue on my SR (Merom) MBP (Jan 08)

I use a SR 2.4 MBP.

Maybe Im not good at hearing, but I don't hear anything off nominal coming from my output port. Just a very silent tone, which can be found in most of the audio outs if you turn the volume up.

that would be the problem, and yes it really does need to be addressed

i´m also very disappointed...this is my 4th mbp and it´s definately the worst. pixelerrors, the right fan is buzzing and i have this strange "wakeup"-noises via the audio-output...strangely, this noise seems to be slightly better under xp (bootcamp). i did a complete reinstall, but still the same...maybe it´s a driver issue?!?!

Does anyone know if the Alu iMac headphone output exhibits the same noises? Anyone experienced this problem with the current iMac?

This is the thread I've been looking for. My MBP has it too. I was shocked when I turned on iChat and it became apparent. My Powerbook never had a single issue!

Wow i just decided to plug in my headphones for a relaxing night, and i got tons of these weird R2D2 sounds that everyone is talking about...very annoying considering I just got this laptop not even a week ago thru Amazon.com

and i also plan on using this laptop for music purposes, so these are very annoying trying to listen to music at a low volume...

So do I return this to Amazon, or Apple? I'm not sure about what to do exactly...

and I had my old powerbook that had none of these weird sounds! (but it had a bad ram slot, broken hinge on the screen, 20 minute battery life, shutting down randomly, etc)

I have been having this problem as well.

Apple sent me my 3rd Macbook Pro replacement (which of course, did not solve the issue).

When I call them up they tell me that this is the first time they've heard of this problem. The solution they have now is for me to bring it to the nearest Applestore and have the guys at the genius bar take a look.

I already did that though, and the guy claims he can't hear anything.
Yet, I will try again, and maybe get someone who has a good set of ears (and doesn't think I'm some audio newbie who has busted headphones).

If anyone hasn't done it yet, I recommend calling up Apple and letting them know that this problem isn't just a freak incident in 1 or 2 computers.

i dont think theres a way to fix it; its just a problem with all mbps and some people notice it others dont thats why they think they dont have the problem. oh well...

True, but I still think if enough of us raise our voices to apple they may start to realize this is a big problem. As someone who bought this Mac specifically to use music software on, I think it's outrageous that they're overlooking this, and that we're being written off.
