Thanks

Thanks for your reply,

I checked the refurb section and found this for $2200:

Originally released October 2013
15.4-inch (diagonal) Retina display; 2880-by-1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch
16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
512GB Flash Storage1
720p FaceTime HD camera
Intel Iris Pro Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M

This is basically the same price as the 15 inch (new) mac pro with the base iris graphics, base 2.0ghz processor and base 8gb of ram and 256gb of storage.

I believe that the current 15inch mac pro (new) was also released in OCT 2013 so they are the same age...

Is this an old version or same timeline as the new ones that are being offered?

If Oct 2013 is the current release date I will likely just buy a new 15 inch (above) but with education pricing (comes to the same price...).

I was thinking the 750M would be pointless (read some forums) and just get an upgraded base (16gb ram, 512 hard drive)... but then again I do like gaming occasionally and would like to future proof this for a bit.

Also, would the 750 slow the laptop down or hurt battery life a lot? Or is it only accessed if it is needed by the computer?

Sorry for the long message. Any comments?

It's the current retina MacBook Pro being offered.

I'd buy the refurb with the GT750m and upgrades, but that's just me. It has the same warranty as a new Mac, and you'll save some money while you're at it.

Thanks T5

Thanks T5 but that refurb model for $2200 is $2000 less than buying a all out new one.

Worth it? Also will the 750 graphics card hurt the battery life?

I am only asking about the GPU since if I got the base 15 inch I would upgrade the hard drive and ram anyway so they are both non-issues as I would have in both anyway ( so effect on battery life is a non-issue )

Neither of the components you have just mentioned are user upgradable on the Retina MacBook Pro (rMBP). The RAM is soldered to the logic board and while the SSD is on a separate board no one currently sells an upgrade SSD board for the rMBP.

Pulled the trigger

I pulled the trigger on a new 15 inch top retina model and I love it.

It was $200 more than the refurbished model but it though it was ok.

I am going to love gaming on this beautiful screen and working.

Thanks everyone.
