Because ATT told me to take the SIM from my iPad2 and put it in my iPad3. When that didn't work they told me to go to the store to get a new SIM.

The problem is that I am post paid and on a grandfathered data plan for 2GB at $25 per month. I am not alone in this problem it appears based on replies in another thread about this. It's a postpaid issue with not having a LTE plan for postpaid unless you upgrade to the next higher plan.

Why did you have to get a new sim, didn't your att ipad3 come with one?

My ATT shows LTE when I'm using LTE. Some areas do not have ATT LTE, only HSPA+, which show as "4G" on the iPad.

If you still have the microSIM that came in your 3rd gen iPad you can use it. I have a grandfathered unlimited and it transfer almost immediately. You do not need to buy a new SIM unless you tossed the one in your new iPad.

Ok, so what you are saying is that AT&T intentionally offered "unlimited" to lure people into buying iPads then yanked it when enough people bought them.

That's how I see it.

Before the iPad even before the iPhone AT&T offered the BlackBerry on their network streaming television programs from a device called Slingbox using the sling media player . When the iPhone 3G came out "oh no we can't let you use Slingbox we don't have enough capacity", Wi-Fi only if you please.. 6 to 8 months later they relented and allowed Slingmedia streaming on their 3G service.

So yes, I think they were aware of the capacity, back haul, bandwidth issues whatever you want to call it when the iPad was released. All smiles for unlimited pay as you go service and then yanked it anyway.

Business? Monkey business

Ok, I guess. You are entitled to your opinion. I just don't think it is reasonable. Business don't operate that way. Business operate to make money. I think it is entirely more reasonable that they offered unlimited thinking people would abide by the contract and that most users would stay under the cap. What happened is that many users simply ignored the contract and clogged their network, forcing them to take back the plan. But that is also my opinion only.

Well, yeah I think AT&T did also lure customers with unlimited and then end it. They knew full well how a multimedia device was going to be used. iPhone was never a light email/browser only phone.

What AT&T did not do is build out their network as expected.

They are also greedy bastards overcharging for service. Why not charge $30 for 3GB and a dolllar of each addition GB. Or anything more reasonable. Now that there is LTE its rip off time extreme as streaming is now possible and practical over the ipad.

We should start seeing the "Oh my god I spent how much" threads in a few weeks and AT&T will be laughing all the way to the bank. All unnecessary.

As much as AT&T is "laughing all the way to the bank", they are not sitting on $100 billion in cash like some other company that shall remain nameless, yet I have yet to see a single post referring to them as "greedy bastards".

AT&T bashing gets old. I guess I'll just have to tune it out and accept it as part of Macrumors life....
