I don't think most people have big enough hands to use the phone one-handed.

Anyway I used to own a 4.7" Nokia, which is slightly bigger than the iP6. Sometimes my other hand wasn't free so I only had one hand left to operate the phone. The problem was that I couldn't reach the far edges of the screen. So sometimes I want to reply someone but I'm not able to reach the 'A' letter, and I'm not able to to finish the message. I could shift the position of my hand, but then my grip on the phone wouldn't be so good and I'd risk dropping it.

I'm Asian and female though so my hands are probably relatively small.

Well I'm coming from a note 3 so I'm already used to using both my hands. I honestly prefer the large screen. I don't know if I can live without the large screen.

I'm not getting the 6 plus but I have owned big phones like the LG G3 and the note series. I have got by well buy using a third party keyboard swiftkey; honestly its hands down the best keyboard ever and the main reason I used android for so long. Swiftkey is coming to iOS 8

It's funny how everyone here was making fun of the 5.5 android phones and now everyone is getting a 6+.

Everyone? Don't think so there guy. Many of us still think those 5.5 android phones are stupid big, and are a brick to carry. That includes Apple branded versions.

I can type almost as fast with one hand as I can with two. Only real added benefit of two hands for me, is slightly more accurate typing when not looking at the keyboard - although I can do it one handed too, just with a few more mistakes.
Bigger screen of either iPhone 6 size means I'll have to re-learn that skill.

Apple already have the pieces in place for one-handed typing to be fixed.
iPad has a moveable keyboard, and split view keyboard that shrinks it down.

I'm sure someone will come along with a custom keyboard that you can resize within the standard keyboard space (so the text box doesn't drop to the bottom of the screen like iPad).
Then you can resize it to to a suitable size (preferably with pre-sets including 5S size) and stick it on whichever edge works for your one-handed typing.
A "lock" feature would be nice too, so you don't accidentally move or resize it whilst typing.

Sometimes I use one hand, sometimes two. When getting the 6+ you would give up one handed totally, while when getting the 6 you still can use it one handed and the two hand experience will be improved cause it's a little bigger than the 5(S).

True. Maybe that was the main reason to allow 3rd party keyboards.

It was also funny when Phil Schiller said on the keynote "In iOS 7 we added the feature to swipe across the screen to go back and forward, in mind that you will need that feature later." -- Wait, you knew that u are going to release bigger iPhones more than one year ago?

Actually they probably did. Pretty sure they have these phones mostly planned out at least a couple years in advance. Some things might be added closer to production due to the release is a new technology, but i would bet they knew a couple years ago that they were going to make bigger screens on iPhones.

iOS8 introduces "audio" messaging. I suspect either Siri or audio will be the only method for one handed operations on the 6+

Apparently in China, audio messaging is how the primarily message.

I already ordered my 6+

But I can't deny I still think on the size

Thinking of my habits,

I'm a girl and my hands are small

I use my phones (5 & 5S)
Both 2 handed & 1 -when I'm busy in something else I usually hold the phone in one hand)

BUT! The keyboards feel small to me either ways

I keep typing with spelling mistakes.. The keypad is very small and because I have long nails

I will always click the letter in the right or the left of the one need to click (B like or M instead of N)

Hopefully the 6+ will have enough spaces to minimize this issue because I type a lot in my phone (Texting, Instagram, Twitter... Etc)

You guys worried about doing things one-handed on the 5.5 need to step back and adjust your whole view. It is just not going to work well at all. Get used to working 2-handed, as if it were a small iPad. Or maybe sometimes use voice input, I guess (yuck). Personally I am OK making the transition but you have to know what you're getting into, you can't use it like a 3.5" phone.

To me, I have never experienced one-hand and 5.5". this is new territory for me and what scares me, but I'm willing to take on the size. :D

There's always going to be trade-offs. Sure, you may have some difficulty texting 1 handed (or other things 1 handed), especially if you have small hands, but there are definite benefits. Watching videos, playing games, reading anything with lots of text (epubs, Safari, even PDFs) will be greatly improved. Plus, better battery life. You got to look at the pros and cons, because there's certainly both.

I miss the days of pulling my flip phone out of my pocket and without even looking at it I could type out a text using T9. As far as this thread goes, I'm concerned about one-hand use with the iPhone 6 but I think I'll get used to it. Personally, I find the Plus to be way too big to be carried around in a pocket. But to each their own.

same bro, i noticed alot of people hated on big phones/phablets whatever. but as soon as Apple releases their first one everyone all of a sudden wants one.

i choose the 64gb silver 4.7

----------

i can just about text w 1 hand on the 5.1 samsung galaxy i have and the MEGA i used for a few months and boy i hated it.

After downloading and printing out the drawings, I immediately knew the 4.7 would be better. In addition, the last few days I've been paying closer attention to my one-handed texting and phone operating habits. It was astonishing to learn how much functionality I would be giving up going all the way up to 5.5. 4.7 is a comfortable jump while still having one handed functionality. Everyone keeps thinking about how it will fit into pockets. What about one handed operation?? Does it matter to anyone?

I'm sure it will matter to some people, it doesn't matter to me.

But why on earth would it matter to you what may or may not matter to others?
