I feel there is a motive here with the FBI doing this so publicly, they have access to the CIA and the NSA who could crack the device yet they publicly demand that Apple do it.

Public recruiting... if there is a price on this, how long do you think it will be before a former Apple Employee capable of hacking something together contacts the FBI offering services in exchange for a mountain of money and amnesty against any suit Apple could bring against them?

Yeah, hope we will have lots and lots of jokes on Americans once Donald Trump gets elected :)

Fortunately, there are less nuts than sane people as shown by the last two presidential elections. He may get the nomination for the GOP but will never make it into the White House! Thank God!!! This idiot should never have his finger on the trigger to our WMD. I'm puzzled by his party's support when he has yet to actually say anything beyond blurt outs like Uncle Bob watching the news and yelling at the TV. Not a single realistic solution to any of our problems. Maybe this is just a cover to get elected then you find out he was really a democrat all along and will layout a moderate and reasonable agenda to help all people. I doubt it though.

You could go even further, 480,000 cigarette related deaths each year, 33,000 traffic related deaths per year, 88,000 alcohol related deaths each year - all stats come from the CDC. So should we be more worried about terrorism, or should we be trying to reduce those deaths that we can actually control?

I already know the answer - no one wants to have personal responsibility and it's easier to think about some nut job blowing you up, than it is to stop doing things we know are bad for us. It's a sad state of where we have come - so when Trump talks about making America great again, I'm just not sure exactly what he's talking about.

I think we need to spend significantly greater amounts on education, because it's pretty clear this country has a lot of ignorant, under-educated, people. But instead, let's give education money to the military and homeland "defense" groups, so we can save 15 people a year...

It's not about saving 15 people a year... it's about controlling millions of people, through fear, propaganda and media manipulation. They don't want educated people that can think for themselves, create alliances, challenge the current rhetoric and status quo. They want a dumbed down nation, far easier to herd. The same is happening here in the UK.

There is a long course history of this. There is no "right" to healthcare per many Supreme Court rulings. You are responsible for the health of your body and not anyone else. Most of all, via free speech, you have the right to determine what is healthy and not the Fed.

That means accepting or rejecting many different schools or healthcare. Many in this country prefer alternative methods other than MD's such a Chiropractic and Herbalists. Also, many reject Psychology / Psychiatry and the DSM as a whole. Instead, they look at religious forms of counseling. The way that the fed has screwed up Medicare and the VA, I don't want any of that crap compulsory nor paid with my tax dollars.

This thread has officially gone way off topic!

those things you mention arent part of the "free" health care system in for example Germany anyway plus its not really free in the first place. i get about 85€ deducted from my salary every month (my company has to pay the other half)

in exchange for this i dont have to worry about a bill when i have to go to the hospital or to see a doctor. dentist only provides the basic things, everything else like professional teeth cleaning has to be paid extra (its about 60€ for one session)

Who do the government think THEY are, thinking they can snoop on anyone in the world at any time without their permission?!!

Yea lets elect a socialist. What the hell is wrong with the people in this country?

America already HAS socialism.

It helps to win an argument if you know what you are talking about. It's communism that you don't really want 100%, but America has some of that too. BTW: How's capitalism working for you?

And America is not a democracy anymore. That ended a while ago... USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

Most people in this country aren't very educated. If they were, they'd know the difference between a socialist and a social democrat. And they'd realize the US already has a whole laundry list of social programs.

But that isn't the topic of this thread...
It's almost like you are saying that he's stupid... oh right you are because he is. :D
Wonder if he'll notice.

Possibly. I don't know enough about engineering to judge. There are plenty of aspects of our lives that are more important that are run on computers that have "back doors" and we aren;t collectively freaking out. I personally think people are blowing the privacy factor way out of proportion and spinning this as the government wanting to search everyone's phones. I have not been presented with information that this is the case at all. I also am not sure that a back door works the way a lot of people assume it does.

You have not been presented with such information, but actual security experts who deal with these security and privacy issues for a living have (not that the FBI is attempting to listen to your phone calls and access your bank accounts, but there are major organizations out there who are interested in exactly that). For example, https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2014/10/iphone_encrypti_1.html. I am not at all an expert in this, but do get paid in part for security analysis of major online systems; my take is right in line with those of Schneier, etc. Apple is completely in the right here. I just wish other companies who are trusted with as much of our personal data would be as adamant and resolute in their protection of our privacy.

And, no, the fact that other systems have back doors does not mean that we should make back doors a designed-in feature.

The worst thing Republicans can do for themselves is nominate Donald Trump. That would ASSURE a win for the Democrat (ANY Democrat). Trump will never be President of the United States.

What do I care about what the rich are interested in, we have an opportunity to vote a candidate who has not been bought. Just that one fact alone is enough to get my vote, Bernie's policies are just icing on the cake. I think there are enough people out there that are smart enough to understand this.

Wow, you've really bought into that crap? First, he's hardly self financing; see the most prominent space on his website's nav bar. Here's a hint, it says DONATE. The money he has put in his campaign has been loans. He's enriching his friends with sales of his hats and other merchandise. But wait, there's more...

He has as many ties to Wall Street as any other candidate, probably more. You may recall Trump calling Cruz out for his loans from Goldman Sachs and Citibank. Trump went on to tell us that they now own Cruz. WOuld it surprise you to know Trump has tens, maybe hundreds of millions in outstanding loans from Wall Street. Don't take my word for it, let's look at his most recent financial disclosure.

Tell us again how Trump can't be bought.

Donations from individuals is a hell of a lot different than donations from Corporations and Lobbyists.

Only a fool underestimates Donald Trump. Donald is masterful at saying very little. Even when he does say things, if it gets challenged, a week later he will say something new that puts a spin on what he said so it seems very different or even the opposite. And people have no idea. He is masterful.

Right now Trump is focused on winning the Republican nomination. When he gets that I expect he will significantly shift statements to win the Presidency. If he makes those shifts in statements he will still have Republican support, then he'll get people saying, actually he's not that bad, and you know what, that thing he just said now is pretty good.

People have short memories when they hear what they want to hear. Trump is a salesman. He's selling each group on himself.

Underestimate this guy at your peril. There is a better than good chance that Trump is the next President and people haven't got that yet.

So? Have I ever said that she/he was wrong? I just made a comment on a statement about the sad state of things.

No, you did not do that directly.

I merely pointed out that mentioning that other countries do the same implies deflection and justification.

In other words, it sounds like you were saying (or rather, implying): "It's understandable that the US is racist because all other countries are."

It isn't.

Your post left it open for that kind of interpretation.

That said, I agree with you in this regard: it is indeed a SAD state of things.

I'm failing to see how what I said equated to "Trump gets we need racism at the core of our country". Maybe I'm just too stupid.
That's the point. You're not. Since you'd decided to honestly discuss an issue holding the presumption of Liberty as your premise, you'd also inadvertently accepted that ad hominem attacks would occur.
Saying ridiculous things and acting like you're leaving the room to go hang out with a better class of people is not a real debate tactic.
It's very real. Happens all the time. "No 'enlightened person' could possibly believe that, you selfish capitalist!". Consider yourself branded.

Isn't this the same tool who wanted to shut down "parts" of the internet? As if . . .
Yeah, he "gets" technology.
