Why would Tim Apple even think they would be granted a tariff waiver?
Why does the Apple-hate crowd think making fun of Trump’s mistake is some kind of burn on Tim Cook?

It always reminds me that he lied at first by saying that he actually said “Tim Cook Apple” really fast, but that the “Cook” part of the sentence was soft.

Apple should just bite the bullet and produce everything for the American market in the US.

True, it will take ages, causing huge delays, and spectacular price hikes. Not to mention they’ll have to import talent from overseas, so immigration will be a big hurdle too.

Oh, and no import of raw materials and resources from Africa. Get your own coltan! And while at it: keep your trash instead of exporting it to third world countries that don’t have waste management systems. No exploiting of other countries anymore by the USA. That’ll a be the day!

The hypocrisy of America First is truly shocking.

Apple is the wealthiest company on this planet, things can happen if they want to do it.

There is a reason Apple is the wealthiest company in the world...

I work for a company that manufactures entirely in the US. We are probably the 4th largest market share of the big 6 players. All other companies manufacture outside of the US.

They are still able to sell cheaper than we are. The US does not have the training or resources to manufacture commercial components.

Those days are long gone.

People need to accept this and educate people into roles where this country can be successful and be the best in the world.

Do what you’re good at now, not try to rekindle some long lost romance on something you used to be good at and now someone is kicking your ass at. It’s like an athlete who is past their prime, retire and good into broadcasting.

Hate is a strong word and I avoid it but.. I hate Trump. I also try to acknowledge that fact and not let it sway my opinions. Without knowing all the details, I completely agree with the sentiment. I find it absurd how much our government has incentivised companies to move manufacturing overseas.

The notion that something simply cannot be made here is equally absurd. Maybe it cant be made for the same price but it can be made.

The US can build those things again. Its not like we don't know how. We just need some incentive.

The dozens of people who were going to buy this are disappointed.

But really...good. Keep the jobs in the USA
Do you have a link to where Apple said they are going to make this new Mac Pro in the US? Do you have a link to anything credible that shows tariffs create/protect American jobs?

Maybe I just don't understand politics, but it's amazing how many fellow leftists are against the idea of government intervention that encourages manufacturing jobs in a country with better wages and worker rights.

It's amazing how many righties are totally cool with the gov't inhibiting the free market by imposing tariffs. Are we all just inconsistent bastards?

Someone that can afford a $1,000 monitor stand can afford to pay the tariff.
Say it with me, Capital Expense deduction. My Boss's niece works for a company that replaces their laptops every 3 months. Why? Because they can write it off as a business expense. So buy your $10K Mac, your $5K monitor and $1K monitor stand. That's a $16K tax write off if you can show the IRS it's a business expense. If not...you'll have the distinction of being jailed for the same reason as Al Capone.

Lefties aren’t against tariffs they’re against Donald Trump. It’s the Right that’s selling it’s soul for a cult of personality.

Tariffs are imposed on US companies who in turn raise prices to compensate so it’s hurting us not China. Building it in China and paying the higher tariffs would increase the cost for consumers. Building it in the US would also increase the cost for consumers. It’s a no-win scenario. People keep saying that Apple can afford to do this or that but don’t consider that it is going to cost them more to buy these products. It’s not apple that is going to pay the price in the end. The same goes for any company and any product. No company is going to pay the difference out of the goodness of their hearts, they are going to make up for it somehow.

I don't like Trump, and I've disagreed with almost every decision he's made. But if they're going to stick to their guns about this tarriff BS, then it does need to be across the board. Apple products are easily more expensive than the competition, there's no surprise there. They'll just be a little more more expensive.

If it ends up hurting Apple because people don't buy product, maybe Apple will rethink pricing. I doubt it, as what I really think would happen is Apple has enough cash reserves to just wait the tarriffs out. Fewer people buy that's fine.

I can't believe our President can lie as often as he does and he almost never gets called out on it, and if he does get called out about it, he declares it fake news and his supporters believe him; that makes no sense, but this post is not about that. It's about if you're buying a computer, display, and stand for 11000+, you can probably afford the tarriff too.

I'm jealous that I don't do anything that remotely justifies a computer that expensive!

And no one will be able to afford the products except the super rich

Business expense ;)

The only people hurt by this are those looking to surf the net and visit social websites on that bragged new MP, either their can afford it or not. Jokes aside some home users do have a legitimate use case, for those there is Apple Card o finance this machine and you will know exactly how long it will take to pay off and the true cost of ownership :p
