The problem is - you use them side by side!

The tint and contrast is a little bit different between my gf's iPad mini retina and my Air - but who cares? Hers also fits in a pocket and is easier to read books on than mine.

Yes, I can display an imagine on each one and say "See? Mine looks more vibrant!" But - who really cares? We don't do photography nor do we feel the need to sit and analyze photos, as we would rather use the apps themselves rather than spend time worrying about "This red could be more red.."

Besides, I've used some full body cases that degrade the screen quality just as much if not more.

I'm happy, she's happy.

You being unhappy won't affect me in the least.

Ok its taken all these posts to get a straight answer, its not reds its blues and greens that really stand out. You don't have to do photography its noticeable in even just apps.

Being a mod is wholly irrelevant. Am I not allowed to join in conversations?

Retina iPad Mini's Display Criticized Over Poor Color Gamut and Accuracy November 18, 2013

Ok, seeing as everyone is so upset with this thread and my lack of ignorance has touched a nerve. You have my permission to delete it before it before it turns into a war. I have already been accused of no sex today:)

----------

If you have 14 Apple products, then you know if it is a dud or not. My little Apple world is just peachy...or appley.
If you have a dud, then get it exchanged. If you have a dud though, and you're comparing it to the Air and you have to ask .. I'm at a loss of what to advise:confused:

I have just wiped and restored it and white looks better, but colours are the same. It is what it is.

Is there any adjustments that can be done?

Probably should of titled this don't buy a retina mini if you own a iPad Air or have used one.
In comparison whites are not white and colours are washed out and have about 50% less colour than the Air. Even just the apps look crap in comparison.
If you are happy with your mini you either don't care, are colour blind, the size is more important, or have never used a Air.
This version is not worth the $$.

Bring on the mini fans but you can't argue against the facts.

Well, that's certainly one self opinionated OPINION. Personally I think your wrong, and not because I am blind or don't care, but hey that's my OPINION. And I have played with the Air quite a bit.

Well lets break out the fireworks:eek:

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not upset about it. Why should I be? I'm merely giving my opinion on the matter.

That's easy.. Get a piece of red and blue cellophane and tape it to the screen. About 30% density. The memo you missed gave us that info before we bought in most cases. That should do it. :D

All in the vein of a discussionable topic. I truly love the piece of glass in my hands right now. It's gonna be hard for anyone to tell me it's not worth having. What I love most about it is the convenience it affords me while giving me the full iPad experience. It fits in my back pocket and goes with me everywhere my phone does. It is a worthy device. I've owned everything except the Surface. I haven't found anything that I would rather use.
(I think I invented a new word)

I bought an iPad mini for the size and therefore the iPad Air isn't even an option for me. The size of the mini trumps any barely noticeable color differences.

You must have one big back pocket:p After reading some of your other posts you were bound to jump into this thread. Mini syndrome maybe:)
Anyway back to the ranch.

I'm not upset, I think you touched a nerve because you are proclaiming that people should not buy the Retina Mini based on your personal observation and that's wrong.

I've said all along in this thread, what works for you, doesn't mean it will work for others. You prefer the Air to the rMini, great, so don't countless others. That in no way invalidates those consumers who choose the mini for their needs and are happy with the purchase.

The problem is you are acting as the final arbitrator of what is needed and that is what is hitting people's nerves.

As for my being a moderator, and posting in a thread - I have no right to contribute to a discussion or offer my opinion? That's kind of sad

Any criticism of any Apple product or policy on a Mac forum is going touch a nerve, due to the religious-like relationship many users have with Apple.

If the original poster had praised the Retina Mini, everyone in the church choir would be smiling and patting him on the back.

Members might ask themselves....

Why is it wrong for the OP to proclaim people should not buy an Apple product based on his personal experience, but....

It would be perfectly OK for the OP to proclaim people should buy an Apple product based on his personal experience?

Who cares about the Retina Mini? Not me. Apple community culture is far more interesting.

No worries, whats even sadder is the insults that are let slide:)

I bought both an Air and a Retina Mini on release. The Air definitely had a more vibrant screen, but the size and price of the Mini outweighed the better screen on the Air for me.

Anyway back to the ranch.

I actually check the jeans that I buy, before I buy them, to see if the mini fits. I use the rMini almost naked with only a Skinome skin on the back, and that's why it fits in most pants back pockets.
If your gonna start an Apple bashing thread on an Apple pro site, you gotta expect for folks to jump in. Be honest, isn't that what it's all about? I don't own Apple stock and don't feel like I'm a sheep. I've bought, used and enjoyed Android tablets and I keep my son-in-law's HTC Thunderbolt running for him cause I'm a bit of a geek and he isn't. But ios is so much smoother and I'm not always screwing around in settings with my Apple devices. Sure I'm bound to jump in. See ya next time you want to start a similar thread :p

I would suggest that you might consider the difference between a "facf" and an "opinion".

A very important destination in subjective matters of taste, and the computing needs of the individual.

We have both here and can't tell a difference in color at all. People who use it probably don't care about the color and just use it. As log as it works and fit their needs, most people wont care, and they shouldn't.

This comment illustrated my point perfectly, thank you.

Please Note: The OP did NOT start an Apple bashing thread.

That's how his post was PERCEIVED, but that's not what he actually said.

What he actually said was:

See? No Apple bashing.

Instead, he made the point that the Retina Mini is in his opinion not worth the price being charged. I have no idea if this is true or not.

I raise this point only because this thread represents so many other threads on this forum, and all Mac forums I've seen. The religious-like nature of the relationship some users have with Apple can make sharing reasoned discussions of Apple and Apple products quite difficult at times.

I'm not asking anybody to give up their religious beliefs :) but we should at least be clear about why some of us are posting what we post.

If you dear reader perceived the original poster to be Apple bashing, please reflect on how you might have come to that perception.

Well lets break out the fireworks:eek:

As I expected, and reading the other comments, I think what is being said has gone way over your head?

I would like to make the suggestion that the next time you start a thread like this, start with the words I THINK as it will set the tone a lot better.

The original post by the OP is totally presented as pure fact and in no way as a personal opinion, THAT is what has upset everyone. He then insults anyone who may disagree in the same post along with totally bashing the rMini.

Sadly, from my experience, nearly all forums are like this, except some will be the other way around where you can't say anything bad about Android, or Windows Phone, etc. These days, you really do have to pick a side and stay within your own community as the tech atmosphere is so incredibly hostile to anyone who is different to the accepted norm of the site you are frequenting. Tolerance towards difference in the tech community feels to be at an all time low.

I would like to make the suggestion that the next time you start a thread like this, start with the words I THINK as it will set the tone a lot better.

I suggest that each reader creates the tone of the thread within their own mind. I read the same OP as you did, and I didn't experience any tone problem.

What we're seeing now is another classic property of Apple culture.

Whatever is wrong, it's always the user's fault.

Therefore, if some readers are experiencing a tone problem, it must be the fault of the original poster. The original poster is clearly using mind control techniques to take control of our brains and force us to experience the thread in a tonally flawed manner.

And now he is forcing me to become his public defender!!! HEEELLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!! :)

Yes, there's truth in that, good point. I think it's OK for members so challenge the OP, so long as they are prepared to be challenged in turn. Same applies to me.

Products don't have egos, it's ok to bash them, they don't mind. :)

Personally I don't think posters should have to specifically say 'I think'. I'd like to think (now I'm doing it!) that readers of these posts are intelligent enough to determine for themselves whether something is a fact or opinion by the content of the post.

I own both the Air and rMini, both 128gb LTE.
For me there is no denying that the rMini produces washed out colours compared to the Air, however it makes up for it in portability. Just comparing perceived screen quality the Air wins hands down.

Lately, I often find myself grabbing the Air with me when I need a tablet outside of the house and the rMini often gets left behind, which is a shame really, I bought the rMini as my "on the go" tablet. Just goes to show that I apparently value the screen of the Air more that the size of the rMini.
