Me. My Applecare plan was pulled from under me when the seller (fromtheheartllc) (or one of her cronies) managed to get a refund on the plan from Apple and get their money back just after the Paypal claim period ended.

I wouldn't have know had I not been checking on another plan and noticed that my Macbook's plan was gone. Apple did not call me or notify me in ANY way. When I called to check it out they told me that someone provided them a copy of the serial and receipt and they refunded the plan. All I ever got was a code. The seller proceeded to tell me they sold it on consignment and I could go **** myself.

So they sold you the code and then proceeded to ask for a refund on what they had sold you? Wow. That is unreal. Sorry to hear what happened to you. Can you get refunds from Apple on AppleCare?

I can't, but that scumbag seller did. Paypal & Ebay both told me "tough luck." I was a few weeks or so past the period where you can file a claim to get your money back from Paypal. They refused to get involved.

Apple told me tough luck and offered to sell me a new plan at full price. They do not honor Ebay/Paypal transaction receipts so I was SOL.

I filed a complaint with some Internet fraud place, but that does nothing.

I have about 4 months left in my 1 year warranty and I'll either buy Applecare from Amazon or LAcomputers and get a box & receipt. I'm not paying full price, especially after losing $120 already.

After reading this thread for a few weeks now, I ended up finding a seller on eBay with great feedback who had only one Applecare in box. I ended up buying it for my MBP for $125; much cheaper than any of the code sellers. He emailed me the code for enrollment upon payment and sent me the box with the serial number and enrollment card by mail.

My advice is to wait for a sealed box at a good price; it does happen time to time.

!!!Just a warning!!!

I recently bought AppleCare for my iMac on Ebay. The seller did NOT send me the original Apple box for the contract.

6 days AFTER the PayPal protection for the auction expired - I received an email from Apple telling me that the Registration Number that I bought is null and void.
Unless, I also submit the serial number from the box or a paper receipt from an authorized reseller (see attachment in German).

The seller did not answer any of my email requests that I wrote.

Conclusion: Do not buy AppleCare on Ebay unless you also receive the Box...

Which is why you are suppose to use paypal. And I would not buy apple care from someone who has less then 500 feed back.

This really sucks, i was considering by applecare of ebay aswell, (cheaper)
signature_apple-12.jpg
but this has showed me not to. Has anyone contact ebay or apple? On this matter.

I had called Apple twice on this. I explained that I had bought it on Ebay, had no box but just an Ebay receipt. Both times the customer care person has insisted that this is fine and the computer is covered. Not much else I can do.

I talked to several Apple employees about buying AC online. It is up to the genius/store manager to ask for verification (box, receipt..) sometimes on repairs. Apple sells the AC SEALED. The sellers on bay DO NOT, well the ones that sell "AppleCare" for $160 don't.

So they sold you the code and then proceeded to ask for a refund on what they had sold you? Wow. That is unreal. Sorry to hear what happened to you. Can you get refunds from Apple on AppleCare?

I guess you missed this link. FIRST RESULT when you type in "AppleCare Ebay" in google. http://reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-APPLECARE-APPLE-CARE-A-warning-to-buyers_W0QQugidZ10000000011731235

Absolutely true. Why wouldn't they have the box. Apple I think will pro rate the AC. I am unsure if they actually refund your money. I will ask Apple when i go in there and buy AC for $239 and get the sealed box with ALL THE legit contents inside the box, instead of downloading them..

I am curious too. Who has actually bought AppleCare from Ebay and been denied coverage?

There have been several people on here, and the guy I spoke with at Apple said he sees a few a month. It's too bad. I mean people who buy on Ebay have to have some sort of clue that they are buying some shady product. I mean i feel bad for people who try to be cheap and get burned, but like they say "If it is looks too good to be true...". Spend the extra $70 and get a legit copy. I mean people already shelled out how much on their Macs?

Alright guys I just came out f the apple store and spoke with a genius and their supervisor. It seems they're not aware of the scams. They were very interested to know the details so they'll be aware of it. They all told me since I bought my computers and ACD in July 2009 and the AppleCares a week after from eBay, I should be fine because I'm still covered and since I got the certificate right away from apple. However, they could still do refunds for the person if they had the box and it was an honest mistake that the AppleCare was accidently registered to a computer when it was meant for another computer. So it's not so clear cut. I will keep an lookout for my waranty. I bought from macman812 for mbp and for my sisters mbp and my ACD, I bought from different sellers who had that bing.com cash back status and they had over 600-800 feedbacks with nearly 100%. I will post their user names and the listing when I get to a computer as I am posting from my iPhone.

Good question: The seller is "bleedblak" and he is *still* selling Applecare like crazy.

Since I think this thread is particularly valuable if people post eBay sellers who appear shady...

I emailed bleedblak recently asking whether or not he would ship the box with AppleCare. I never did get a response. FYI, for what it's worth...

Needless to say, I didn't buy AppleCare from him/her.

OH, give me a day or so, and I will email 20 sellers that have AC. I emailed some dude that is from Japan, (he is a student in Japan, he has a picture of AC on his keyboard). He stated in his auction that the box is NOT needed for any warranty purposes.

I sent him a nice little informing message saying that Apple DOES INDEED need these boxes, and that the only way he is selling these dirt cheap is that they are hacked codes. I also let him know that a Paypal or Ebay print screen was NOT a valid receipt...

He never emailed me back, and that was 4 days ago. I also gave him the link to this thread.

It is funny because a few people at the Apple Store I went to today were also unaware of this as well!!

I will list the sellers, as I email them. I will also state if they responded or not.

If people want to go ahead and purchase from them, at least they have some info. I really hope some of these sellers check out this thread.
I am also starting to email them this link as well. Copy and Paste this!!http://reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-APPLECARE-APPLE-CARE-A-warning-to-buyers_W0QQugidZ10000000011731235

OK, I agree.

BUT...who had problems? That's my question! Who didn't have the services covered by Apple? One or two (in all posts of the thread)?

Again...I am not saying eBay is a safe way...just a curiosity about the thread.

Well you said you read the entire thread. Maybe you should answer the question. ;)

It's not worth it. Anyone who isn't an Apple authorised reseller or selling AppleCare with the box (and maybe the original receipt) appears shady.

Anyone who's listing AppleCare numerous times over long periods for low cost is even more shady.

The best thing to do is avoid buying AppleCare off ebay full stop, unless you are 100% sure the person is an authorised reseller. Apple can say your AppleCare is invalid in any other case since it's not an authorised purchase.

Yeah star-fish is right, we should avoid it completly no matter how cheap it appears to be

Will I be safe if the ebay seller provide a sealed box and a tax invoice?

According to http://images.apple.com/legal/applecare/docs/AppleCare_Protect_Plan_Asia_en.pdf page 3,

"Keep your Plan Confirmation document and the original sales receipt for your Covered Equipment and your Plan. Proof of purchase may be required if there is any question as to your product’s eligibility for Plan coverage."

This doesn't say that you need a sealed box but you require the original sales receipt. Didn't say the original sales receipt must be from apple. But the fact that the ebay seller gives me a tax invoice, this should mean it is a legitimate business as the definition of a valid tax invoice by Australia Tax Office:-
A valid tax invoice for taxable sales that total less than $1,000 must contain:
the words ‘tax invoice’ stated prominently

-the name of the supplier

-the ABN of the supplier

-the date of issue of the tax invoice

-a brief description of the goods or services sold

-the total price of the sales (including GST).

Now, is original sales receipt = tax invoice?

After reading this whole read, I just decided to get a friend with an education discount and buy it at the Apple store. $218 out the door with extra peace of mind :)

Which is why you are suppose to use paypal. And I would not buy apple care from someone who has less then 500 feed back.

If you re-read my post you will discover that I payed via PayPal. I still lost my money, because PayPal refused to cover the case.

The seller that I bought from had a history of over 10.000 transactions with ~99% positive feedback. Several people in the MacRumors forum had specifically recommended buying AppleCare from this seller.

The seller now seems to have terminated his account:
http://myworld.ebay.de/app.holdings
It was previously known as memorymate, but changed its name to app.holdings, while retaining full eBay status.

Make of this information what you like. I have lost my confidence that eBay is a suitable sales platform for this kind of goods.

Best way, i don't understand why anyone would risk getting it off there to save a few bucks. Happy to spend £1500 on a laptop then try to skimp on extended care. You can already get a discount if you buy from authorised resellers. Considering the cost of repairs to Apple equipment its worth it.

^ Exactly. Suck it up and buy it at retail/edu discount.

It's worth it alone for the peace of mind. If you can't afford it, work an extra shift to cover the additional costs.

Why Apple doesn´t ask for box serial number in registration?

It is so common to lose receipts and boxes after 6/12/24 months!
In my opinion if they accept the registration they would have to give service warranties for 2 more years.

Or they change the process of AppleCare´s registration to avoid frauds...

I also bought from memory mate. The Applecare is still valid and I have had repairs on my machine with it.

I have boxes for A LOT of things I have. I have the box for my Sega Genesis from 1991, box for my XBOX 360 from a few years ago, boxes from my routers, MBP, iPhone, HDDVD player XBOX 360 steering wheel (yes i have one :) ), my DSLR and lens... I also have receipts for just about everything that is of high dollar. I just keep them all together in a shoe box or envelope and keep them some where safe...

.....

what Apple has asked for is either the serial number from the box, or a receipt from an authorized reseller. Since you say you have the box, you should be fine. The tax invoice though, if it's not from a authorized reseller, then it probably wont help you much

You have it...but most of people don´t keep it.

It doesn´t make sense Apple asks about box/paper after 30 months (per example). It is not reasonable. If they are concerned about frauds then they should change the process of registration (I agree with iKlein). Nice surname!
:)

Whatever...I bought mine from Apple and I´m safe!

Doesn't it say on the box about keeping the box and contents for future reference, or something like that?
